The Golden Knights had a hard time getting possession for most of the 1st period which limited them offensively. They were controlling the Jets in their own end until a mistake from Fleury allowed for an easy tap in for Joel Armia to give Winnipeg the 1-0. An absolute monster effort by Reilly Smith (see below) got the Golden Knights on the board with a shorthanded goal, then Erik Haula found a puck underneath Hellebuyck to give Vegas the lead after 40. Late in the 3rd the Jets tied the game sending it to OT. A wild OT period in which it appeared Winnipeg scored three times ends with a David Perron snipe to give the Golden Knights the win.

Smith’s goal was a monster indeed. I’ll think of that goal years from now remembering magical season one. Smith turned the game around by knocking down the captain and scoring shorthanded to help gain an important 2 points. It’s season one in a nutshell.
