EDMONTON OILERS 4 VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 2 (29-21-14, 72 PTS)

Recap: The Golden Knights were hoping to get back on track with a victory at home against the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton had several dangerous chances but Adin Hill made some key stops to keep the game scoreless.

Edmonton took the opening lead quickly into the middle frame. Ten minutes Vegas defenseman Noah Hanifin evened the score 10 minutes later.

Again the Oilers took the lead early into the 3rd period. Edmonton extended their lead to 3-1 with a late four-on-four goal. Vegas cut the lead to one with a shorthanded goal by Jack Eichel. With under two minutes, the Oilers regained their two goal lead with an empty net score.

The Golden Knights record drops to 29-21-14 falling to the Oilers 4-2 at T-Mobile Arena. Next, Vegas will travel to Dallas for a battle on Tuesday evening. Puck drop against the Stars at 5 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: The Golden Knights came in with a pretty clear plan in this game against Edmonton. That plan was to limit opportunities and force the Oilers to prove they can defend in their own end for long stretches. For the most part, VGK achieved the goal, yet it did not pay off because they fell into one of their old traps of being unwilling to go to the front of the goal and win loose pucks. Edmonton didn’t get a ton of chances, but they got enough. (Analysis by Ken)

There should be a LOT of new faces in this organ-eye-zay-shun next season.

even the peanut vendor will be replaced.

it will be Foley’s folly if he keeps the same ol’ same ol’

  2. DeezNutz

More classic VGK limp dick offense. It’s pretty much their identity around the league now. Your goalie is struggling night after night giving up 5+ goals? No problem just put him in against the Golden limp dicks and he’ll be feeling like a Vezina winner.

    Fire the skills coach
    Fire the goalie coach

Tick tock Bruce, December is closer than you think.

  3. FG

It was a foregone conclusion VGK would lose as soon as the lineup was announced.
There is organization wide failure. The Pacific should just forfeit its playoff spots this year since they are all bums.

  4. Abe

I would like to see a new general manager try to make something out of this mess of a roster

  5. Apparently, Edmonton didn’t get the memo that Vegas was supposed to win this evening. Net front presence just isn’t in their vocabulary. The door is closing as the schedule isn’t helping them any – not sure that would make any difference. Well, let’s see how things go Tuesday evening – maybe someone can send the Stars the memo about letting Vegas win as it looks like that maybe the only way it will happen. Who knows they might get hot – stop rolling in the aisle in laughter. It doesn’t seem to matter if they play like shit or better than shit unfortunately the results are the same.

The results are in and I’m guessing #4 won’t be signed, and we lost Whitey and picks! Whitey was better at getting the puck out of the zone among other things. Why is Saad anywhere near the ice? Calling Cole Reinhardt. Outhit 26-15 and our new guys looked too slow to line people up to be hit. Kolesar not cutting it. After watching parts of 3 or 4 intense games this weekend, sitting through this one was demoralizing. Horrible outcome versus a team giving up tons of goals. Dropping like a rock with nothing to stop this mess.

    • Emmanuel

Theyre pretty thin defensively all of a sudden.
If its short term sign him.

    • Henderson's Finest

Cole Reinhardt got claimed by Florida when he was put on waivers to make room for Dowd

I hate to break it to the people, but they aren’t getting it done regardless of Saad, Reinhardt, Holtz, Smith etc, etc, etc in or out of the lineup. Blaming this entire teams failure on Saad or any bottom tier player is silly. Are we getting the value for the 2 million for Saad, no probably not. Smith? I think Smith is fine for a 2 million dollar player. Is he playing like his old 5 million dollar self, not really. Is he a super duo with Karlsson this year, def not. Does that matter? I am guessing it does. I just want to make the point that this team isn’t getting smoked by good teams because of Saad. They would still suck without him.

        • Saad is symptomatic of what is wrong and has gone wrong with this team, he was signed for $2 million rather than Olaffson for $1 million ( not that he was a world.
-beater but could at least be counted on to score some goals), if the FO had listened to me and cut bait with him at the 30 game mark we wouldn’t still be discussing him today

Reinhardt was/is a completely different case in that he was fast, young and affordable and probably could have been molded into a solid bottom 6

As I’ve stated since it happened I won’t reiterate my stance as to the mindless train wreck that the Andersson trade was and is, in my line of work and in most lines of work, the person or persons responsible for something like this are actively shown the door.

          • I actually agree with you on most of this but sure hope something comes of it at some point so I won’t have to listen to the same stuff coming from you

    • Vic – I think I saw some place where Cole Reinhardt was on waivers and pick up by the Panthers.

  7. HSK

    Hertl minus 3
Andersson, Lauzon, Saad, and Kolesar all minus 2

    • Emmanuel

Tommy is -19 in losses this year. -8 in march. Minus in all VGK seasons.

      Hes projected as 82 31 39 70 -13 this year.

    Game 64 Analysis EDM 4 VGK 2

The Golden Knights high powered scoring engine is sputtering, low on gas. They limited the chances but the goals the Oilers scored was with Hill on his back, his stomach or side. He simply cannot stay up on his feet. Failure to get Binnington is going to be a footnote this season.

On the other hand, it’s just not the goaltending. This team doesn’t feel like it has energy, and is lacking emotion. We feel it, they feel and you know opposing teams feel it.

At this point I don’t have any really positive to say. The teams not bad, but it certainly isn’t even close to top tier.

  9. It’s time for the creator to fire the management team. Too many poor decisions and very comfortable players. This will send a real message to the players that you better be playing all out because there’s a new sheriff comming to town. As, for the coach he’s proven himself let the new general manager make that decision next year.

  10. Rrale

Watching last night’s game looked more like a game in October. Binnington, I do not believe is the answer. Ken, are there any goalie possibilities next year? Not sure VGK could really trade for an upgrade in the offseason, can you say no cap room. I can see the VGK making the playoffs as in play one round and then golf time.

  11. Walt

a new GM would not feel any misguided loyalty towards the current players, or the coaching staff.

He would be able to make the necessary independent decisions to make major changes, not just tinker around the edges.

for that reason, there should be a front office cleanout as soon as the season ends.

that is of course assuming that things do not change much for the better over the last 18 games.

  12. Pistol Pete

That sounds pretty good on the surface of it just not clear on the specifics.

Are you suggesting McCrimmon feels misguided loyalty towards the players, Cassidy and his staff?

Not sure what major changes are possible given the cap hits and development pipeline plus they are short on draft capital.

Foley will hang tight with McPhee imo.

As for the last 18 games either this post-Olympic slump is something systemic or it’s not. Either way I don’t see Foley terminating McPhee. It is always possible McPhee will recommend changing GM’s if he really thinks that is the issue.

  13. The fact that there are cap hits, very little in the way of a developmental pipeline and being short on draft capital has to be laid at the feet of someone, someone who clearly is not in tune with present day players and their true worth , and seemingly it would be KMGM, but I would have to believe there has to be some sort of input coming from the coaching staff as well.
