Recap: The Golden Knights were a bit sloppy in the 1st period conceding an early goal to Erik Karlsson and allowing multiple other dangerous chances. They rallied back to tie it up with a 4-on-1 break that Jack Eichel buried. The period ended tied at one.
In the 2nd the slop fest ramped up majorly as the Golden Knights allowed three straight to the Sharks. Vegas headed to the 3rd trailing 5-2 after a late power play goal from Reilly Smith.
Things didn’t really get cleaned up in the 3rd either way as both teams scored early on weird miscues. A wacky one off the back wall completed the touchdown for the Sharks to just VGK’s field goal.

That little jam play by Stone has been one of VGK's best avenues for success on the power play in practice. Happy to see it make its way on the (fake) game ice. Very repeatable.

It is pre-season with a new system no time to panic. Personally I like Phil Kessell I think he’ll have a good year. It was nice to see Stone back he just needs to get his legs. Cotter continues to play well should make the team. M<ost don't like the gold sweater but I think it's much better then the grey. It's still baseball season and my Guardians are on a roll so I'll leave you all and get back to baseball.

I like the away white sweaters and the red “retro” ones, the grey and vomit yellow are not that good. They should change the grey to solid black in my opinion and completely ditch the vomit yellow. There are some green sweaters floating around. They should never see the light of day.

I am only giving out 1 star for this game and it goes to Paul Cotter for 2 absolutely terrific bone crushing hits on Sharks players, sending each of them flying into the boards like a rag doll.
Other than that, this is still preseason, and nothing has changed at all in terms of my low expectations for the 6th Edition of the VGK. Nothing that I have seen in preseason has made the slightest impact. I still do not believe that the VGK will make the playoffs.
Of particular note was the 1st appearance of the Captain Mark Stone. He didn’t stand out and was hardly a factor at all. First game back, and on the positive side he didn’t get carried off of the ice on a stretcher. I don’t think he’s going to return to his regular production. I could be wrong, but with a back injury it is highly doubtful he can put up the kinds of numbers we are expecting out of him.
The defense was awful, really awful.

R-R more specifically I would not sell short the potential impact of Cassidy. Sounds like his defensive system is easy to implement and will not overly compromise offense. That may be the “rose-colored glasses “ view per my usual, but I’d rather view it positively than another way. Pretty sure I’ll prefer Cassidy over DeBoer but admittedly too early to really say.

Adin Hill sucks. I know, most of the goals he let in were out of his control, but 7 goals, really? Thompson should be the starter. He’s played 1.5 games and has only let in one goal. It’s clear he is our guy. On the other hand, Hutchinson should be in the AHL with Adin Hill. Brossoit hasn’t played yet, so that’s a bit concerning. BTW, the gold jerseys are hideous. The only thing I like about them is the Circa Sports logo at the top.
