Praise Be To Foley, Vegas Golden Knights Hockey Website

Recap: The Golden Knights took on the Maple Leafs in an attempt to avenge their 7-3 defeat to Toronto last week in Las Vegas. Adin Hill had to be sharp early in the game, stopping several quality chances from Toronto. Vegas added some pressure at the end of the period and held the Maple Leafs scoreless in the opening 20 minutes.

Vegas’ offense heated up in the middle frame, beginning at the 9:11 mark of the period. First Ivan Barbashev opened the scoring with his 14th goal of the season. Mason Morelli doubled Vegas advantage three minutes later. Toronto cut the lead to 2-1 but William Karlsson recorded his 20th goal of 2023-24 late in the period. The Golden Knights held a 3-1 edge going into the second intermission.

The reigning champions locked down defensively in the final period, limiting the high-powered Maple Leafs. Midway through the frame, Jonathan Marchessault added his 31st of the season to make it a 4-1 Vegas advantage. The Golden Knights leading goal scorer would add to his career-high in goals later in the frame with the empty net goal.

The Golden Knights record improves to 33-19-7 defeating the Maple Leafs 6-2 in Toronto. Vegas will continue their road trip on Thursday in Boston. Puck drop against Bruins is scheduled for 4 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: The Golden Knights played their best defensive game in quite some time. They limited the amount of time the Leafs spent in the O-Zone but also challenged absolutely everything Toronto did through the middle of the ice. Tons of blocks, plenty of broken-up passes, and excellent positioning frustrated Toronto and VGK’s offense eventually got it going. If VGK want to continue winning games with Stone and Eichel out, that’s the formula. (Analysis by Ken)

Golden Knights Fend Off Doubt In Toronto As Guentzel Rumors Heat Up

  1. Hockeydiva

YEAH nothing makes me happier than stopping the LEAFS WINNING STREAK YEAH

  2. Ice Warrior

I was at the home game where the Leafs kicked our butts 7-3. Nice to see the ass-kicking returned to them by the same margin.

  3. knights fan in minny

  4. Rashaad

William Karlsson is unbelievable!!! What a player!!!

  5. JB

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet revenge! This is what our boys can do when people say they can’t. Nice bounce back game for Hilly. Marchy gets maybe the longest tip in ever? Just so satisfying. Now can we repeat this effort in Boston!

  6. Pistol Pete

A good old fashioned fanny whacking is what that was. The Bruins are next!

  7. ThG

that should shut up the nattering nabobs of negativism on this board !

Hill = no. 1 star by far
    marchy no. 2 star
star no. 3 leafs coach for getting bounced with game MC, Classic !

    Game 59 Analysis, VGK 6, TOR 2

Great defense leads to offensive opportunities and the Golden Knights delivered. The team played great defense for 60 minutes and the Forward provided the support needed.

Excellent puck management. Only 1 major defensive breakdown that resulted in an embarrassing 2 on 1 with Reaves getting the goal.

Winning a game in this situation without Eichel and Stone was outstanding.

Next up, Boston Bruins who are tied for the lead league on points with 82. The Golden Knights reach 73 points with this win and are 9 points out of first and remain 3 points ahead of Edmonton. Nashville is on a winning streak with 6 in a row and have moved into the 2nd wild card spot ahead of the Blues.

There are 23 games left in the season. Win the 10 MW listed games and the VGK will end the season with 93 points. It’s too early to tell how many points we will need to secure a playoff spot, but 93 points may not be enough to get in as a wild card.

Whitecloud & Hague dropped to 16 minutes of ice time. You would figure they would have more than that…..if it continues the top 4 will burn out.

    • ThG

emmanuel, the coach has curtailed their ice time the last few games, saving energy for long haul is good plan.

the 4th line was excellent again, getting more than enough ice time to spell the other three lines

need line no. 1 to wake up now, hard to play them against team’s other no. 1 line as most of them are not no. 1 line material. Sad to say.

  10. Bobby

    Incredible. VGK is back!

  11. DeezNutz

The cup run was not a fluke

  12. Tim

To tell you the truth I was shocked I didn’t see us beating the high powered offense of Toronto especially how we’ve played lately. Hill had a great game that one goal off our skate was a fluke. I’m happy they won now another hurdle to jump Thursday in Boston. Eichel skating is a good sign now how do we handle our 9.5 million from Stone. Who comes and who goes it will be interesting.

  13. Pistol Pete

NSH joins LAK at 6 pts ahead of 3rd place STL in the WC race. This could bode well for the Blues dealing Buchnevich. They are said to be more likely to do it if they continue to move out of the playoffs picture.

  14. TS

Hey— our Championship team is BACK! Complete effort, from checking and ptotecting to scoring, the guys came not just to play, but to dominate. Loved the effort, great confidence builder! Good to see Reavo in action…

  15. JB

Had to pinch myself this morning and realize yes we did do that to the Leafs last night. Plus LA and Vancouver both lost! WithJack back soon, we are right at that point where we can put a big run on our division!

  16. The 4th line of Morelli Froese and Rempal threw more solid body checks last night than the entire VGK squad had done in the prior 10 games, 4th line is an energy line and that’s why when a healthy Carrier returns Roy must be reunited with Kolesar to form that best 4th line in hockey!!

    • Richie-Rich

A huge win for sure, but let’s not start talking about winning the Pacific Division just yet. Let’s just get healthy and lock in a good playoff seed. Win on Thursday against the Bruins in their barn and then we can talk.

    • knights fan in minny

      line 4 was real good

  17. I’m not a pie-in-the-sky dreamer to think we can win the division, that ship has effectively sailed, I just want to get our act together moving forward and gearing up for what I hope to be a deep playoff run!!

  18. Henderson Knights

The old familiar close checking version of the VGK was back, at least for one (k)night.

The 4th line showed the way, with unrelenting FORECHECK pressure and hustle. THAT is how you defend………. not standing around in the neutral zone and allowing the opponent to cruise through stationary mannequins in the NZ, and then rope a dope in the d zone.

THAT should be the identity of the Vgk….take the fight to the opponent….be proactive, not reactive…….don’t hang back and let them dictate the game.

    • Earl the Replanted Transplant

Have to agree, the HSK 4th line is definitely playing up. Full of hustle and determination. Good to see those guys putting on one heck of an audition. I am impressed with Morelli, his maturity as a 28 yo rook is showing. He seems to get himself into good positions in front of the net and it paid off last night. He learns from mistakes, and he definitely busted his butt with Rempal and Froese to make Toronto play a 200′ game.

    • TS

      HK, you got it right!

  19. Very well stated HK!!

  20. NAM

If anyone did their job to a T last night it was the 4th line. Don’t know the numbers, but every time I thought about it, when the 4th was out, so was TOR L1. HSK players against one of the elite lines in the league and VGK L4 was all over them. Plus they got a goal for their efforts. Pretty cool.

Great to see what the VGK ceiling (or at least near it) looks like. It has been a while. This is why we won the cup last year, not offensive play, but insane defense that leads to scoring. Love those big games like last night and EDM a couple weeks ago.

  21. Richie-Rich

I say Morelli over Cotter! What say you?

    • Earl the Replanted Transplant

Cotter is a great guy, but his confidence is lacking and it shows in his play. Part of his youth/immaturity. I am liking Morelli a lot and I think his play and confidence comes from his age/maturity. I hope they keep him around.

    • TS

RR, I really like what I see from Morelli, including his attitude. Big, mature pick. Cotter has had more than his share of chances, blown a lot of ’em…

    • NAM

Jury is still out. I do like Morelli’s play in general on L4. Would have to see him in an elevated role, like Cotter has been in, to say he belongs. For me Cotters biggest knock (literally) is he gets knocked off the puck just about any time he tries to carry with defenders around. He plays hard, but loses the puck often. Can Morelli do better with this or other areas with high level NHL linemates? Who knows. He is wavier exempt so we probably will never find out. The guy has good puck deflection instincts though.

  22. Earl the Replanted Transplant

Cotter is a great guy, but his confidence is lacking and it shows in his play. Part of his youth/immaturity. I am liking Morelli a lot and I think his play and confidence comes from his age/maturity. I hope they keep him around.

  23. vgk21

I would like to see them win at least 2 of the next 3 on the road. That would give them 77 pts and 20 games left.

a minimum record of 12-8 in those final 20 games would give them 101 pts and assure them of a playoff spot.

However, they likely will spend most of the playoffs on the road. So, that game last night was very important as a template of how to win on the road vs a playoff team.

  24. Bryce Alberts

As a VGK fan out of state in Ok has anyone else noticed the lack of Nat’l TV exposure to the reining SCC VGK? A great example would be last year’s, (and this years Super Bowl Champs) KC Chiefs. This past season they were on every NFL broadcast each week. Thurs nite, Sundays games, Sun nite, and MNF. I truly believe that Pittsburg and the NYC teams dominate the NHL TV exposure. I think here in Ok there have been about 7 VGK games that I have been able to watch on ESPN, TNT, Hulu, and the winter classic! Don’t want to pay streaming services, retired on fixed income!

    • TS

Bryce, I feel Western teams are alw

Often overlooked and under-rated. In all sports, not just Hockey. Except maybe the Dodgers.( yuck)…

  25. I also thought Brisson looked a little more engaged last night.. a little more noticeable.. of course playing with Marchy and Karly might have had something to do with that.
