VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 7 COLORADO AVALANCHE 0 (11-0-1, 23 PTS)

Recap: The Stanley Cup champions hosted the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday looking to stay undefeated in regulation. Vegas was awarded two early power plays  but couldn’t find the net on eight shots on net. Later in the frame Mark Stone took the lead 1-0 scoring Vegas’ first shorthanded goal on 2023-24. After the opening 20 minutes the 2023 Stanley Cup champions lead the 2022 Stanley Cup champions 1-0.

Vegas continued to pressure Colorado in the 2nd period. Jack Eichel scored his first of the game 9:35 into the frame, followed by William Carrier’s tap in from Stone. Fifty-two seconds later Eichel made it 4-0 Golden Knights with his second of the contest.

The Stanley Cup champions didn’t slow down in the final frame. Stone added his second of the night and William Karlsson joined the scoring party minutes later to stretch VGK’s lead to 6-0. Karlsson wasn’t finished and scored another for the Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights record improves to 11-0-1 defeating the Avalanche 7-0. Vegas’ torrid winning streak continues into Sunday’s game against Anaheim. Puck drop vs the Ducks is scheduled for 5 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: The game was fairly close for a little while… then it wasn’t. VGK absolutely destroyed the Avs from the middle of the game on and would not let up. A fanny wacking of the highest degree against a darn good team. (Analysis by Ken)

That was just a good old fashioned fanny wacking.

First SO of the year for the team and Adin Hill 41/41 Holy Shit!!!

Captain gets four points including two shorties Holy Shit!!!

Bagging two Eichel is a bit streaky is he not?

Carrier gets his third on an excellent shot proving once again his improved finishing appears here to stay. Might he not be better with Stephenson and Stone than Cotter permanently?

Dorofeyev sets up Karlsson not once but twice (Cassidy may just have found the answer for depth on that line as that makes three games in a row that Dorofeyev set up Karlsson).

What more can Cassidy ask for from his D corp? His league best #5 and #6 are out with injuries and he still sees 5 shots each from Petro and Theo each logging an assist.

    What a win.

    • Pistol Pete

      Make that 5 points (1 G/4 A) in 7 games
for Pav and to think he should have been awarded
an assist on a goal he set up three games ago. Not too shabby. Something tells me Cassidy will be keeping him on that line. He’s gotta like what he’s been seeing. A replacement for Reilly Smith who btw is doing great this season with PIT (6 G/5 A in 10 games).

    • Pistol Pete

Come to think of it when Roy returns Howden goes back up to the Stephenson line. With Roy back the scratch choice returns to Dorofeyev and Cotter. If Dorofeyev continues to produce on the Karlsson line I don’t see Cassidy taking him off it.

      • Diggles

Based on past couple games, scratch Cotter. Faster opponents frustrate him. Tonight showed. He only had one hit and carrying into offensive zone he couldn’t get any separation. Smashed into the boards repeatedly and lost the puck. Compounded by his meager 1 hit. Kolesar had a strong 6 of 18 for the team.
        Hoping Cotter bounces back tomorrow.

    • Emmanuel

Might he not be better with Stephenson and Stone than Cotter permanently?

Carrier – WK – Stone would be the best 2 way line in the league!

  2. What a great win…every facet of the game was clicking….though 4th line was virtually invisible tonight…Roy is proving to be a valuable commodity….tough spot for vgk tomorow against the ducks who have won 5 in a row..did i really just say that?..lol…and have a potential lookahead game against the red hot road warrior kings on wednesday!!

  3. Jailbird

The cream is coming to the top!Marchy the other nite, Jack and Stoney tonight. AVs made some pushes but to no avail. Boston lost so we stand alone as only team not to lose in regulation . Trap game Sunday vs Ducks. 11-0-1. Holy crap!

  4. TS

    HOLY COW!
The Odds- Gods had predicted this game to be a low- scoring affair…well, they got that H-A-L-F RIGHT!!
    Talk about a strong statement!!

  5. Pistol Pete

There’s been a little talk about the soft schedule to start the season except for one thing, it’s included the two of the best teams in the West, Dallas and Colorado and who would have thought one of the “easier” matchups (the Ducks) would go on a five game win streak?

  6. Jake

Eichel is the talent of the team. Always glad to see him score.

He deserves to be rewarded with a goal here and there for his outstanding defense and effort.

    • Pistol Pete

That’s right and with him now on the top PK unit and improving you know damn well what he’s thinking when he sees Stone get two shorties in one game. Only a matter of time before Eichel gets his next shorthanded breakaway.

    • Diggles

Agreed. Eichel does it all and he’s improved so much. Vegas was such a great move for him. We’re fortunate.

  7. Tim

A good old fashion ass kicking on the bench there coach couldn’t wait for the game to end.

    • Diggles

Everytime Scripps production crew dutifully put him on the live feed he looked the same: embarrassed and speechless.

  8. THE hockey GOD

in other news around the NHL the Sharks have improved by 100% since there last game in which they lost 10 to 1, in last nights game they lost 10 to 2.

Ex VGK had two goals and two assists.

    • Diggles

Former VGK doing the Lord’s work!

      • THE hockey GOD

diggles, the Lord favors Pittsburgh now!?!

Holy Mary Mother of Jesus ! (not used in vain, used as
an expression of exaltation ! )

        • Diggles

No, filleting the sharks! Their lowly fans were quite rude to my wife and I on their opening day so I’m holding the grudge and savoring their winless streak. The Lord hath agreed!

          • THE hockey GOD

diggles, sorry to hear you were treated so poorly .

            forgive them

that don’t know what they are doing (or who they are dealing with )

  9. TS

Stone is the MAN! If there had been talk of less- than- stellar play by some, Stone and Co. changed the conversation in a HURRY!!)

    • Diggles

      Liked…

      Longer is Better!

He sure does play HIS game. Imagine trying to advance the puck past him all night. Was a long night for the Avs.

  10. Jailbird

Now, keep their minds right and realize the Ducks are playing very well, are well rested and waiting to knock us off. Another back to back and a let down. The boys will need to generate some emotion tonight vs Ducks.

  11. As much as I was a Tuchy guy…as much as I thought he was due to stay healthy and have many productive 30 goal seasons…and I was happy he did have a breakout campaign last year…it was seemingly going to be more a hope unrealized than reality with VGK…Tuch Krebs and a #1 for a healthy and 26 year old Jack Eichel may just get the Front Office arrested for highway robbery!!

    • Pistol Pete

Definitely one of McCrimmon’s better moves along with Stone and Pietrangelo. Next big move is when Marchy retires. He’ll find an elite 28 year-old to replace him. Same thing with Petro. Sign an elite D in his prime. Who does not want to live and play here?

  12. knights fan in minny

big win for the class team of the west hilly was outstanding wild bill staying hot stoners 2nd goal was a thing of beauty all around a good effort bye all

  13. Henderson Knights

Karlsson is back to being Wild Bill of Year one.

Stone and other vets are just rounding into form, taking turns being the key guy on different nights.

the goaltending has been outstanding, and exactly the style and technique that blends perfectly with the Cassidy system since last year. LT and AH are the perfect tandem duo who are friends since they were kids.

  14. Richie-Rich

Let me focus on the negatives from last night.

    Nothing, I have nothing.

60 minutes of well played hockey against what the pundits believe to be the best team in the west.

As much as I like Cotter, I feel as if he has reached his ceiling whereas Dorofeyev still has a lot more potential, and I don’t think he’s even shaving yet.

The 4th line might not have produced, but they were also stout for 60 minutes.

The Avalanche did put 41 shots on net, many high danger, but Hill stood tall.

This game had playoff type atmosphere for the first 25 to 30 minutes. Then the VGK dismantled Colorado. I didn’t feel sorry for the Colorado fans near me who before the game were talking about how badly they were going to beat us. By the middle of the 2nd period they became very quiet and left midway through the 3rd period.

    • TS

Funny, how visiting fans feel so confident when their teams visit, but have to slip out of the arena in the dark when we bury them!

    • Pistol Pete

RR agree on Dorofeyev and Cotter. Cassidy has given Cotter his due and he has done pretty darn well getting 3 G/3 A in 12 games. I would be surprised though if Cassidy does not leave Dorofeyev on the Karlsson line, his spot to lose. His finesse and comportment is higher… higher ceiling for sure including defensively.

  15. knights fan in minny

best in the west pluck the ducks

  16. Tim

Next team up Anaheim like all teams they’ll give there best effort. When John Gibson is on he’s a tough out. Talent wise we are much deeper but in hockey anything can happen. As far as our schedule I don’t think it’s been that weak. L.A, Dallas, Colorado, 2 Games with Winnipeg, Philly, Chicago and Montreal aren’t that bad so overall I think we had a decent schedule. After our next 2 games with L.A. and San Jose we play 8 of the next 9 games on the road.

    • Sorvino

True that John Gibson can be tough when he is on. But their rookie back up Lukas Doskal is very good.

  17. THE hockey GOD

Let me focus on the negatives from last night.

    Nothing, I have nothing.

    (that is the correct response)

    followed by crickets.

  18. Arnold Rothstein

I’m all in on tonights game

    who is with me ???

    Arnold
    the
    Brain

(not Arnold the pig from Green Acres)
