VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 4 WINNIPEG JETS 2 (VGK 3-1)

Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to take a 3-1 series lead with a Game 4 win in Winnipeg. The Jets opened the scoring early into the first period but Vegas settled in and tied the game four minutes later. Brett Howden registered his first goal of the postseason tying the game at one.

Vegas’ offense really picked up in the middle frame. William Karlsson broke the tie with his third goal of the series and Ivan Barbashev extended Vegas’ lead less than a minute later. After 40 minutes the Golden Knights held a 3-1 advantage.

Winnipeg got within one early in the period with a power play goal. The Golden Knights fought off a late push from the Jets and sealed the game with an empty-net goal.

The Golden Knights take a commanding 3-1 defeating the Jets 4-2 in Game 4. VGK will have a chance to clinch the series on Thursday night from T-Mobile Arena. Puck drop for Game 5 is scheduled for 7 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: Early in the game the Jets got a breakaway chance, Mark Scheifele came in on Laurent Brossoit, and the goalie stoned him, then Scheifele went flying into the boards. It ended his night and it foreshadowed the rest of the game. VGK didn’t play the best game, but when they Jets had chances, Brossoit was there to shut them down (wacky power play goal aside), when VGK got chances, they buried them. It’s a 3-1 series lead with Scheifele, Morrissey, and Ehlers all out, the Golden Knights have one foot in the 2nd round. (Analysis by Ken)

Knights are 3/4 of the way to repeating what they did to the Jets in their other playoff series, namely losing game one and then sweeping. Very different circumstances as the first series was for the West championship and Winnipeg was the number seed and began the series i on home ice. Jets were a better team that year than this. Except for goaltending Vegas is a better team this year than season one, in my opinion at least.

Kudos to Brett Howden for netting his first postseason goals and Brossoit shows again he has earned the starting job.

Solid professional road win. The fourth game is usually the hardest one to win. Jets injuries are piling up and we all know what that’s like from last year. Ideally, it would be nice to wrap up the series as soon as possible and come away without any injuries, but the Jets are going to be loose on Thursday with nothing to lose. I suggested after last game that it could be a good time to get Adin Hill in there but I think I was clearly wrong about that as a Laurent Brossoit was good tonight.

  3. Pistol Pete

The Devils win both away to tie the series. I did not think they would be able to do that. Kraken are trying to avoid giving up a 2-0 lead twice in the series and go down 3-1. Good luck!

    • Pistol Pete

Kraken pulls through in OT tying their series with the mighty Avs and recording their first home win in franchise history in the postseason. Good for them.

My cardiologist is very pissed off. I have had to purchase an AED and keep it charged up nearby!

With the Jets missing key players, the VGK seemed to play down to the Jets level allowing chance after chance after chance after chance once again in the 3rd period. At times the VGK looked to be in panic mode as they would take control of the puck in their end and make a pass turn over directly to the Jets time and time again.

On defense the game plan was retreat retreat retreat retreat time and time again giving the Jets numerous high danger chances that were either turned away by Brossoit or blocked.

The VGK finally outlasted the Jets in this one, but the outcome wasn’t assured until Howden hit that empty netter. Credit Stone with a very smooth pass to Howden for the nail in the coffin empty netter.

Unfortunately I have a commitment that keeps me away from my STH seats in game 5. But, I am hoping we won’t have a game 6 or 7!

    • Rashaad

Richie Rich, I’m with you on that one. Let’s end this series as soon as possible. Stay healthy sir!

    • Pistol Pete

R-R no matter how many excuses you can muster for how bad Vegas played and their lucky breaks over the Jets injuries, it’s always an accomplishment to win games 3 and 4 on the road.

      • Rashaad

Pistol Pete, I like Richie Rich, but he is more of a glass half empty kind of guy then you and I who are glass half full people. I don’t think that the VGK are going to be able to have that 60 minute domination type game that he is looking for, especially in the playoffs. NHL is the greatest hockey league in the world end there are two professional teams on the ice giving their all. Every game is going to have ebbs and flows. Richie Rich is hard to impress but we are all on the same page and was thing the same thing in the end and that is wins.

Rr, keep that A-FIB machine close by…Thursday will be an all- out battle!

    This is Satan.

Two weeks ago Satan was concerned about what version of Mark Stone we would be getting. Speculation by some fans/wannabe doctors suggested that the captain not be part of our playoff journey. Captain Mark is 100% healthy and looks to be about 80% back to elite Mark Stone form. The more games he plays, the closer he will get to regaining 100% form. Fellow Golden Knights fans, how exciting is this? One of Mark Stone’s greatest gifts is how he makes players around him better and he has elevated Chandler Stephenson’s game. Satan does not want to speak anymore tonight and expects that a fellow fan will have some things to say about Wild Bill, who has been absolutely spectacular in this series.

    Satan has spoken.

Maple Leafs did to the Lightning what WPG was unable to do to Vegas, namely overcome a 4-1 third period deficit to win 5-4 in OT (did it in the first 4 minutes). Vegas was thus not the only team to relinquish a third period 4-1 lead so far.

  7. Caleb

A good indication of how healthy and deep this team is that the front office has built for this playoff run is that if William Carrier were to return to the lineup, it would be a difficult decision on choosing who to take out of the lineup. Nic Roy and Ivan Barbashev are both Swiss Army knives, in that they can play anywhere in the lineup and are fully capable of playing more minutes in the event that an injury occurred to any of our forwards on the top two lines.

    • Rob S.

It’s not a tough decision at all. Sit Kolesar, who is not a “Swiss Army” knife.

    Really think
    Stephenson-Eichel-Stone
    Misfits
    Roy 3C
    Howden 4C

is coming once Cassidy has determined Stone has logged enough ice time. Carrier a potential wildcard.

  9. Pistol Pete

Karlsson’s was for all intents and purposes a PP goal and the other PP was excellent. Good job on the power play this game.

WPG outshot Vegas 11-9 in the third period. Big deal. I’d outshoot the opposition too down in the third facing a 3-1 series deficit. Despite what the Whining Nellies may say the VGK played a good game and deserved to win.

YESSSSSSSS! 2 ON THE ROAD, ONE TO GO AT HOME!!
The game seemed about half as fast, with half the hits, as Saturday’s bruiser was. The Jets weren’t as willing to pound us, maybe not risking their OWN injuries. We’re one game from the next round, no time to let off the gas and let Jets back in……

  11. THE hockey GOD

anybody have experience using the VKD AC/HVAC company advertised above ?

99% of the VEGAS AC and auto shops are scamsters. They upsell you constantly for stuff you don’t need. They never show up on time. NEver give these clowns money until after the job is complete. A lot of rotten evil companies in VEGAS. Buyer beware. The devil roams freely in sin city.

ESPN is unwatchable, SN is the place to go to see real hockey announcers who know the game.

    • TS

Thg, have to agree with ESPN announcers. They should stick with baseball, let real experts handle hockey.

  12. Jailbird

A great win, solid effort, LB played great! Shove that whiteout up your exhaust pipes Jets! Howden played a great game. He’s gritty, tuff, not afraid of anything. Now, let’s not go back up north and end this series Thursday! I’m telling you, we have a TEAM built for the playoffs.

  13. knights fan in minny

back check fore check was working blue line 6 was good chands and howdy had nice games what can you say about LB getting the job done nice to have a couple of days off i would guess no practice today a light skate Wednesday rap this up thursday and get a couple more days off

all of these comments are great, seriously, however I have read this thread for a long time and I find it funny that the only people that you speak of in your commentary are those who score, for the most part. You do know that there are 22 players that dress every game, right? I may see the game different than all of you. I see a Defensive unit that works together very well, maybe the best in the league. I see a coach that gets the most out of his lineup in just about every circumstance. He gets them to compete better than their opponent, most of the time. I also see a group of goalies that really work well with each other. Zero drama, 100% support of each other. Sure they all want to play but the respect the coaches decision. This TEAM is really playing well since the AllStar break and it is quite amazing. If I were to call out anyone by name to give kudos, it would be Wild Bill. He is the best player on the ice, every single night, up to this point. It isn’t even close. Just my thoughts. You guys are great!!!

    • You obviously have a good feel for the game. The team wins individuals contribute it doesn’t work the other way around. You are correct about wild Bill he has really upped his performance a true 200 x 85 foot player night on night out. He and Smitty are a couple of warriors for sure.

  15. Pistol Pete

My goodness game 6 EDM-LAK is Saturday three days off! Why? Game 7 (if needed) is Monday putting game 1 round 2 on Wednesday at the earliest. That is potentially a long break for Vegas should they advance Thursday. Could be lots of time to practice the PP including everybody’s one-timer!

    • knights fan in minny

nothing wrong with some days off this time of year

    • PP – based on history a lengthy time off hasn’t been the best situation for the Knights. You would think it would be a plus but sure hasn’t turned out to be the case where they are concerned unfortunately. They appear to thrive on a grueling schedule. Whatever let’s finish off the jets for the fans at home.

On a separate note, I’d like to get your opinion of Barry Melrose on ESPN. Is it just me, or has he declined and his commentary diminished over the last few years? I find him to be rambling and repetitive about every game and every player. It comes across very poorly and quite sad when you see it. Hoping it’s not his health and or mind. Curious if you watch and observe the same thing.

    • knights fan in minny

i like barry i think it’s just his style he does bring a little humor to it all he does the same when he is doing the frozen four
