VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 7 CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS 5 (35-18-6, 76 PTS)

Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to pick up a victory at home against the struggling Chicago Blackhawks. Vegas only needed :66 seconds to open the scoring. Keegan Kolesar set the table with his 11th goal of the season. The Blackhawks evened the score, but Nic Hague regained the Golden Knights lead minutes later. From there on the Golden Knights went on a scoring spree. Ivan Barbashev and Tomas Hertl recorded back-to-back power play goals, and Pavel Dorofeyev rounded out the period with his 24th goal of the season.

Leading 5-1 going into the middle frame the Golden Knights allowed two quick goals to the Blackhawks. At the 13:38 mark of the 2nd period Kolesar answered back with his second score of the night. After 40 minutes the home club held a 6-3 advantage.

Chicago scored twice in the final frame to get within one goal. Late in the game the Golden Knights stretched their lead to 7-5 from a tip-in off Barbashev’s stick. Chicago emptied their net, but Vegas held strong and preserved their two-goal edge.

The Golden Knights record improves 35-18-6 defeating the Blackhawks 7-5. Vegas will next welcome in New Jersey for a Sunday evening matchup. Puck drop against the Devils is scheduled for 5 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: The Golden Knights came out with a mission to prove how much better they are than the worst team in the league. It didn’t take long for them to prove it and prove it again and again and again. They seemed to lose focus from time to time which made it get a little dicey there. But in the end, one team is good, one team stinks. (Recap by Ken)

Record At Deadline Could Be A Tell As To How Active VGK May Be On This Year’s Trade Market

  1. There sitting back came close to backfiring again. Our goalie certainly didn’t look to sharp a number of times. The team needs to knock off this backing down and play an entire 60 minutes of hockey. They didn’t get burnt this evening but they very well could have.

    Pacific 1st Place 35-18-6, 76pts, +31gf/ga
Western 3rd Place tied with Dallas for 2nd in pts
League 4th Place behind the Jets, Caps, and Dallas

The boys seemed to have their MOJO back by blowing Chicago off the ice in the first period with 5 goals. It’s a good thing that they did because the Blackhawks outplayed the Golden Knights for most of the rest of the game. The VGK led 5-1, 5-2, 5-3, and 6-3 before the Blackhawks came to within a goal of tying it up late in the 3rd period.

The lack of consistency is concerning, but they remain in 1st place in the Pacific with Edmonton losing 5 straight. The VGK has been playing below average hockey now since December, and getting away with it.

I was hoping that Kolesar would get the hat trick late in the game. The pass almost got to him. I was disappointed that McNabb allowed that Blackhawk to skate past him along the boards and deliver that pass for the 5th goal. We don’t see McNabb make a huge defensive error like that very often.

Eichel hit the crossbar so hard they heard it in Chicago.

There are 23 games left in the season and every win counts. We want to make sure that we have home ice if we have to play either the Kings or the Oilers in the playoffs.

    12-11-0 = 100 pts

Oilers lose the fourth of their five game road trip, fall 4 pts behind the Knights with no games in hand and face the Canes on Saturday. Per usual I first watched the game on replay and went in assuming Samsanov had been sub par but actually it was less him than what was allowed to happen in front of him much like the Kings in period 3. We know how good this team can be defensively so I am expecting this aspect to get up to speed as the postseason approaches. Rewarding to see Barbashev do well playing in the bottom six. In fact that may stick given the extra depth he brings. Not at all surprised to see Kolesar and Howden have good games because I am going into the postseason not giving up on players just because of mid season slumping. Besides, these guys have already proven themselves in the playoffs so we know what they are capable of. In fact the whole roster assuming full health, there is no reason why they can’t play as well or better in the playoffs. Hertl and Dorofeyev have been excellent. The combo is a keeper. I tend to discount some of their minus +/- to puck luck and less their lack of defending, being able to box out the opponents. At least one of the forwards has to play less deep in order to help facilitate the break-out. Sure, they can improve their GA but it’s not the overriding issue imo. If it’s not them out there it happens to another line. Fine, it can be better and the coach will work on it with all the forwards.

Not an impressive game, but two points. We must get better or get some help. Sammy not playing well.

  5. NAM

That wasn’t too far off from the embarrassing Coyote melt down loss. Why in the heck wasn’t one of Stone, Eichel, or Hanfin off that game and enjoy a 4 day break. I don’t get it. Just burning them out.

Glad to see Kolesar and Howden have really good games. Some players need to step up into the shoes of the guys that left. At the hot start of the year I thought it might be these two, then it died down. It would be nice if they can build it back up by the playoffs. I mean we need something to happen if we aren’t going to trade.

Very clear the beasts in the EAST dominate over the west right now. VGK doesn’t match up well against hawks. And the deep state is fighting back Breaking news BREAKING: Pam Bondi is reportedly furious about not being given all the Epstein files by the FBI of New York.

    I don’t blame her.

Why is deep state protecting child r@pists ? Says all you need to know about women/girl hating left wingnut jobs out there. What next biological males abusing women in female sports ?

Richie-Rich’s posts are not getting through!

The defense and goaltending has been SUS since mid-December. It is quite obvious that a short term deal with Alex Martinez would have been a good deal. The defense seems unhinged without him.

  11. Whine not

the Vgk dzone netfront coverage is terrible. that has really been on display in the past few weeks. Petro was awful in the 3rd period in LA, and then he embarrassed himself even further on goal #1 by Chicago. I guess the 2 weeks off did him no good.

however, Samsonov is still no bargain in net either. He has a GAA of 3.79 and a save percentage of .810 in February alone. also, for the past 3 seasons his goals against is over 3.00 and his save % is below .900, and his goals saved above expected this season has him 39th among the nhl goalies.

  12. Henderson One

Petro seems to have lost it and we do not have a backup goalie. Not good for the plaayoffs.

    • Emmanuel

Its possible, ive seen players as good as Vincent Lecavalier lose it practically overnight. Talent/skill level is a mystery…..
