Praise Be To Foley, Vegas Golden Knights Hockey Website

Recap:  The Golden Knights returned home after their short road trip for a Sunday night matchup with the San Jose Sharks. The visiting team took an early lead 0:29 into the game. San Jose fought off several Vegas chances to carry a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.

Vegas was awarded multiple power plays in the 2nd period. Jonathan Marchessault evened the score at five-on-five and Chandler Stephenson snapped the tie on a man-advantage. The Golden Knights’ two goals in were enough to hold a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of action.

Each team scored early in the period keeping it a one goal game. Brayden McNabb tallied his second goal of the season off a great feed from Jack Eichel. Five minutes later Marchessault gave Vegas a 4-2 lead with his second goal of the game and his 14th of the season. The Sharks fought back and scored two goals late to tie the game 4-4.

Jack Eichel had a good chance to end the game in overtime but San Jose’s goalie stopped the shot and forced a shootout. Vegas netted two and Jiri Patera stopped a pair to give the Golden Knights the win.

The Golden Knights record improves to 19-5-5 defeating the Sharks 4-3. Vegas will get back on the ice Tuesday night to host the Calgary Flames. Puck drop against the Flames is scheduled for 7 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: Not exactly VGK’s best game ever but when playing the lowly Sharks, it doesn’t take much to end up on the right end of the scoreboard. Eventually a few odd-man rushes and a number of power play came their way and they finished enough to have a decent lead. Even then though, they went back to coasting, and it almost cost them. VGK have become quite dominant in shootout though, which is nice. (Analysis by Ken)

VGK Playing A Lot Of Overtime Games

  1. Sorvino

Another two points in the bank.

Jiri Patera looked like an AHL goalie, which is what he is for now.

    • Pistol Pete

Sorvino can’t quite agree about Patera. After watching the game and seeing him 31/33 ahead of the third goal and considering the circumstances of especially the second goal and he was pretty effectively screened on the first and finally that he defended the OT and especially the SO I thought he pretty decent. Looking back on his two wins last season he’s done pretty damn well up to this point. So far he steps up given the chance and takes advantage of the better defending he gets at the VGK level. I assume Sean Burke deserves some credit for coaching him along up here.

  2. DeezNutz

It always feels good to kick the San Jose Sharts while they’re down. We also gave them a loser point that lowers their chances of winning the draft lottery. Too bad it cost us another D-man.

  3. Pistol Pete

Don’t think that was all Patera especially given the Korczak “assist” but maybe less of a struggle with LT in net. Patera’s numbers in Henderson this season have not been great. Give him credit though for the two SO saves plus the 35 in regulation.

    • Pistol Pete

Note I posted this before watching the game and responding the Sorvino above.

  4. Alex

Patera, like Thompson, is terrible…both minor leaguers…speaking of minor leagues, the 99 cent store gold Halloween helmets are super embarrassing

    • Richard Evans

Alex is so terrible he should be restricted to commenting on JV Girls High Schhol track.

      • ThG

he should wear a fork with a cork so he doesn’t poke his eyes out- Patera made some really good saves. Even the Sharks announcers said so. But he wouldn’t know this due to sirens from the POLE Lease, surrounding his tent behind the Strat.

      • Alex

I went to Legacy (which you out of town fake fans have no idea what or where that is) and the JV girls track team was terrible

    • Great that they won but their coasting near end that provided Sharks the opportunity to tie it up hopefully tells them the game is 60 minutes nothing less. OT should never have happened. One thing that Alex mentioned about the goal helmets unfortunately is true. The balance of the post was just being stupid and only posted for attention. Stop Alex you will do yourself a favor as well as everyone else. I know your capable.

    • knights fan in minny

you are a minor league piece of shit alex boy

  5. Pistol Pete

Continuing to hang in there w/o Theo.

  6. Pistol Pete

I am not normally superstitious but I have never been crazy about the gold helmets.

  7. Richie-Rich

Game 29 Analysis, VGK 5, SJS 4 OT
The #1 team in NHL faced off against the #32 place team in the league tonight, but you wouldn’t have been able to tell by this game. By almost every measure the Sharks are a broken team that is just beginning to figure out how to rebuild.
The VGK found itself on tired legs with its AHL goaltender, Jiri Patera, in net. Logan Thompson had just come off a big win against the Stars the night before.
A mere 29 seconds into the game the Sharks scored on a goal against Patera. The Knights would continue to look sluggish throughout the entire 1st period.
The Knights got there second wind in the 2nd period and looked to walk away with an easy and expected victory until the Sharks pulled off two goals to tie the game late in the 3rd period. Once again, the VGK was burned on a 6-5 with the opposing net empty.
OT was a snooze fest with neither 3 man line threatening to end it.
Patera, however, stood tall in the shootout and both Eichel and Marchy sealed the OT win for the Golden Knights. The Sharks come away with pretty much a meaningless point as they likely have no chance of making the playoffs this year.
The VGK come away with two huge points with their AHL goaltender in net and Hill, Martinez and Theodore on the mend.
    My 3 Stars:
*** goes to McNabb for a nifty goal
** goes to Stephenson for a goal and assist
*star goes to Marchy for 2 goals & the GWG in OT shootout

    • Pistol Pete

Beautiful pass by Eichel to set up the Nabber but what else is new?

    • Emmanuel

The Sharkies are coming around would not be surprised if they are out of the bottom 5 be years end (which is bad for them, next years draft looks kinda thin….).

  8. Our power play left much to be desired tonight…though the last one they finally set up shop and moved the puck very well even if it didnt lead to a goal…we played really well for the middle 10 minutes…constantly forechecking and keeping the puck in the offensive zone….until too much aggressiveness led to a 3on 2 which made it 4-3…i am seemingly in the minority tonight but i thought Patera had a really good game…the first goal his eyes were taken away…the second off korczaks skate…third goal point blank range…4th goal even further point blank range!!

  9. Jake

Vegas seemed mostly disinterested, distracted, and tired.

And won. The mark of a good team.

It is understandable and perhaps a reminder that such games are best kept as outliers in a long season.

    • JB

Absolutely Jack. I said yesterday there would be no emotion, just a will to win. No matter how. This type game is completely normal during the grind of a long season.

  10. JB

Mucked out the two points! Patera was good, no matter the above comments. Two goals not his fault and came up big in OT/SO. This game was never going to be easy, as I said yesterday. Give sharks credit for not quitting. Good two points, on we go!

    • Pistol Pete

Sharks were 8-7-1 coming in after that horrendous start including per the VGK announcers two back to back comebacks from four goal deficits. There is enough built-in parity in the NHL that you can pretty much never coast through a game even against bottom dwellers.

  11. ThG

As predicted yesterday the VGK faced the odds due to 1) coming off road trip 2) playing back to back 3) playing back up goalie who hasn’t played in awhile. Meanwhile for those who missed it

I want to know ! Every day someone from Biden , a Dem, makes a fool of themselves in public. What an embarrassment these clowns are. Socialist scumbags making a mockery of our government

So many Trump haters still likely believe the following hoaxes:

      – The Russian Collusion Hoax. Proven false. There was no collusion between Russia and anyone on the Trump Campaign before the 2016 election.

      – January 6th was an insurrection to overthrow the government (totally false)

      – Fake electors were illegal. (False, there were no fake electors, there were electors designated to serve in the event that Congress disallowed Biden electors. This is totally legal and has been done in the past).

      – Trump stored nuclear secrets at Mar-A-Lago (false)

      – Trump understating the value of his properties is true, or even if true is criminal (false, it is the bank providing the loan who is responsible to ensure that the property values justify the loan). In any case, these were private transactions and had no impact on public funds whatsoever.

Do you morons realize that the Georgia case has multiple counts that EACH carry a state MANDATORY 5 years in prison, and that state convictions are not eligible for federal pardon? If he is convicted of ANY of the Georgia counts, he goes to prison! Do you really think he will escape conviction in that case? He is going to prison, where he belongs.

NO DEAL, TRUMP! YOU ARE F-I-R-E-D!!!!!

      • TS

That is Your version of True and False. “Alternate set
of facts”, I believe was the term used by the WH. Aren’t you splitting hairs here?? Diluting the fact that the TRUMP MOB FAMILY was deeply immersed in FRAUD GRIFTING, FLEECING, SCREWING BANKS AND THE IRS, AND A MULTITUDE OF QUESTIONABLE, IF NOT OUTRIGHT ILLEGAL, ACTIVITIES FOR DECADES! Do you think Trump’s corruption STOPPED when he got to the WH?? Did he suddenly find Jesus? No. He has telegraphed his true intentions allll along. Remember in the debate of 20: he told the PROUD BOYS to ” stand back and stand by”..
And THEY DID, UNTIL THEY WERE ACTIVATED JAN 6 FOR TRUMP’S INSURRECTION. ” Be there jan. 6…it’ll be WILD”!Those are facts. Trump conspired, planned, then incited his ATTACK DOGS when he told them all on the ELYPSE Jan 6: ” you have to March to the Capitol and FIGHT! if you don’t FIGHT, we’ll.
        lose this country!!”…AND THEY DID.

Minny, I didn’t vote for Hillary. 1st potus election that I skipped. Ditto
with her cheating husband. I vote the Person in the General, not always Party. Get Haley past the Primary, and I have a potential vote for her.! But TRUMP cannot carry our his diabolical THREATS. It would turn this country of ours into a Civil War of American Hatred..
.just as we’ve seen here on Sinbin. Just as the entire country is Hateful and Divided NOW, but multipl ied by 10!

          • Richie-Rich

My posts on the issues have not been hateful. I have clearly laid out why I believe Trump is being mischaracterized. His accomplishments are well documented. His presidency was the first one that didn’t trigger a new war with American boots on the ground in many decades.

Nikki Haley? She’s just another political K Street owned politician who will only push us further toward World War III.

There are 536 politicians. 1 President, 100 Senators, and 435 members of the House of Representatives. The large majority of them are owned by the K Street Lobby. Trump isn’t one of them. There are only a handful who try to stand up and represent the people instead of the Military Industrial Complex, Big Pharma, Big Energy, and Big Tech.

I’ve addressed this and stressed the importance of getting rid of “Establishment” Democrats and Republicans. Yet, so many are stuck in the disinformation that Democrats are good and Republicans are bad.

It’s so very much more complicated than that.

Every single President since World War II, with the exception of JFK and Trump, dragged America into wars around the planet.

I urge everyone to take some time to reflect about what you are being fed, and what your own beliefs are. The only way to break the cycle is to vote for anti-establishment candidates.

If you are not for Trump, then I would urge everyone to take a look at RFK Jr., who I believe would be better than Nikki Haley.

  12. TS

HILLY, WE NEED YOU!! GET WELL ASAP!! Other than that, decent game.
The boys did what they had to to WIN. Almost blew it, but it worked out in the end.

  13. ThG

you can bet your life on these predictions !

    One month ago.

  14. ThG

no 6 Korczak got hurt in OT, if he goes down that is another big hit for the D men as VGK doesn’t have much depth on back line right now.

Cormier appears to be out, they’d have to call up someone like
Bischoff who, let’s face it, although he wears the C is limited in NHL experience.

  15. ThG

    adeste fideles

for those who like to sing along, follow the bouncing ball, MItch Miller style

    Et nos ovanti gradu festinemus;

LOS ANGELES — Baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani signed a record-shattering $700 million contract today with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which will net him about 58 bucks after taxes.

“I am very happy to have signed the largest baseball contract of all time,” said Ohtani through an interpreter. “I am thankful the Dodgers believe I am worth $700 million, which I am told after taxes will allow me to purchase two full-size sandwiches from Jimmy John’s. I am hoping to finally try the Italian Night Club.”

Considered by some to be the most talented baseball player in history, Ohtani will earn $70 million each year for the next ten years. “After taxes, it comes out to about six bucks per year, so Ohtani may have to wait a couple years if he really wants to spring for a full-size sandwich,” said commentator Bob Costas. “Now, if he wants to go for one of the ‘Little John’ sandwiches, that may be in range right away. On the other hand, if we’re adding ‘Jimmy Chips’ and a drink, we’re talking three years in at best.”

While some have questioned the Dodgers committing such an incredible amount of money to one player, the front office has said the decision was a no-brainer. “Shohei Ohtani is truly a generational talent,” explained Dodgers’ controlling owner Mark Walter. “$700 million is an astronomical figure, but we were committed to paying Ohtani enough that post-tax he could one day enjoy a Jimmy Pickle. It’s been his dream since childhood, and today is a dream come true.”

At publishing time, Ohtani had found himself homeless after California had announced a one-hundred-percent tax on anyone making more than $10 million per year.

  21. JB

Attention … this just in … the Vegas Knights are a friggin good team/organization! Even with key players out, including THE top goalie in the league, they just prevail. If we are completely healthy come playoffs, we DO have an excellent chance to repeat. I’m not afraid to say it!

    • Pistol Pete

Given his point a game, Jack Eichel is very possibly the most complete center in the league in terms of all three zones and special teams.

      • Emmanuel

The Hockey News ran “possible projected rosters” for a 4 team tournament (theyre not letting the Big Red Machine & the Czechs play). Eichel was listed as the 4 line C for the US. No love for Eichel……

      • Sorvino

        Selke Trophy coming for Eichel?

  22. vgk21

yes, the game was not a Picasso, more a paint by numbers effort.

it was also expected and understandable that the VGK were tired and jet lagged, while SJ was rested, on a hot streak, and waiting in town for the game.

so, a win is a win…..and the numbers are 43, as in points in the standings.

they were 51-22-9 last season for 111 points.

I predict that they will go 52-20-10 this season for 114 pts

  23. Pistol Pete

Nice to have this asset (Dorofeyev) waiting in the wings, being scratched for a player (Cotter) who has a two years longer entry level contract requiring management to play him hoping he can prove himself a viable top nine forward. Obviously a top nine $775k contract through 2025-26 is a potentially valuable asset and worth playing the player full-time on the roster in order to validate it.

Dorofeyev since the post-All Star break:

    9 G/6 A (+8) 15 pts/28 games = .54 pts/game

Very good rookie stretch and he comes in from a ten game layoff and scores.

  24. Sorvino

Brayden Pachal going to get opportunity.

Kaeden Korczak down. Next man up.
