VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 5 SEATTLE KRAKEN 4 (35-23-7, 77 PTS) – OT

Recap: The Golden Knights traveled north to Seattle for a Pacific Division matchup with the Kraken. Vegas committed two penalties in the opening frame but was able to kill off both. After 20 minutes the game was locked in a scoreless tie.

The home team took the opening lead 4:14 into the middle period. Two minutes later the Golden Knights evened the score on their second power play opportunity. Leading goal scorer Jonathan Marchessault tied the game with his 36th goal of 2023-24. Vegas took their first lead late in the period off Pavel Dorofeyev’s 9th of the season.

Leading 2-1, the Golden Knights were hoping to extend their lead on a man-advantage situation. Unfortunately, Seattle killed off their penalty and immediately tied the game. The Kraken would go on to score three unanswered goals, capturing a 4-2 advantage. William Karlsson kept the Golden Knights alive with his 23rd goal of the season. With time winding down, Marchessault forced overtime with his second goal of the contest. Deep into overtime, Karlsson flipped the puck to a driving Jack Eichel for the game-winning score.

The Golden Knights record improves to 35-23-7 defeating the Kraken 5-4 in overtime. Vegas will next hit the ice on Thursday night in Calgary. Puck drop against the Flames is scheduled for 6 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: In a matchup the Golden Knights have historically dominated, it wasn’t looking so great there late in the 3rd. The Kraken forecheck gave the Golden Knights trouble all night which helped them amass a two-goal lead with less than eight minutes to go. But, the Golden Knights dug in and rescued a point and then the game with a couple big goals by Misfits and then the game-winner from Eichel. (Analysis by Ken)

hopefully that exciting comeback win will propel the Vgk to a hot streak, and restore the confidence that was missing for 5 weeks.

  2. PJT

OMG! This is the best comeback game I’ve seen since day f*cking one.
Amazing to watch VGK claw back from a 4-2 deficit to tie it with 19 secs left.
And what a statement win in OT.
Flashes of a Stanley Cup winning team.

Game 65 Analysis VGK 5, SEA 4 OT

A championship-style win for the Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights.

For the 2nd straight game the Golden Knights had to wrest victory from the jaws of defeat and they did it with style and panache! The Knights let their opponent back up off the ice in the third period to tie the game and then take the lead 3-2 and then 4-2. With less than 30 seconds left on the clock Marchy gets a rebound and immediately puts it into the back of the net to tie the game and send it into OT. Hill stopped the one huge opportunity that the Kraken had in OT and Eichel put the game away on a breakaway pass from Pietrangelo.

An exciting win, but it would be better for our hearts if they could learn to take a lead, hold it and put teams away.

    Stars?
    #3 Eichel
#2 Karlsson/Dorofeyev great face off goal!
    #1 Marchy

With the win, the VGK improves to 35-23-7, 77pts, .592 winning percentage and +17 GF/GA. While tied with the Kings in points, they have 1 game in hand and hold a .602 winning percentage.

As a fan, I am looking forward to how this team will utilize Hertl when he comes off IR. Another power forward is going to make a huge difference. Mighty Marchy is RED HOT and all of the VGK stars are beginning to produce. Just in time, just in time! The hope is that retaking the 2nd seed isn’t quite yet completely out of the picture. Now wouldn’t that be nice!

  4. Pistol Pete

    PP’s “longshot” 101 pts (46-27-9) still alive!

    Need: 12-4-1

Becomes more doable with each successive win!

    11-4-2
    10-4-2
    etc.

  5. Pistol Pete

My man Pav responsible away from the puck: +7 season/+11 career,

    2023-24: 9 G/7 A (16 pts/31 games = .52 pts/game)

Cotter not very good away from the puck a certain measure of bad luck notwithstanding: -12 season/-14 career.

With Carrier’s return pending I am pretty sure Cotter will be the one to sit out. Sad to say.

    • JB

I agree. Cotter needs to sit when Will comes back. I thought we were toast after they scored three straight . HeyTS, that’s why you pull the goalie! :). What a comeback. Marchy on fire!

      • TS

Jb, HAHA!!It has worked a grand total of 2 times all season!! Maybe they’re FINALLY getting the hang of this ” no goalie” thing, huh??

  6. TS

Marchy=nerves of steal. Never give up.MVP when it counts!
Great last- minute comeback, after the shell-shock by the Kracken in the 3rd. The Boys kept their cool, didn’t play ” Fold- em Hockey tonight!!

    • TS

STEEL, not STEAL…although Marchy is pretty damn good at the STEAL, as well!

  7. Tim

We’ll take it we got a little lucky but we’ve had our share of bad luck so the worm has turned. Marchy and Karlsson still leading the way when there gone and the Misfits are no more an era will end sadly. Sure glad we kept the kids and mostly gave them draft picks like I said before the deadline our draft picks are basically useless. Pete aren’t you glad we didn’t trade Dorofeyev and whoever else you were suggesting we’d lose. Thank god management thought the way I was hoping they would. We get our #2 center which pushes everyone else back a notch to make the team stronger. Then Hannifin at 27 a good player replaces Martinez another great move. If Mantha gets inspired which I think he will we get 3 starters for some picks that probably wouldn’t work out anyway and die in the AHL.

  8. Bobby

Great f’ng comeback, exciting as hell to watch. Just cut down on the turnovers, not a good look for a Cassidy team or any team.

    • Great comeback however, they should never have landed up in that situation in the first place. Seattle out played Vegas a great deal of the time as three unanswered goals until Vegas became desperate is no way to always win games. They were lucky it all worked out in their favor. Great win but their play at a great deal of the time leaves plenty to be concerned about. Hopeful they can clean things up and keep it going.

  9. Vic

Could be the game that points the VGK in the right direction.
    *Hanifin good.
*Mantha looks like a confused lumberjack stuck in cement. No shots, no hits, nada.
*Losing faceoffs led to many of the goals. Hurry up Hertl.
    *Kolesar on the PK…Please no.
*Pavel D getting better with every game.
    *Thank you 71, 81 and 9 again.
*Hill needs to start stealing games again.

    • JB

I agree on Mantha. Not showing much right now. If he can get that first goal maybe that will ignite him?

    • knights fan in minny

      love it confused lumber jack

  10. ThG

    oh no
    more injuries ??

kolesar ? Whitcloud ? Latter only played 12 minutes, took hit to lower body, maybe aggravated injury against red wings when he went down ?

  11. ThG

watched the kraken broadcast, wow what a difference the TV announcer actually 1) told us what players were on the ice 2) gave a play by play account every second 3) didn’t bore us with inane facts 4) didn’t repeat the inane facts over and over . Kudos , good job to Kraken for putting a quality broadcast team together. Meanwhile VGK broadcast bored us with pics of washed up rock star from 40 years ago that had nothing at all to do with the game.

    • Jim

That is John Forslund, who used to do the Carolina telecasts for many years. He is the best, he is also does national telecasts as well. he was the #2 guy for NBC, and now is working for TNT and for Seattle.

He is a real play by play expert….and very knowledgeable.

      That’s hockey, baby.

  12. As it is known I am an optimist when it comes to VGK…last nights win was inspiring and exciting…BUT…. It didn’t mask our overall poor play.. from turnovers galore.. to for whatever reason Jack and others refusing to shoot and looking for the perfect saucer pass…shoot the puck.. spray and pray..almost nothing can go wrong if the puck heads toward the goal…id like to see us play a complete game against the reeling flames on Thursday… I would imagine Logan will be in net as it’s been a while since we’ve seen him.. he is a great teammate though always cheering the boys on!!

  13. Craigers NHL Team Driver

We have the Fire Power now let’s put the bisket in the basket. Last nite was the golden knights we have all become accustomed to.. Pavs has a hell of a shot. I agree Mantha looks out of place but give him some time. Had a good talk at CNA with Patrick Kane the other day and he told me he almost signed here in Vegas he still has it. Told me Towes may try a comeback next season.. I have NJ next up this weekend everyone be safe..

  14. Earl the Replanted Transplant

Kings lost to the Blues, let’s hope the VGK take back 3rd tomorrow. SHOTS!
