VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 6 PITTSBURGH PENGUINS 2 (30-22-14, 74 PTS)

Recap:  The Golden Knights were looking to snap their three-game losing streak with a victory at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Colton Sissons opened the scoring for Vegas, recording his fifth goal of the season.

After killing off a penalty to start the second frame, Pavel Dorofeyev doubled Vegas’ lead with his 31st goal of the season. The Penguins cut the Golden Knights lead around the midway point of the period. However, Mitch Marner regained VGK’s two-goal lead with an acrobatic play for his 19th tally of 2025-26. Late in the frame the road team scored, but Vegas held a 3-2 lead going into the final intermission.

Dorofeyev added his second goal of the game quickly into the final frame to give Vegas a 4-2 advantage. Less than two minutes later Jack Eichel scored his 24th goal of the season, stretching VGK’s lead to 5-2. Brayden McNabb added an empty net goal to end the contest.

The Golden Knights record improves to 30-22-14 defeating the Penguins 6-2 at T-Mobile Arena. Next, Vegas will host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. Puck drop against the Blackhawks is scheduled for 7 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: The Golden Knights had a chance to make amends for a miserable game in Pittsburgh with a rematch against the wounded Penguins. With Mark Stone back in the lineup, VGK did exactly what you’d hope by breaking out of their scoring funk to touch up Silovs for five on the first 15 shots. The newly formed Marner, Hertl, Dorofeyev line had a field day in transition. Much much much needed win to begin a suddenly crucial homestand. (Analysis by Ken)

Was that get the puck to the net “greasy” enough for everybody? The Marner one was about as per se greasy as they get.

Ducks and Oilers lose thank you Leafs and Stars.

    • TS

PP, It was as good a shot as his Olympic magic! Marner is dancing with the Hockey stars!! WOW!

  2. Wonders never cease – now let’s do it again Saturday evening for fun.

    • Pistol Pete

      Wonders never cease? Reallly?

      Let’s see:

      Three guys over a point/game
      Two @ .82
      One @ .71
      A D-man @ .57
A rookie doing over a half a point

I guess wonders never cease so to speak,

Fans can get so caught up in the bad streaks they forget the good ones. Apparently.

      • Three guys over a point per game obviously hasn’t transferred to the team winning so your logic is a little off. They have had 36 losses in one way or another and 30 wins – yes they gor 1 point on 14 of those losses but they did not win. Teams win hockey games and players contribute – like the Cup team of which Hill was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time – that was no acceptable excuse for the contract the Knights are living with now where Hill is concerned. I know you have the miss guided idea that McCrimmon walks on water but he has done since they won the Cup is dismantled this team. The results speak for themselves and there is no way you can prove that statement wrong. Being the student of the game, I am sure you noticed the Panther back-to-back Cup performance with essentially the same team in place – unfortunately Vegas never had that chance because of the FO antics.

big night for Score-ofeyev and Marner.

the shooters finally woke up and realized the fact that they must put the puck upstairs to score in the NHL. they got a bunch that way.

only had 17 shots, but got 6 goals.

a must and expected win, must be followed by a similar result vs Chicago, who beat them this season already. keep it going.

and the 3rd line actually scored a nice goal from Bowman to Sissons to open the game.

  4. JB

Gordy Howe hat trick for Dorfy! Hill great in net, neither goal his fault. Now, let’s GO!

    • TS

Hill looked good tonite! Great to see the big win with him in net.
      We needed that one!

Almost two weeks ago I checked in with KM re: Connelly pushing a point a game. Following his two goals against the Road Runners he got back to me:

“An exciting player with tremendous upside, he was fantastic again last night.
As you say, a little more size and strength and we have a heckuva player.”

This reminds me of the conversations I had with him years ago on Pav when he was similarly bullish.

He also got right back to me on the Lindbom/Lundqvist comparison I have been promoting indicating they have had the same conversation and noting the players “positive attributes”.

IMO VGK scouting has been excellent from the beginning as good as any including the Jim Nix organization. Look no further than the undrafted Braeden Bowman. Sure the Stars have a couple more first rounders Johnston, Bourque and of course Hintz going further back but then look at the big name veteran talent McCrimmon has traded picks for vs. Nix and his predecessors just one in Rantanen and with Connelly we may finally have a first round impact player. McCrimmon one Cup, Nix zero.

    • Pistol Pete

      Correction:

Hintz was #49 not first round. Excellent scouting and pre-Jim Nix.

      • Pistol Pete

Fine Jim Nill not Nix my bad. Anyways my claim holds: no Cup as GM. KM has one Nill has zilch (nil).

        • Pistol Pete

My bad again Hintz not pre-Nill. Yup very good scouting in the Nill organization emanating from the scouting role he played in Detroit. Despite the multi-year accolades the guy can’t seem to put it all together a win a Cup unlike the VGK GM. He is very good no doubt about it it’s just that as a VGK fan I see no point I elevating another team’s GM over mine especially when mine won the Cup. As a fan you try to recognize the strengths and good work of the GM’s of your competitors and hope your own GM can add those qualities.

You don’t even know what the fuck you are talking about, but you keep talking none the less.Blah blah blah blah blah

  6. Pistol Pete

I predicted this would be the first year of a Pav fight and it came as a Gordie Howe hat trick. Dropped his gloves and took a few swings at the 6’5” 240 lb. former Golden Knight Anthony Mantha. Good job my man.

Oh btw with respect to how good the VGK scouting has been since Day One Pav was a #79. First Knight with back to back 30 goal seasons. Guess this GM had no clue when it comes to building an organization that knows how to scout. Yeah right.

  7. knights fan in minny

How about that woodshed Timmy We don’t need to hear from you anymore

  8. NAM

It was refreshing to see a good game from the knights. I don’t think PIT is a legit playoff team right now with their limited crew, but regardless VGK had a level of dominance or at least engagement in the game. People were doing their jobs and it was a good effort. I think this is two games in a row they have been respectable. DAL murdered EDM last night. Watching that game, last night, its not hard to see that VGK really did have a good game against DAL despite the loss. It’s do or die, so I hope this is continuing trend and not a one off.

  9. Richie-Rich

Game 66 Analysis VGK 6, PIT (wounded) 2
Emphasis by Ken on wounded Penguins…..

    Stone back, winning back!
Hill gets a 3rd straight start, maybe that is the formula?

These lines are set. Don’t mess with them again.

How many shots on goal did we have?
17 total and 0/2 on the power play

    Penalties?
12 minutes – too much, over a half a periods worth of short handedness

Not a recipe for success, but good enough against a wounded opponent.

    Post Season Scrub
    1. Ducks are in 1st place with a 1pt lead and a game in hand
    2. VGK leads EDM by 2pts, both teams have 16 games remaining
    3. Anyone of the teams above can win the Pacific at this point.
    4. The Sharks are in 4th place with 68pts but have 3 games in hand, don’t count them out of the mix.

    Remaining Schedule:
    14 Mar(H) CHI
    17 Mar(H) BUF
    19 Mar(H) UTA
    21 Mar(A) NSH
    22 Mar(A) DAL
    24 Mar(A) WPG
    26 Mar(H) EDM
    28 Mar(H) WSH
    30 Mar(H) VAN
    02 Apr(H) CGY
    04 Apr(A) EDM
    07 Apr(A) VAN
    09 Apr(A) SEA
    11 Apr(A) COL
    13 Apr(H) WPG
    15 Apr(H) SEA

Every divisional game is going to be important. An 8-8 finish gets the team to 90pts, and we have no idea whether or not that number gets them into the playoffs or not. The Pacific Division is simply unpredictable at this point. In my opinion, you ride Hill as far as he can take us. There are no back-to-backs.

    • KnightWatch

Schmid gets at least 1. There is 1 b2b. 21st,22nd
I think Cassidy has him in at least a couple.

  10. NAM

If the season ended today Utah and the SJ would be in the playoffs. That seems crazy to me. The young super talent on SJ is dragging them along. Two crazy highlight goals last night.

    • KnightWatch

Yes. Eklunds highlight and the Celebrini ping pong goal was nice.
Nedeljkovic is net has been on good lil run.

    (Continued from above)

    Fan Perspective Summary:

Criticism of McCrimmon: A fan could argue that his aggressive trading has depleted the prospect pool and created a “mercenary” culture that lacks long-term stability.

Defense of McCrimmon: The primary goal is winning the Cup, which he achieved faster than any expansion GM in history.

Assertion of Nill: Nill’s ability to balance elite drafting with strategic trades (like Rantanen) has made Dallas the model for “sustainable excellence” in the 2020s.
    ————————
Notably McCrimmon has been successful at building parts of his core from within including Hague and Whitecloud on the Cup roster.

    Dorofeyev and Bowman.

    Connelly and Lindbom pending.

  12. knights fan in minny

dorfy Was solid all night Strong on the puck Strong on the boards plus a couple of lamplighters and a couple of licks in on Mantha the Meathead We could sure use a better 3rd line center right now scissors belongs on the 4th line center I would like to see Bowman add about 10 more points to his point total by the end of the season he has the capability

  13. rb7

    forecheck, backcheck, reality check

they beat a decimated team missing their 2 stars. like playing Edm wirhout McHotshot and the Drycleaners

simply not any turning point until and unless it is followed up by NUMEROUS similar results vs all comers.

  14. Pistol Pete

Yup that was a pretty good game they played but it never does any good to talk about it. Talking about how a game goes never changes what happens in the next one because nothing we can ever talk about will ever impact the players, coaching staff or the FO and whether the team wins or loses games.

We can though keep an eye on the roster and hope opportunities to improve it present themselves. There is exactly two prospects who are likely to
make the roster next season. So that will be exciting and a good reason to follow them in Henderson as their season run down.

Sure would be sweet to go on a run. Lord knows we’ve earned it. Go Knights Go!
