Recap: Alex Pietrangelo opened the scoring five minutes in against his former team. Pietrangelo roofed a nifty backhand for his 4th goal of the season. The Golden Knights killed off a late penalty to carry a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission.
St. Louis’ offense woke up in the middle frame. The Blues scored :39 in and twice later in the 2nd period. However, captain Mark Stone scored and made a great individual play to set up Michael Amadio for the game-tying goal.
Tied 3-3, both teams swapped power plays but neither could score the go-ahead goal. Eventually, St. Louis took the lead midway through the final period but Vegas were fortunate to pick up a late power play. With under two minutes remaining, Chandler Stephenson tied the game to force overtime and a shootout. The captain yet again came through for his team and finished the game in shootout.
The Golden Knights’ record improves to 24-11-1 defeating the Blues 5-4 in shootout. Vegas will take a break for Christmas and next hit the ice on Tuesday in Los Angeles. Puck Drop against the Kings is scheduled for 7:30 PM. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: Another wacky home game with the Blues. VGK looked pretty good in the 1st period and then followed it up with another dud in the 2nd. However, they were able to score a few times in the 2nd mainly because of the dominance of Mark Stone. The late 6-on-4 goal was a big one and then as always, Logan Thompson gets it done in shootout. Logan Thompson is too good at shootout. I don't know why other teams try.

Goalie pull FTW!!!
VGK instantly find the extra player, shoot it wide and put it back home on the other side.
1:35 to go and we're tied again.

This is the kind of win that good/great teams get. Stone is back……no need to say more.
Also-
When everybody is back and healthy, I think it’s time for Kolesar to be scratched in favor of Amadio, Kolesar’s goals and assists are pathetically low.
DMR
I would love to see Kolesar scratched for the remainder of the season! He does nothing but give away the puck and is basically a pure pylon with hands of concrete…don’t understand what the coaches see in him.

Guess you need glasses!!!!
THE hockey GOD
@john, there is another veteran player who is worse than Kolesar. And another not so veteran who has done nothing.
Pistol Pete
I like that idea. Amadio’s hands are far better than Kokesar’s.
Thought Dorofeyev was fine tonight. +/- 0 . He can score. Leschyshyn and Rondbjerg can not and they were each -1. Doro’s TOI was higher and he had a block and a D zone takeaway. He may end up less a defensive liability than Kessel. We’ll see what Cassidy thinks.
Pistol Pete
Doro did a back to back as well playing in Henderson yesterday. He seems to be getting stronger, strong enough for the NHL. We could really use another depth guy who can find the back of the net.
THE hockey GOD
no.94 also did a back to back
Pistol Pete
Yeah Pachal has looked real solid. See what Cassidy sees in him.

Yessssss baby!!! Big win! The captain is on fire! LT very good in SO again! Way to go boys!
Mark
Just pure guts. Petro’s smooth backhand is why he’s amazing, a talented guy. Stone is just so game, definitely the heart and soul of this team. 2 points, we are really hurting too. I’m proud of these guys !
SMH
Loved this post, and agreed with every word! In fact, all of the posts tonight have been great. There’s nothing like a come-from-behind OT/shootout victory to shut up the miserable boo-birds on this site. Just amazing that we have the best record in the Western Conference with 6 starters (1/3 of our team) out injured. Go Knights Go, and Happy Holidays to all (even the VGK haters)!
TS
VGK MOJO is back on track!! With key players out, the guys rose up to the challenge, played great hockey. The team came together under pressure last night, didn’t buckle. Stone IS the heart and pulse of the team…so grateful he’s not hurt. Cheers to ALL the guys.
(I bet Marchy and the other injured guys were cheering from their TV’s at home, as we ALL did! We ALL share love of Hockey..sports have that amazing ability of bringing fans together, no matter who they are. It’s the great equalizer! HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!

very entertaining game good win petro with a sweet backhander good to see a replacement step up amadio get healthy boys
THE hockey GOD
VGK puck luck continues, as Blues hit post several times. Too many softies, as goalie’s save % keeps going down. VGK held on to take another OT win.
Watched the Blues feed, boy their announcers make up so many excuses it’s pathetic to listen to them. Panger wasn’t on, he’s decent sometimes but talks too much.

merry christmas to all true vegas hockey fans

Amadio is the perfect example of why hockey is all about CHEMISTRY. His puck hounding, puck retrieval style of play just fits in well with 20 and 61, and he complements their skills and m.o. He now looks more like the guy who scored 11 goals last season, and got a new contract.
meanwhile Kessel is not fitting in, the chemistry is not there between him and the other top 6 forwards, and he is not a bottom six grinder. minus 12, the worst on the team by far.
great, exciting win, hopefully a springboard into better home game confidence.
Tim
For me I was most happy for the fans in the stands they deserved an exciting game after all the crap games they’ve witnessed. At home if we don’t like the game we can turn the channel but when your at the game you have to endure all those painful moments. It was a nice Christmas present for all Knights fans and beating L.A. and Anaheim before New Years would be a great way to end the year.

3 day break comes at a good time how many bodies will the squad get back
Walt
Offer the entire roster with the exception of Stone, Smith and Carrier for Bo Horvat. Any combination of VGK goalies, forwards, D men and HSK players will do. Try to avoid draft picks. Make the money work.
John W
Eichel and Theodore for Horvat? Somebody has had a little too much Christmas Cheer

a little to much xmas booze there wally

McGm made a comment they are getting 2nd opinion on Jacks injury. That doesn’t sound good?
