Recap: The Golden Knights hosted the Colorado Avalanche for their penultimate game of the preseason. Midway through the opening frame the visiting Avalanche took a 1-0 lead scoring on Vegas backup Ilya Samsonov. After the opening 20 minutes the Golden Knights trailed by one.
Vegas couldn’t find any rhythm early in the 2nd period. Colorado doubled their edge seven minutes into the middle frame, but Jack Eichel cut the score in half on a late VGK power play opportunity. The star center recorded his first goal of the preseason with under two minutes remaining in the period.
Trailing by one, the Golden Knights were awarded a 3rd period power play, but the home team couldn’t convert and even the score. The Avalanche doubled their lead late with an empty net goal. Colorado secure the final preseason game of the 2024-25 season 3-1.
The Golden Knights record in the preseason was 3-2-0 as they now prepare for the final preseason game on Saturday. The Sharks visit T-Mobile Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7 PM. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: It was a bit of a slop fest for the majority of the game until about midway through the 3rd period when the Golden Knights decided it would be fun to tie it. They didn’t, but that’s okay because in the end, the real key to the game was how the newly formed power play units looked, and it was pretty good. (Recap by Ken)

3 takeaways from the game, presented by @dotvegasinc
1) First look at the power play units was solid. Expecting marked improvement this year.
2) Jack Eichel’s shot is lethal. They are going to need every ounce of offense they can get from him this year, he needs to shoot the… pic.twitter.com/2MFTxmKtZ6— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) October 4, 2024
It's preseason, so it's hard to truly believe in any trends, but 1st periods have not been good for VGK. Snap out of it on 10/9 and it doesn't matter.

I enjoy Tomas Hertl's red stick. It's nice with the gold jersey.

Preseason….

VGK play away from their own puck carrier was horrible for most of the game.
Bring back the B team !!!
Jim
I agree. bring back the jr varsity from Tuesday night. They hustled a lot more than these regulars did.
btw, what a stupid move by Vgk to schedule a home exhibition game vs the same opponent they have to play to open the season next Wed. should of played Anaheim.

Going back to last week when Eichel made the top 50, I hope the guys who do the rankings for these multiple organizations are aware of the fact that he was not only the best player on a Cup winning roster (total points and best two way forward) but is also currently ranked #18 in active players points a game (500 game minimum). He damn well better have made the top 50. Eichel has a history of not getting enough recognition for the player he is.
