Last night, the Golden Knights hosted their 11th Eastern Conference opponent at T-Mobile Arena. In the remaining 40 games this season for the Golden Knights, half will be played at home. To break it down even further, 15 home contests will be conference and divisional matchups.
VGK’s 2nd Half Home Schedule
- 20 Games Remaining
- 15 Games vs. Western Conference teams
- 8 Games vs. Pacific Division teams
- 5 Games vs. Eastern Conference teams
- 1 Back-to-Back situation
Now with the second half underway, overtime points aren’t something VGK can continue to hand out like Oprah. With teams like Anaheim, San Jose, and Seattle still in the mix, even one point will greatly benefit teams fighting for the 3rd place position in the Pacific Division and the two Western Conference wild card spots. Taking care of those opponents at home will make it more difficult to climb the standings and threaten VGK’s position in the division.
Vegas’s second half road schedule presents some challenges and opportunities to separate themselves from other clubs jockeying for postseason positions. Next week, the Golden Knights travel to San Jose and Los Angeles. Two clean wins for Vegas could put some distance between them and the two Pacific postseason hopefuls. On the flip side, after the Olympic break, the Golden Knights will voyage on a coast-to-coast five-game road trip. They’ll begin in LA, and then plane hop from DC, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Detroit. Sure, there isn’t a team like the Avalanche on that road trip, but all five clubs are feverishly fighting for a spot in the postseason.
VGK’s 2nd Half Road Schedule
- 20 Games Remaining
- 12 Games vs. Western Conference teams
- 7 Games vs. Pacific Division teams
- 8 Games vs. Eastern Conference teams
- 3 Back-to-Back situations
A major concern with the Golden Knights’ second half road schedule is the number of back-to-backs. Vegas will host only one back-to-back scenario at home, whereas they will have to deal with three on the road. Later this month, the Golden Knights will face the Bruins in Boston on one night and then travel to Toronto to battle the Maple Leafs the next evening. On January 31st, Vegas will wrap up a two-game set at home against Seattle, immediately followed by a game in Anaheim the following night. Sure, the first game will be played at T-Mobile Arena, but the second will be in Anaheim at the Honda Center 23.5 hours later.
Vegas’ last back-to-back will occur in early March. Vegas will wrap up a five-game road trip with back-to-backs in Buffalo and Detroit. Difficult but not impossible.
VGK’s 2nd Half Point Breakdown
- 40 Games Remaining (80 Points)
- 20 Home Games (40 Points)
- 20 Away Games (40 Points)
- 27 Games vs. Western Conference teams (54 Points)
- 15 Games vs. Pacific Division teams (30 Points)
- 12 Games vs. Eastern Conference teams (24 Points)
It’s likely that the Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers will battle down the stretch for the Pacific Division crown. The Oilers have a slight leg up since they will not be forced to travel east at all in the second half of the season. Like Vegas, Edmonton has been inconsistent as well; however, they will not have to play a minute in the Eastern Time zone in their final 38 games.
We hear it every season, and we’ll undoubtedly hear it again the year. Vegas just needs to take care of their end and not worry about other team’s schedules. If they can take advantage of their home games it should be another postseason berth for the 31st franchise.

Are we really up crabs Creek with heart being out now I mean let’s put it this way Schmidt has I think the best record of any goalie I’m not too worried about him except for he is younger I think and we are bringing up Mr L from the silver Knights but if we can play well enough defensively I’m hoping this won’t be an issue too bad we just can’t get the truth on Carter Hearts injury and possible return and Aiden Hill and say Theodore and William Carlson

Whatever the NHL can do to facilitate the &$)(& oilers to have an easier gentle path they will do, to get their pet team back and rested for the playoff tournament!

Let’s all take a deep breath. Both VGK and EDM have “easier” schedules for the back half of the season – in fact, they are right next to each other, per the link… https://www.tankathon.com/nhl/remaining_schedule_strength
Interestingly, Colorado has a VERY easy second half of the season

The Pav and Bowman -11’s
Bowman’s -11 I can understand he’s a rookie with 26 games under his belt and he needs to learn to defend better.
Pav’s is harder to comes to terms with he was +14 over his first 149 games and after he busted onto the scene scoring goals Cassidy would say things like he taking care of his assignments and that he never had to remind him to do it he just did it and the #14 through 2024-25 was evidence of it. 2025-26 he’s all of a sudden -11 playing with Hertl and Marner. I am at a loss to explain it unless it’s related to his improving playmaking somehow as that is evolving it’s taking away for his defense? And btw Hertl is minus every VGK season so far but he produces offense PP and 5 on 5 so +/- is not everything.
One thing is certain: Cassidy noted those two picture perfect rush plays in the CBJ game with Pav setting up Bowman in the slot. If Bowman had Pav’s shot one or both could have been goals. Another thing is certain: if Pav and Bowman can anchor the fourth line as a scoring threat it will be a big deal. It must have Cassidy rubbing his palms together in anticipation. Let’s see how it goes tonight against the Blues.

I forgot to mention above that prior to this season Pav played mostly RW his preferred side. Whether playing on the left this season has impacted his +/- who knows. Cassidy will tell you there is an element of luck and randomness for example the goalie allows a soft goal, line changes etc. these can lead to +/- being a misleading indicator of defensive effectiveness for a forward.
This line was not together all of 2024-25 but was for a significant portion and anyone who follows the team closely will recall Cassidy and McCrimmon mentioning multiple times how effective the line was. Fwiw note Hertl’s minus.
2024-25:
Saad (+6)-Hertl (-3)-Dorofeyev (+2)
In conclusion whereas the coaching staff may be working on Pav’s and Bowman’s 2025-26 minus 11’s ten gets you one Cassidy is more concerned right now with making them a fourth line scoring threat. For depth that would be huge.
Wonder if Cassidy has considered turning Pav into a center?

I have my fingers crossed A little payback for St Louis Tonight

So much for my Pav/Bowman theory lol. I do like keeping the Kolesar/Bowman switch. Koley looked pretty good with Howden and Hertl the other night. Saad scratched.

Theodore is back in a regular jersey. Looks like he’s been in the lineup tonight.
