Praise Be To Foley, Vegas Golden Knights Hockey Website

Recap: The Golden Knights didn’t take long to jump on the scoreboard first in the opening period. Jack Eichel notched his 28th and 29th goal of the season in the first eight minutes of the frame. Later in the period, the Golden Knights took two costly penalties. Vancouver took advantage and tied the game 2-2 before the break.

The track meet between both teams continued in the middle frame. Noah Hanifin snapped the 2-2 tie on the power play midway through the period. Vancouver came right back scoring two goals to take a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.

The third period was tight with both teams limiting chances. Vegas pulled their goalie with under two minutes remaining but couldn’t find the game-tying goal.

The Golden Knights record drops to 42-27-8 falling to the Canucks 4-3 in Vancouver. Vegas will next face the Edmonton Oilers in a possible playoff preview on Wednesday night. Puck drop in Edmonton is scheduled for 5:30 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: VGK got off to a quick start thanks to a struggling goaltender in the opposing net. They scored on each of their first two shots but it went south from there. A couple penalties put the Canucks right back in it, then VGK’s offense kind of shut off aside from one more power play goal. They looked stagnant in the O-Zone and didn’t have enough forecheck to get through a stingy Vancouver D. Two blown leads against a potential upcoming playoff opponent. (Analysis by Ken)

Game 77 Analysis VGK 3 VAN 4 LOSS

    VGK records now stands at 42-27-8, 92pts .597, +20 GF/GA

Once again the VGK blew a 2-0 lead and wound up losing for the first time ever in Vancouver. The difference in this game was that there were too many penalties by the VGK. The playoff picture is beginning to settle out with the Golden Knights looking to back into the playoffs as the 2nd Wild Card. The Blues remain 5 points behind the VGK with 4 games left in their season. The VGK has 5 games remaining and can shut the door on the Blues by going at least 2-2-1 or 1-2-2. Any combination of 4 points shuts the door on the Blues.

  2. Vancouver was more interested in winning than Vegas. Despite a great start the third lacked any intensity and slow moving. Vegas could take a lesson or two from Vancouver screening the goalie. Their pp goals had two big guys in front of LT with zero chance of seeing anything. Vegas defense is inept at moving guys out which compounds the problem. It’s frustrating watching when they give the impression whether true or not that winning isn’t that important. Let’s see if they can pick it up against the oilers Wednesday night.

    • Richie-Rich

Cassidy said the same thing about boxing out the VAN players from the crease, but he also said that Thompson should own the paint and establish himself there and help out. He was too deep in the crease. Otherwise, the game was fairly even. The penalty against Dorofeyev was complete bullshit, but it is what it is. Blew a 2-0 lead and allowed the Canucks back into the game.

      First loss ever in Vancouver.

    • TS

HDBIKER, I also saw how well Vancouver planted their guys at our net, blocking LT’s ability to see. So effective. We looked lost trying to defend it.

  3. Ken asked an interesting question, who would you prefer playing. Vancouver, Edmonton or Dallas. I would say it unfortunately doesn’t matter. This team doesn’t look like it’s capable of beating any of these teams. They look soft and due to all the changes not very cohesive. When they got the 2 goal lead tonight I knew they wouldn’t keep it. Not something I would say about any of our teams except the one that missed the playoffs. Will make for an interesting off season. They don’t have time to get it together and don’t have the advantage of a number one seed to develop chemistry.

  4. PJT

Yeah it’s one of those games. It was close, they had home advantage. At least it wasn’t a blowout. What we can see are the weak points in defense. The first 2 goals easily attributed to defensive lapses. Whitecloud and McNabb just stood around puck watching as Garland pots a bad rebound in. Sure its a fast play but defensive instinct would be to throw your body at the opposing player or shove him out of the way. Instead, our guys just didn’t wanna get hurt and decided to battle with their sticks which they subsequently lost.

Pretty much same thing with the Nuck’s second goal except this time the defensemen should be using their bodies to muscle out the nuck player from the blue paint. None of that happen and equalizer.

Then another blue line goal which is almost a repeat of the 2nd goal. Same mistake, nuck player in the blue paint. No one challenged him for the spot. Easy seeing-eye goal and another equalizer. Lastly, bad rebound control, bouncing puck and the nuck player had better cocaine/smelling salts then our guys and his reaction time was amazing whilst our guys look tired.

Finally, the lack of discipline is starting to be a liability. Yes we don’t have a goon enforcer and the nucks look like they were gonna push us around. Howden decided it was a good time to get some payback on Zadarov for that boarding penalty he was the receiving end of last game at T-mobile. If you’re not the team’s enforcer, tough, let it go otherwise you’ll just be taking a selfish penalty which will cost the team and it did.

Clean it up and we can take’em down in the post season. Also, we can’t afford the almost goals that Amadio, Karlsson and Kolesar had. At this time of the year, if you’re not scoring during breakaways, what are you doing taking up roster space? Inexcusable.

  5. Vic

Two first period penalties to VGK happened immediately after two non calls against Van. Team has to be disciplined to not change the tone of the game with penalties even though the one on Pav was a joke. Need to see Hutton instead of Martinez and Whitecloud more often. Backing into the playoffs (maybe) is not good as the VGK weaknesses are exposed every game.

  6. Ct500lt

It was Hague in on 3 goals for the Canucks. He just stood there and let the Canucks block Thompsons view.

    • TS

Ct500, and LT was clearly frustrated because of it. No one was boxing out at net!

  7. Bolts1

    2 things stand out glaringly.

First, the defensemen on the Vgk are soft stickcheckers in front of their own net. and that is a losers strategy. They need to BOX OUT their man in front of the net, period!

and 2, the Vgk are perimeter players in the offensive zone. They don’t get in front of the goalie, not even on a PP. How often do we see Jack Eichel standing near the left boards with the puck and passing it back and forth to the dman at the point? way too often. They need to be shooting the puck with men in front of the goalie, screening him out just like Vancouver did.

Hertl winning all the faceoffs and going directly to the net front was refreshing to see, but it just highlighted the failure of the other centers on the team on faceoffs, and the failure of the other forwards to get in front of the goalie. These are season long problems, not one game problems.

Yep, it all adds up to a soft team at both ends of the ice that gets outbattled by the opponent for pucks and positioning, and that spells doom in hockey games.

  9. ThG

loss of best d man, no. 7, is clearly evident

Mr Coach “LT can’t own paint” when d men can’t block out other team. Goalie
is only good as d men in front of him. This loss isn’t on LT. Hard to stop a puck
when you can’t see the puck in first place.

Two ticky tack calls on VGK, which is due to poor discipline on part of VGK
forwards. Both forwards had no business taking those penalties in first place.

Coach left , for all practical purposes, the same players on ice for final three minutes of game. What kind of message does that send to rest of team?

    In last
thirty seconds of game, all VGK players on the ice were huffing and puffing, exhausted. Couldn’t muster a quality scoring chance. Van. Coaching staff, Rick Tocchet clearly has evolved as a coach, clearly out coached VGK coaching staff with help of home ice. Creating match ups that VGK could not adjust too.

Meanwhile Joe blunder is destroying America with open border and invasion. Turning our nation into third world shit hole, with criminals and people that have no added value from neofascist nations, and marxist nations. WE are losing our language, our border, our culture. Completely upending our society. It’s disgusting and pathetic.

meanwhile in biden’s new broke woke world, why is this guy still in the Catholic Church ? HE clearly doesn’t abide by this Church’s teachings. No communion for you, no wafer for you today !!

    newsflash from babylon bee

VATICAN — In a rare instance of its viewpoints aligning with divine truth, the Vatican announced that it had reluctantly sided with God on the subject of gender theory.

Despite its ongoing efforts to blur the lines of objective morality and evolve the Catholic Church into a more progressive entity, the Vatican said it had no choice but to take the same position held by Almighty God and condemn gender theory.

“We don’t do this very often,” said one Vatican spokesman. “It’s always our policy to try to find a workaround to avoid siding with God on these types of things, but we couldn’t really stay away from it this time around. You got us on this one, Lord. As much as His Holiness may dislike it, we’re going to stand with God on this.”

Pope Francis has built a reputation for espousing far more progressive positions on other geopolitical and social topics like climate change and immigration but felt forced to adopt a biblical view. “He spent a lot of time trying to come up with a different solution,” the spokesman said. “In the end, he just shook his head and decided we would side with God. It’s not our favorite thing to do anymore, but sometimes we have to do it.”

Religious experts expressed surprise that an institution made up entirely of men who wear frilly, ornate robes would express opposition to drag queens and men identifying as women.

At publishing time, the Vatican assured fans that its next policy stance would be far more immoral and counter to God’s Word.

  11. Danny Gallivan

LT and Hill should start giving the opponents the Billy Smith or Ron Hextall treatment. If they are going to crowd his crease, then give them a crosscheck in the back. Battle them physically. Hill did it in the playoffs, and it was a success. It would hopefully drag the soft Vgk dmen into the fight, and point out to them their lack of protection of their goalies, and why they have to box out.

If the Vgk are going to take penalties, then make them penalties that help the team strategy-wise in the long run, that bring the team together……not the stupid penalties like Howden took that hurt the team and accomplished nothing. one was in the neutral zone vs a little guy, Garland, and the other was a dumb penalty 200 feet from his net.

  12. Frank

Penalty kill is still way too soft. We don’t pressure the point men and give way too much space and time. Add insult to injury, we collapse down low and don’t allow the goaltender a clear view of shots coming in from point men, causing massive screens and enemy bodies in front of net. Something needs to change here.

  13. ThG

forgot to say first game back for HErtl in long time, appeared to me to be easily moved off the puck on several possessions. Needs to get stronger on puck control, maybe injury is still a bother ?

    • JB

He hasn’t played in almost three months. Give him a few games.

      • ThG

cassidy showed confidence in him, giving him all faceoffs in o zone in last three minutes, despite stephenson sitting on bench with higher rate.

I just think the coach is playing his best players, but then again this is supposed to be a team with everyone. Not happy with exclusion of some players down the stretch.

  14. JB

I’m not worried about making the playoffs. Either we get the 3-4 points we need or we don’t. More worried about the front of our net. That was awful. Been preaching for couple years now we needed one or two tuff d-men who would clear the front. Seems like the managements thought are just to add offensive d-men. And where Hutton? He was playing great! And I agree with comment that the goalies need to start getting aggressive vs guys standing in front of net.

    • TS

Jb, we ALL posted the sane thread, it seems: net D was non- existent last night, and it cost us the game! #1 D rule is Protect your Goalie!

  15. Like Cassidy said in the postgame , in todays NHL you have to at least box out your man cause there’s not much else you can do due to ‘player safety’… I added that last part.

I was out of hockey for over 30 years until season 2 of VGK, so not sure what rules were actually implemented to cause such a softening of protecting the front of your net, once upon a time a forward took his life in his hands to be in front of a goalie, but sadly not the case anymore!!

    • ThG

i guess you are missing all the cross checking and tackling in front of the net that
      refs refuse to call.

      • Yes I miss old time hockey… yes I miss the scrums that would ensue…yes I don’t appreciate play stopping on a dime and each opponent going back to their neutral corner…yes though I hate the panthers I respect the style of play … their irritants and agitators.

  16. vgk21

St Louis Blues have 4 games left, and 2 of them are vs Carolina and Dallas. I assume they will lose at least one of those, which means that Vgk need to win at least one more game out of 5 remaining to back into a playoff spot.

    • ThG

the blues have a shitty team, and these teams will probably “let ” them win knowing that they have no chance to win in playoffs, and don’t want to face (DAllas I am looking at you ) the VGK. I think someone else said the same thing a few days ago about PDB playing his AHL squad (don’t know how he would do that though)
