Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to remain unbeaten at home with a victory over the newly formed Utah Hockey Club. Utah struck first 12 minutes into the game to carry a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Again, Utah scored at the 12-minute mark to double their advantage. A few shifts later Pavel Dorofeyev cut Utah’s lead to 2-1. With one second left in the frame, Noah Hanifin evened the score with his first goal of the season.
Vegas took their first lead of the game early in the final period. William Karlsson picked up his second goal of the season giving VGK a 3-2 edge. Late in the period Utah tied the contest to send it to overtime. Brett Howden kept Vegas’ unbeaten at home streak alive with his sixth goal of the season in OT.
The Golden Knights record improves to 8-3-1, defeating Utah 4-3 in overtime. Vegas will next hit the ice on Wednesday night in Edmonton. Puck drop against the Oilers is scheduled for 5:30 PM. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: The Golden Knights controlled the puck for a lot of this game but they overpassed a bunch in the offensive zone which limited some of their scoring. Vegas has had a penchants for scoring in bunches, they did it again tonight and it looked like it would be enough to get them the win in regulation. Brett Howden went into hero mode in OT with one of the nicest individual goals we’ve seen in a long time. (Analysis by Ken)

3 takeaways from the game, presented by @dotvegasinc
1) Brett Howden!!! That was out of this world.
2) 4th line came to play. Against a team playing 11 forwards, VGK’s depth helped them overcome a lackluster game from the top-line.
3) Utah has been good off the rush and hitting… pic.twitter.com/dUioI3fSOa— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) November 3, 2024
VGK have scored 3 straight goals in 7 of the 8 home games this season.

4th line has been excellent tonight. Killing Utah under the red line.

My two least favorite players Howden & Kolesar are having great seasons……..
NAM
I was trying to remember, even before this game, who was the one that kept shitting on Howden all offseason. It was you. I never thought Howden was amazing, but always a decent bottom six player and the 5th center (#1 backup when injuries). He is defensively responsible, somewhat physical, decent skater, etc. Never understood why you were so against him. Regardless, players change for good or bad. He has stepped his game up and is proving to be one of the better wings on the team (that is unfortunate, but sadly the case). Good for him. I used to shit on Kolesar early on, called him stone hands etc. Then I excepted him as a responsible 4th liner in the cup year, after Deboer got canned and they stopped putting him on the 1st line. Now, I am liking his game this year. Finishing shots (!!!), physical enough, fighting (solid middle weight). Good for these two guys to improve their game.
larry
I agree wholeheartedly about the overpassing in the offensive zone….it was like the ghost of Stephenson had returned to the fortress…in full disclosure i thought Hertl should have taken the shot rather than passed to Doro but was obviously pleased with the direct bullet pass.
It was a gutty win by VGK..gotta give props to Utah for the way they defensed Eichel in overtime not giving him time or space to create…the same cant be said for Wild Bill who was flying all over the ice!!
Today was a perfect example of statistics being misleading as to how the game was played…VGK had a huge edge in shots on goal but I would be shocked if the statistics didnt show Utah with a wide edge in high danger chances…thankfully they were high and wide with those chances!!
ThG
⚔️over passing got two of four goals for VGK !!!⚔️⚔️⚔️
⚔️shots doesn’t mean “edge” in game, most where low quality,

I realized I was remiss in not mentioning something in my post…. A very big deal for the team going forward….a 7 plus million dollar player who had been invisible during the first 11 games awakened from his slumber to be a force all over the ice….defensively and particularly offensively…welcome to the 2024 season Noah Hanifin!!
ThG
just because he didn’t score a goal until last nite, doesn’t mean he was “invisible”
doh
⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️
Larry
I’m not basing it on scoring a goal. I was basing it on his lack of offensive forays into the offensive zone….. Or even breaking out of the defensive zone.
Richie-Rich
If you believe, like most of us, that Hanifan’s contract was for him to be an offensive weapon at 5-5, and 5-4, then yes, he has not been living up to contract expectations. Theodore is outshining him in that category. I think “invisible” can be a good thing. He’s +5 out there and has 1G 5A in 12 games for a .5ppg production. Overall, not too bad. So, not quite “invisible”.
Richie-Rich
I also believe the FO wins were like 18-2 after two periods. The VGK cleaned that up later in the game.
TS
Larry, Utah pretty much shut Eichel down offensively
.he was showing his frustration late in the game
. Onthe plus side: if teams focus so much on Eichel, it can open up our other scorers. Let them — we have many weapons!
Pistol Pete
Odd with all his scoring that Pav has never been interviewed at least that I have seen. I figure shy with his English or a speech impediment. Those are rare but having had one myself once upon a time I know they are out there.
ThG
⚔️ he was interviewed the other nite ⚔️
Anthony
I have spoken to Pav, and his English is quite good and he is pretty easy to understand. He’s a very nice guy, as well.
Pistol Pete
What a move by Howden coming in off the bench. With wingers depth in question heading into the season this has been a surprise with all lines producing. Reassuring to see Hertl’s even strength game peeking up…including PP 12 pts in 12 games.

Part of the analyst team for the Kings game on TNT, Rick Bowness made the point that looser defensive structures early in the season makes it tougher for the goaltenders. Think we have seen this with the VGK.
Richie-Rich
They are a bit more aggressive this season. The obvious drawback is that there will be more opportunities for opposing teams and this puts a lot more pressure on goaltending. And it shows on both Hill and Sam. They need to be better on the road.
JB
Good win. Howie is a warrior ! Was hurting bad on the bench, but came back out and played, then great goal to win it. Still undefeated at home!
TS
Kolesar means well when he drops his gloves, but i wish he’d take some BOXING lessons! Punching the other guy’s helmet is NOT gonna hurt him, but losing your OWN helmet sure is gonna hurt YOU!
Rashaad
TS, I think Kolesar is too valuable to be fighting and risking injury.
TS
Rashaad, it seems he has taken on the enforcer role since Reaves left, but Koley is no fighter
.You’re right in that Koley is too valuable to break his hand or worse. Wish he’s just stay out of those situations!
TS
A follower of Hague was @ practice and told me Hague was a fighter in the past,. Liked to get into it.
Wonder why he hasn’t shown that same penchant here in Vegas?? He’s a BIG body, could be a good check for opponents.
TS
Sometimes I watch the games and feel we are kinda soft
.Seems we get hit a lot, but do we return fire equally? If other teams think we’re soft, they play more aggresively and confidently against us
. Our quickness was our calling card in the early years, but not so much now. We NEED a way to intimidate other teams, esp with a CUP in the bag so early in our history. The Target is still there on our backs, still resentment about how the team came to be.
Richie-Rich
Hague is our toughest skater, but they are not going to use him as an enforcer being a defenseman. Kolesar simply has no pugilistic ability whatsoever. I am against returning cheap shot with cheap shots because it is wrong and can lead to multiple game suspensions.
Rashaad
I saw Kolesar in one of those rapid fire promotional interviews where he was asked a series of quick questions and one of them was, who are you afraid of and he replied Nic Hague. I really don’t think there is much use for fighting anymore anyways.
TS
Rashaad?, Sometimes, though, a statement must be made, esp when one of ours gets clocked w/o provocation
. We can’t let those physical teams run us over!
Alex
Hill is really bad

Alex,.The Positive in Hill:hisbig body can fill the net well, and he’s pretty good at laying on the puck! Hey, whatever it takes, right?? Come on, Alex, show a little support for our team, for crying out loud! There are dozens of other teams who would GLADLY trade places with us— and living in Vegas is AWESOME!

Objectively he is NOT having a good season…..SO FAR……
Frank
This is true. The stats on Hill are not good. Also…. he needs to stop giving up the first goal within the first few shots. I think UT had 2 goals on their first 8 shots. He calmed down after that… but man, it’s been a rough go – especially early in games for Hill. He is obviously not confident and fighting the puck early. Thank goodness our offense is currently picking up the slack…..
Larry
The game has to be actually watched to understand and see the types of goals being scored on Hill…there have been a few crazy redirects which he had no chance on…and the others have been snipes from prime scoring positions…goal scorers after all have talent and are paid to score from those advantageous spots on the ice…. It’s not like he has allowed soft goal after soft goal!

In the earlier days in Nv, the casinos were called “clubs”

Game 12 Analysis VGK 4, UHC 3 OT
Record 8-3-1, 17pts, +17 gf/ga
Pacific Division: 1st (2pts ahead of the LAK)
Western Conference: 2nd (3pts behind WPG)
League: 3rd (behind WPG & FLA)
Next game is Wednesday, 6 November in Edmonton
My first observation of Utah is that they are a very sound and solid hockey club. They are not a pushover team. With that said, the VGK peppered Ingram in period 1. The puck, however, failed to comply. The reason why this lead wasn’t 3 or 4 goals at the end of the period isn’t because of great Utah defense and goaltending. This was pure chance. Utah simply got lucky. They played a much better game afterwards pushing the game into OT with another unfortunate lapse in the 3rd period by the VGK.
In this game, the late period lapse ultimately did not matter as Howden’s terrific back hand game winning goal put an end to Utah’s hopes for a comeback win.
I am not sure why Kolesar is the designated enforcer on the ice. I get it, he’s likely the only one. Hague really isn’t an option as a defenseman. The lack of pugilistic ability is glaring!
I have to mention that the game towels given away at this game were top quality.
Our top line didn’t deliver much on offense in this game. I am still not convinced that Hertl is #2C and Karlsson #3C. Comments?
ThG
⚔️Hertl line is no. 3 line , only coach didn’t tell them⚔️⚔️⚔️

Um…I could be wrong, but isn’t RR a Repub Precinct Captain?
Richie-Rich
Indeed, TS, I am a trustee and on the Clark County Republican Party Central Committee, a precinct captain and volunteer for Erica Neely candidate for Assembly District 9. I have never voted for a Democrat, although I would have if I could in 1959! Regardless of who wins this year, I can think that we all agree that we hope that we don’t end up in a war and that somehow we have a better, safe and prosperous future. While I disagree with almost every Democrat platform plank, I just hope for a more united nation, with a world at peace.
TS
RR, absolutely!! Let this be the last of the Lles, misinformation, foreign influence, accusations of cheating and rigged!! This is Not normal in America, and I hope for a return of civility and truth in Politics.Foreign countries are as concerned about America as WE are
Rightly so
.but we can be better than this!! We ARE better than this, damn it! We are ALL Americans FIRST., before Party!
Emmanuel
He didnt need your vote in ‘59……
His dad rigged Illinois
Also we look back at the “Camelot” BS like some Golden Age
In truth he was VERY unpopular during his short term.
ThG
I didn’t mention RR, try to keep up
TS
Hey RR, is pugilistic a real word? I like the sound of it, whatever the case! Lol
Richie-Rich
pugilistic-
adjective
-Of or pertaining to pugillism.
In the manner of a pugilist.
Fighting with the fists.
TS
Rr, aha! I’m.glad that last one was there to clarify! ‘ in the manner of a pugilist’ has no clarity, only more confusion! Webster wants to baffle and confuse! Hope you get some sleep before Tuesday!
mcart
Great goal by Howden, who looks very confident this season.
notice how the 4th line with Schwindt on the wing looked great vs Calgary, and great again last night.
But in the LA game, with Brisson in that spot, the 4th line looked like shit.
Thus, the obvious and correct move by the FO to send Brisson back where he belongs, to the AHL.
You have to have aggressive physical forecheckers on that 4th line, and that is why they succeed when all 3 play that style.
JB
Kolly may not be a talented fighter, but he steps up when challenged. Sometimes that is enough. Big Hague can fight and probably will before long!
Tim
So fighting is cool that always makes me chuckle. It’s WWE #2 just to rile up the fans. I personally think it’s laughable. The ref’s stand bye watch them fight until it looks like it’s getting out of hand then they break it up. To me it’s as phony as wrestling and only embarrasses the sport in my opinion. To need a side attraction to draw fans doesn’t say much for the game of hockey only that it’s a minor sport that has to lower itself to be entertaining. Don’t get me wrong I’m enjoying the Knights this year with the scoring up it’s much more entertaining but that phony bull=shit is more of an insult to the game.
tampon tim
about as phony as your baseball fights, eh clown??
The hockey God
Tim, ty for confirming you are a pussy. Don Cherry just took you off his Christmas list for not being a true, bona fide North American hockey fan. You know the socialist, whiny cry baby Europeans banned fighting in hockey. True fans can appreciate a good fight, turning the momentum at key time in game. Maybe you’d like their game better ? Scoring is only one phase of the game, maybe you should expand your horizons and stop being so closed minded ? You probably think body checking should be banned too ? Tackling in football too? Change it to ice capades ? You like men in tights on skates ? Say no more.
TS
Tim, When one guy wisely takes a knee, refs stop it. Fights never get too ugly these days before they end. Fights USED to get ugly, for sure
” I went to a fight, and a Hockey game broke out!!” I never watched hockey back then, but started watching the VGK and presto– I’m HOOKED!!
Vic
Raise your hand if you KNEW Utah’s first shot would be a goal.
How dumb not to have a name picked out for the first year in Utah. It’s the Beehive state so the Bees, Wasps, Hornets, Killers, Stingers or the Swarm would work. People would already be blindly throwing lots more cash for all the crap they sell. Name will likely be something silly.
Gordie Howden is looking great.
Eichel has been great since day one, and is elite. Needs to brush up on the faceoffs and I would love to see him crash the net more with that speed and shot of his to create chances and rebounds. Perhaps he’s limiting his chances of getting hurt.
Tim
Vic What’s wrong with the Utah Hockey Club. In music One of the great groups kept the name simple. The Band

I liked the Cleveland Indians myself and so did most Native Americans.
I also liked beer in the supermarkets years back called ‘Beer’.
TS
Vic, it’s just too damn complicated anymore at the store! Ya gotta wade through a hundred brands and styles, sizes, calories and carbs just to find a NORMAL BEER! Ditto for coffee, esp at a Starbucks– i just want a hot cup of coffee, already!!
Jose
Good morning whiny bitches!!! You know which ones you are. You’ve been silent lately. I was told that you whine and cry like little bitches because it’s your way of showing passion and love for the team. I guess I’m going to call bullshit on that now as that is clearly not the case. Hang in there. There are ups and downs in every season and they will slump eventually. Your time to shine will come.
Anthony
Another thing I noticed while at this game was that Nabber made 3 or 4 great plays that helped prevent what would have been high danger chances by Utah. He may have saved a goal or two on his own.
TS
Mcnabb is our silent warrrior. He quietly goes about his business, and he does it very efficiently! There’s good reason why he’s still playing with the VGK, unlike so many others!
JB
Fighting has been a part of hockey since the beginning. Now, once ina while there IS a “staged” fight where a couple big guys want to challenge each other, so they agree before the puck drops then go at it. But most fights are the result of going 25 mph on skates, the collisions, the spear in the guts, the cross check up high. Hockey is a high speed train wreck and there will be and should be fights. I love it! Used to love and watch Revo!
ThG
TS
Well said, JB!
Larry
I watched rangers and the big bad bruins … I watched rangers and the broad street bullies of the flyers… I watched rangers and the islanders…nothing will ever convince me that those games and rivalries were not as good as hockey could get…my rangers rarely ultimately came out on top in those series but my goodness the excitement was unparalleled….todays game is unquestionably watered down as far as the physicality… due to acknowledged player safety aspects as well as free agency and fraternization during the off season…Cassidy has even said the team has big bodies… those bodies need to let their physical presence be known as it gives the more skilled players time and space.
TS
Larry, agreed!!!
