The Golden Knights have now competed in the NHL for six complete seasons. With this has come 455 regular season games including at least eight against every other team in the league. I went through VGK’s history against every team to find the leading goal scorer, point scorer, and the players with the most points per game.
First though, here are some interesting facts from the research.
- Jonathan Marchessault is VGK’s leading goal scorer against more than half of the teams in the league (16 of 31)
- William Karlsson is the closest with eight
- Marchessault is alone in first place against 10 teams
- David Perron is in first or second in points per game against 12 different opponents
- William Carrier is second in goals against the Senators and Lightning
- Jack Eichel ranks 10th all-time in VGK goals, yet is the leader against Columbus
- Luca Sbisa is tied for most points per game against three different opponents (CGY, COL, DET)
- The most goals a player has scored against Tampa Bay is three. Five players have done it, five more are also tied for second with two
- The most points scored by one player against a single team is 28 by Jonathan Marchessault against San Jose, the most goals is 14 for William Karlsson against Anaheim
- Brandon Pirri, Brendan Leipsic, Cody Glass, Daniil Miromanov, Dylan Coghlan, Cody Eakin, Brayden Pachal, Daniel Carr, Brad Hunt, Byron Froese, Kaedan Korczak, Tomas Hyka… and of course, Vadim Shipachyov all appear on this list

As an aside it will be interesting to see if Eichel can close his current 30 point gap to get to a career point a game in the regular season. He currently stands at 446 points in 476 games. It does not really matter all that much to me because in fact I’d rather first and foremost he continue his excellent 200 ft. game vs. giving up goals against in other to pad his own point totals like Draisaitl and some other top scorers do. Cassidy had the vision to develop Eichel’s two way game, Jack bought in and they won the Cup together. Some may have questioned Eichel’s desire and ability to become a great two way center. I had no reason to.

In fact when Jack came over here just 20 points under a point a game I was the one to dwell on him closing the gap. When the rumor surfaced Cassidy met with him on Cape Cod right after he was hired and presented Bergeron as a model of what he’d like from Jack, that is when the light bulb went on in my head but even then I did not fully understand the genius of Bruce’s vision; use Eichel’s ability and apply it the the 200 ft. game in order to win the Cup they both wanted so badly. Credit Jack too. A smart guy and now he knows; back check, play great in your end to help make and now keep your team one of the best in the league. Worth a lot more than individual scoring titles.

Off topic, but did Howden just out himself? Apparently his IG account has gone private. Could mean nothing. Or it could be related to the Hockey Canada Juniors scandal and upcoming suspensions and doesnt want to deal with ?’s. Carter Hart also went private and he has long been rumored to be involved. Comtois’ name has also been out there, which could be why there is no PTO contract yet. League really needs to end this Cone of Silence and just announce the names.
