VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 3 WINNIPEG JETS 2 (19-7-3, 41 PTS) – OT

Recap: The Golden Knights traveled to Winnipeg for their first game since last Friday. The Jets opened the scoring midway through the opening twenty minutes. Vegas outshot Winnipeg 12-to-4 in the period but couldn’t even the score before the break.

Again, the Golden Knights outshot the Jets but still couldn’t score the game-tying goal. Vegas had several quality chances but was unable to find the back of the net. After 40 minutes the Jets held a 1-0 edge.

Eventually, Vegas would tie the game 1-1 early in the final frame. Keegan Kolesar was awarded with his 7th goal of the season. Close to the midway point of the third period Winnipeg regained their one-goal lead. With time winding down Vegas was awarded two penalties in a :13 span. Victor Olofsson found the net on the 5-on-3 power play to forced overtime. In OT Ivan Barbashev fulfilled the comeback with his 14th goal of the season.

The Golden Knights record improves to 19-7-3 defeating the Jets 3-2 in OT. Vegas will next take on the Oilers in Edmonton on Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: About as territorially dominant of a game as you’ll see between two of the best teams in the conference. VGK lived in the Winnipeg end but they struggled to find ways to get either clean looks with traffic or second-chance opportunities against Connor Hellebuyck. Eventually though, thanks to some help from Jets penalties, the Golden Knights power play broke through and then they stole the extra point in overtime.  (Analysis by Ken)

  1. The result was obviously fantastic but regardless to the outcome was the way they looked offensively and defensively throughout.

Play that kind of game and great things can happen and unfold this year!

  2. Frank

That was a big boy game right there. Outstanding win!!!!!!

  3. Ice Warrior

Fun Fact: Kolesar and Marchessault are now tied in goals scored this season.

  4. JB

Completely the better team tonight! Great start to this three game trip. Now a days rest and bring on the Oilers. Good job Boys!

GAME 29 Analysis VGK 3, WPG 2 OT
    Pacific 1st Place 19-7-3 +18
Western 3rd Place behind WPG & MIN with 2 games in hand
League 4th Place behind WPG, MIN, WSH

This was a quality team come from behind victory against one of the top goal tenders in the NHL. There’s nothing to complain about at all. Crisp puck handling, excellent passing, great defense and goal tending against the top club in the NHL. The time off showed with fresh legs! Kolesar, Olofsson and Barbashev with the OT game winner. I am happy it did not go to a shootout.

Dah Jets didnt look like Cup contenders…….

      • Pistol Pete

I can’t quite agree. That was a well played game by both teams. In the end the breaks sort of went Vegas’ way. I do think the VGK when healthy is the better team though.

      • ThG

I agree , completely out played, why? Maybe due to blow out prior game with Bruins. Anyone saying otherwise is drunk or smacking their PP upside their toilet seat.

        • Emmanuel

Winni barely got their puck out of there own end. Maybe theyve peaked early. Theyve also been healthy until recently, thats a HUGE advantage.

Get some lumi for that piehole tweaker, your posts are stinking up the joint again. The person met my family and came across as someone on drugs. Needs help, obviously some mental illness going on.

Says the creepy stalker,as Top Dog says below get some help for your obsessive creepy harassment and stalking behavior. Lots of therapy is needed here folks.

You know your constant comments AFTER one poster here is tiresome. Why don’t you give it a rest. No one comes to this site to see you post the same repetitive garbage that you do after they post. Your posts are basically meaningless. Why don’t you focus on hockey, seem you have a clear behavior disorder that transcends normalcy. Take a good look in mirror because you are not doing yourself any favors.

  6. Pistol Pete

Karlsson and Dorofeyev are looking good. Only a matter of time before those guys starting scoring together. When Dorofeyev went on his maiden goal scoring run last year Karlsson was centering him. Howden is just fine on that line too.

Good puck management tight defensive structure. That is the Jets first defeat of the year when leading after two periods.

    • ThG

your buddy pavel choked yet again,-1, when he is going to score again ?

      meanwhile LAK lose

      • Pistol Pete

Karlsson was -1 too and just 1 G/1 A in the last 11 games. Those games Pav is 3 G/2 A. Where Hertl belongs remains something of an enigma. Cassidy will figure it out. Meanwhile we’ll see how it goes.

        • ThG

Karlsson was out of lineup for more games than Doro, tell the whole story and stop cherry picking

          • Karlsson s value to the team and on the ice can never be questioned and certainly not quantifiable by sheer offense numbers!

          • Pistol Pete

I really have no idea what you are talking about. Karlsson missed the first 8 games of the season due to injury and mot one since except one for the birth of his baby. If you check you”ll see his pts/game on the year is within a tenth of a point of Pav’s. The only question in my mind is one I’m sure Cassidy has: is Pav better with Karlsson or is he better with Hertl?

        • ThG

Again with the cherry picking, it’s the coach’s job to find the right line combination not some loser commenter on board who is wrong more often that right. You are agreeing with me when I say Karlsson was out of line up. So your post is just more jibber jabber. That is all you have jibber jabber, you even admitted a few weeks ago you like Cotter. So stop with the mealy mouth double speak.

    • NAM

Doro was not good last night. What are you talking about? You have some creepy infatuation with this kid.

      • Pistol Pete

I really don’t think Cassidy thought to himself Doro was not good last night. It’s usually not that simple anyways.

        • ThG

Nam is right, and it is THAT simple. Well unsophisticated fans like yourself over think things. All the time.

          • Pistol Pete

Pretty hard to “over think” that one. Either Pav was all round bad or he was better in some areas than others. NAM stated “Doro was not good last night” and I disagreed inferring it was a sweeping statement which it was. Turns out my perpetual bullishness on Pav irks NAM when every game I have something forward looking positive to say about the player. I get it.

          • ThG

IT was a fact, not a “sweeping” statement, the fact that more than one person points this out is eating at your innards. Stating hey maybe PP is wrong. Listen buster you are wrong more often that not with your double speak, and back tracking.

        • NAM

Doro’s strength is very simply, scoring. He is not a good defender, he is not good winning battles. So when he has a bad night and f’s up on at least two extremely good open net chances (I think there was 3) and the team is behind and struggling to score that is a problem. Plus as usual he wasn’t great elsewhere on the ice. Cassidy understands exactly what he has in Doro and last night would have said he would like to have those ones back. They won the game no big deal.

I am not shitting on Doro’s play. He is getting better and will continue to get better. In the mean time he provides the team a player with the nose for the net.

But you do need to tone down the weird Doro comments every game, even if he sucks that game.

          • Pistol Pete

Fair enough NAM and looking back at what I posted I get your point,

“Karlsson and Dorofeyev are looking good. Only a matter of time before those guys starting scoring together. When Dorofeyev went on his maiden goal scoring run last year Karlsson was centering him. Howden is just fine on that line too.”

however if a co-poster/fan wants to be repeatedly bullish on the team’s most promising prospect, I think if I kept reading what someone like me keeps posting I would probably just let the fan enjoy their view through their rose those colored glasses and be on my way vs. bringing them down to earth like you did me this last time but that this just how I would approach bullish co-fans, I suppose I can see your frustration when viewing what you might consider over optimism.

You make some valid points, but actually I think Cassidy views Pav as more than just a guy with a nose for the net. As you correctly pointed out he’s improving but may be of more value to Cassidy defensively than you realize. Notice that when in the O zone he is quick to reset as Cassidy calls it retreating to the N zone to be ready to backcheck back to the D zone. Last year Cassidy remarked about him handling his defensive assignments and not having to be “reminded to do things, he just does them”. One of his other strengths is his hockey IQ and overall smarts. He’s clearly stronger on the puck, wins more battles, protects the puck better than when he first came up. I saw examples in last night’s game. In fact McCrimmon told me personally they saw this aspect improving in Henderson: “bigger, stronger, more in the play”.

I don’t think anybody here has a problem with Pav developing chemistry with Karlsson or Hertl on the way to becoming a bonafide 25 goal scorer and better set-up guy. That was the whole point to my post. Just remember where you first heard it! By the way I was not one of the guys bemoaning Eichel’s high price tag, doubting his competitiveness or ability to improve his two way game. A number here did, but I was bullish, kept on those rose colored glasses and the team went on to win the Cup. I’m proud be enough of a “hockey expert” to have seen in Jack what he has. Hopefully I am as right about Dorofeyev. We sure could use another solid to six winger.

I played high school hockey but now I just listen to coaches. mostly Bruce Cassidy listen and learn.

          • Richie-Rich

Pav has failed to register a point in 5 straight games. He is -5 this season (29 games), the only other skater with a larger negative is Tomas Hertl with -9. However, in 96 games Pav is +7. So, something is a bit off right now. He is .52 ppg for his career, and this year through 29 games he is .58 ppg, so a bit higher than his career average.

I don’t think Cassidy is worried about Pav. The question that I still has yet to be answered is if Pav is a 2nd liner or 3rd liner. This 5 game drought needs to come to an end. He’s been getting 3 or 4 shots per game, so I expect him to put some points up and maintain that ppg at .58 or better.

  7. Tim

Now that was a hockey game played well by both teams. We got lucky on that second penalty to make it 5 on 3 at the end when we tied it but overall I think we were a little better. It doesn’t get any easier off to Edmonton.

    • The hockey God

“got lucky” how so ? Clear chop on Stone, 3-2 is a boring score wouldn’t you say TIMMAH ?

Another win from behind by comeback kids. Just like TRUmP.

      • ThG

What a loser post, the chaos was the last four years. Psycho nut job.

What a whacko. Get some help, you clearly need it. Delusional poster with no clue of what is going on in the real world. NONE whatsoever.

your anger continues have fun with it 4 years of normal ahead

  12. NAM

I like Kolesar this year. He does a lot of good things. I used to call him stone-hands cause he would get opportunities but had such a terrible shot/finish and would F it up. His shooting is so MUCH better this year and I notice him often in all aspects of the game. I used to talk down on him, but he has gotten better every year and is a very valuable lower cost player at this point. Good for him. This team needed people to step up this year with off season losses and he is definitely doing his part. It was a good win last night. The team, while flat offensively at times, has really come on defensively and winning because of it.

    • Emmanuel

Hes 27, 26/27 is when MOST players have their best seasons. Thats why you gotta be careful not to give em a big contract after those seasons its downhill (and sometimes quickly) after that……

    • Pistol Pete

Nicely nuanced on Kolesar. Agree with all you said.

  13. BeatsBJ

Canes shut out 3-0 at home by the Senators.

    • ThG

welcome to jungle, and keep on “beating BJ” the hater poster who advocates violence. What a piece of shit.
