Recap: The Stanley Cup champions were looking to stay undefeated in regulation on Thursday as the Winnipeg Jets came to town for a second meeting this season. Both teams had early power plays but couldn’t convert into the opening goal. Midway through the frame William Karlsson snapped the tie, scoring his fourth goal of 2023-24.
The scoring picked up in the middle period beginning with the Jets game-tying goal at the 6:17 mark. Vegas quickly responded less than a minute later on a four-minute power play. First Jonathan Marchessault scored to give his team the lead and Ivan Barbashev followed it up with a PP goal of his own. After 40 minutes the Stanley Cup champions led 3-1.
Winnipeg scored in the opening two minutes to get within one, but Marchessault regained the multiple-goal edge a few shifts later. The Jets had several quality chances down the stretch but Logan Thompson was outstanding in net. Late in the contest, Winnipeg emptied their net which Marchessault happened to notice. The Conn Smyth winner finished off his hat trick with an empty-net goal. The Golden Knights finished off the Jets 5-2.
The Golden Knights record improves to 10-0-1 defeating the Jets 5-2 at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas will prepare for a marquee matchup on Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche. Puck drop vs the Avalance is scheduled for 7 PM. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: VGK’s power play came through to take over a game that was fairly close beforehand. Defensively the Golden Knights were excellent at keeping the Jets away from the front of the goal which stymied their offense most of the night. Logan Thompson was excellent in goal and fired a sweet pass to record his first assist of his professional career. (Analysis by Ken)

R-R that is an interesting thought to put Dorofeyev on the PK, however Eichel’s modest +1 must reflect his line’s 5 on 5 goals against because PK goals against do not count minus, right? Eichel has been really solid on the PK I’m pretty sure. I predicted we’d see him on it more this season and voila! Personally it’s been very satisfying to see Cassidy turn Eichel into a top drawer two way center. So important to winning. More important imo than him getting 100 pts in a season. Actually I would not mind seeing him get that. I know he wants that but at least he’s now sold on the 200 ft. stuff coming first.

I see all these quotes great game what I saw Winnipeg was giving us a good game and I think they dominated part of the first and most of the second period. The third period we took over but by no means was it an easy victory. Somehow we find a way and now Colorado will be a big test Saturday. Once again our goaltending and defense was great which will keep us in most games, On offense were up and down I think with Roy out our 4th line has suffered and by shifting other players around were a little off. Hague and Whitecloud are missed but our D is deep enough where it hasn’t hurt us like missing Roy has.

I know you guys hate when I look to the future but the Anaheim game on Sunday will be very tough as well as that will be a third game in four nights scenario. Golden Knights fatigued against Montreal in this same scenario on Monday. Is Colorado or Los Angeles our biggest threat this year? Probably too early to count out the Oilers but they look like shit!!!
