Recap: The Golden Knights and LA Kings faced off in Salt Lake City for the return of the Frozen Fury. LA got off to a quick start when newcomer Kevin Fiala backhanded a puck by Logan Thompson 1:52 into the game. Minutes later the Kings doubled their lead sneaking one past the Golden Knights goaltender. Reilly Smith got Vegas within one scoring 16:36 into the opening 20 minutes.
Vegas tied the game 2-2 on a laser from defenseman Brayden McNabb 5:14 into the 2nd period. Chandler Stephenson, Brayden McNabb and Jonathan Marchessault were all credited with 2nd period goals to give the Golden Knights a 4-2 advantage.
The Kings were able to trim the Golden Knights lead but Smith sealed the deal with a 3rd period PP goal. A late empty-netter was added by Alex Pietrangelo. Vegas left Salt Lake City with a 6-4 victory.
The Golden Knights prepare for their final preseason game Saturday against the Arizona Coyotes. The two teams will meet up in Idaho for their preseason finales. Vegas will begin the opening season in LA on Tuesday night. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: The Golden Knights slept through the 1st period but they really got it going in the 2nd. A weird play helped flip the score from 3-3 to 4-2 in favor of VGK which ended up being the difference in the game. VGK still have a ways to go before the regular season, which is not a ways away. Have a feeling Cassidy had some harsh words for them in between periods. VGK look much more interested this period. Winning races, dominating stick battles, buttoned up in the NZ. So much better.

The actual score of this game was 5-5, but okay…….
Too many defensive breakdowns. If the zone defense is supposed to make it harder for opponents to penetrate – it didn’t work too well this evening.
I’m not handing out any stars to anyone for tonight’s game.
I will give 1 star to the Ref who blew the call in the 2nd period giving the VGK a two goal lead. It was very obvious from the refs angle that the puck had crossed the line. Get that ref a pair of glasses.
Can’t wait for the season to start. Preseason hasn’t really impressed me much at all.

I didn’t see at so much as “defensive breakdowns”, but more so as the goalie, that some on this forum ^^^^^^ anointed as starting goalie as well as the second coming of MAF, let in a number of VERY SOFT goals.
IF that was RL in their instead of LT the haters would be shouting from the rafters !!
The first goal was a “dinky rink” goal bouncing of stanchion that likely wouldn’t have happened in real NHL rink in which the rink constructors know how to put together a rink. So someway saying the Real score was 5 -5, could easily have said the real score should have been 5-4 because the first goal doesn’t happen in real NHL rink 99% of time.
The LAK “home” game was dominated by VGK fans in the stands. I like those anti Biden TV commercials that they play on channel 13, and the ones hitting that cop hater Cortez. Beeeeautiful, Can’t wait for election to be over so all the lying and silly abortion ads are over. Half those women on those ads are completely undoable, the other half are too old to have one, and then you have guys on their that really don’t give a carp. They can’t talk about their train wreck of record so they try to killing babies an issue. WTF? Who do you think they are kidding ?

The game ended up giving me more hope in this team than the first period took away from me, however the break down in defense and Eichel’s complete in ability to play a critical defensive role is scary. The second goal Eichel stood there, with his thumb up his ass, watching the puck while Korczak was defending the guy trying to wrap around. Mean while, and again while Eichel literally is facing Thompson watching, not moving, not looking to defend at all, his guy goes undefended, collects the pass, and scores. No matter what kind of beast Eichel is on offense, if he can’t *contribute* to the defense, with the minutes he plays, he will never see a playoff. You see how much talent he has. The ability is absolutely there, so why no desire to learn and play defense in all his years? Baffling to the mind.
The power play while still green, looks a lot better than Peter’s. The chances are there and not just from the point like before. Puck movement is giving them opportunity and much better looks.
The refs couldn’t reverse that bad non-goal call, because of no replay ability. It’s preseason in a non-hockey basketball arena, what do you do. What I was more curious about was the Vegas goal immediately after. I swear that play was offsides and Karl thought so too. So it was a double shit show in my opinion. Preseason, who cares.
Petra still trying to do too much and blundering. He is a talented guy, but the KISS principal is beneath him I guess.
Howden on the Stone line. Pretty interesting experiment so far. That flipped a switch. Marchy and Karl on the 3rd, seems like a head scratcher, but we’ll see. Can they get Smith down there? LOL

81 needed the demotion to wake his ass up. He has been loafing this preseason up until last night in period 2 and 3, after being put back with Karlsson, he finally started to get the message.
Eichel has been doing a good job offensively, he has been backchecking on rushes, but yes, Blitz, he is not doing enough on his front net coverage in the d zone. some of that is attributable to the change in system this year from man to man coverage to zone coverage. and some of it is just plainly a remnant of the poor system he was lost in for years in Buffalo before Granato took over.
LT had a rough first couple goals, but he battled back and won the game, and looked good in the shootout. and as Grant Fuhr would say, “hey, we won and that is all that matters” ….. remember he used to win 6-5 and 5-4 quite often in the Oiler Gretzky Messier high scoring heydays.
Blitz
Eichel has had a couple of nice back checks on guys breaking out for sure the last couple of games. His make up speed is impressive, his stand around the net and not defend, not so much. I said it a couple of weeks ago. If he can embrace Cassidy’s scheme and play his part, embrace his defensive role, he has a legit chance to shed some of the crap he’s carrying from Buffalo. I would like to see him do it. I think he can do it. But will he do it? Let’s hope.
I thought LT was fine, serviceable, and even good at times last night. The whole team looked like garbage the first two goals and to be honest that was a pretty sick back-hand top shelf blocker-side corner shot by Fiala. Fiala is a great pickup by LA.

While I appreciate the passion, understand that it is PREseason. Those whose roster spots are guaranteed it is about feeling the game again and NOT getting injured.
For the rest whose spots are not secure, it is about impressing the coaches and other teams scouts that are in the stands…. relax, it is only preseason.
