Our friends over at Fox 5 Vegas live streamed the entire press conference of the hiring of Gerard Gallant from this afternoon.
Here are some of the best quotes of the day.
“In the eight months of vetting we didn’t hear a negative word about Gerard.” -McPhee

“We’ll provide the players and Gerard will coach them. We won’t tell him how to coach and he won’t tell us how to find players.” -McPhee

“Going forward is going to be a lot of fun. We’re going to have a great hardworking team and the fans are going to be excited.” -Gallant

“It didn’t seem right. But they wanted to make a change, they have the right to do that. I was disappointed to leave those players” -Gallant

So Foley is the father, Gallant the boyfriend, and McPhee the daughter? That was classic. Much more interesting than simply asking how involved he was in the hiring process

Really proud moment for Sin Bin Nation It was like Foley was the proud father walking his daughter Ken down the aisle and giving him away to his groom the rest of the press. Or maybe Foley was the father McPhee the mother Gallant the older sister and Ken the daughter getting ready and the press conference was the prom. Whatever metaphor you want to run with something magical happened today. Is this Sin Bin’s talking bout pratice or we play to win the game moment?

One of the things I found the most interesting (aside from Ken’s epic question) was that the coach won’t have input player acquisition and the front office won’t have input in how Gallant coaches. Probably overstated but it didn’t sound very collaborative. Not sure I like that. Seems like the great organizations the GM and coach work hand in hand. Can’t imagine Greg Popovich saying he just coaches the players and Buford makes all personnel decisions without at least consulting him.

Felt to me like a way for McPhee to fire his coach without the blame coming down on him. He stuck around in Washington for 17 years for a reason. Plus, add in the fact that no one actually asked that question, he interjected and offered it up himself.
