Recap: The Golden Knights welcomed the Utah Mammoth for Vegas’ third preseason game. The offense for both teams got going early in the game. Vegas’ Victor Olofsson opened the scoring, but the Mammoth scored twice in the final two minutes of the period to take a 2-1 edge into the locker room.
Utah took a two-goal lead late in the middle frame. After 40 minutes, the visitors led 3-1.
Jermey Lauzon and Mark Stone each scored in the 3rd period to tie Utah 3-3. Utah added one late to take the lead, but Tomas Hertl potted the equalizer with the goalie pulled.
Eichel shot one through traffic for the game-winner in OT.
Vegas will finish the preseason on Friday night against the San Jose Sharks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: VGK threw out essentially their full lineup and eventually they started to take over the game. The energy of these games is just so low. There’s only one of these left; we’re almost there. (Recap by Ken)

I take a lot of positives from tonight’s game. Ken is critical of Ryan Craig making big changes to the power-play, but I’m actually okay with it. I want to give Craig a chance to implement his own ideas. You can always go back to the old power-play if you have to. Trevor Connoly looks good. Braeden Bowman looks good. Howden looked good. Looks like Craig wants them to be more physical than last year and I’m cool with that. They played their “A” lineup and Utah did not. So we have to factor that in as well.

Honestly, even tho it was an entertaining game, the VGK put out almost the entire lineup from last season against the Utah Mammoth B team tonight. Mammoth were without all of the top 6: Keller, schmaltz, Trocheck, Lee, Guenther, Cooley. Utah had just a few 3rd and 4th liners, and prospects. Honestly not a great look for VGK.

Think Connelly looks like he belongs at this level, on this team, and deserves to not get stuck playing the game of waiver exempt for roster manipulation. His ceiling is so much higher than these other young guys looking for a spot and feel like he is ready enough to take a full spot.

Pete totally agree, its an extremely small sample size, but there have been perhaps a handful of players that have played for VGK over the years that possess the speed, ice-awareness and as importantly the stick-handling and ability to maintain the puck and create opportunities, Im really excited to see the product on the ice when the season starts on Tuesday!

Looks like Hill is in mid-season form. Last night showed Connelly appears ready to play in the NHL. Most of the second half of the game belonged to VGK, except for scoring. Power play looked like it still needs work, to inconsistent. VGK star players played like star players. Not perfect but for their first game together in a few months looked good.

I have not seen it announced but it’s being said Piiparinen is being put on the London Knights where he’ll be playing around other top D prospects. With his skating, stick handling and hockey intelligence I can see where the belief is he can develop his offensive game before moving up to Henderson. Already known as an unbelievably good defender for his age, it’s not a stretch to see him put up some points on the smaller faster NA ice. It may not take him long to catch up with Kmec.

Hill sure looked leaky….. but thats on par with his play for the last couple of seasons SMH. Good to see the turtle show up and put one in the back of the net. Wicked wrister by Eichel to end it. Hope he lets it fly more often this season.
