VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 3 PHILADELPHIA FLYERS 2 (15-6-9, 39 PTS) – OT

Recap: The Golden Knights got off to a quick start in Philadelphia. Defenseman Zach Whitecloud scored his first goal of the season to give Vegas an early 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later Philadelphia answered back to even the score 1-1 before the first intermission.

Vegas was awarded multiple power play opportunities in the second frame. Captain Mark Stone regained VGK’s lead on the PP with his fifth goal of 2025-26. Again, the Flyers tied the game before the break. After 40 minutes the game was locked in a 2-2 score.

Both teams traded chances, but neither could take a lead forcing the game to be settled in overtime. Mark Stone ended the game of a beautiful feed from Jack Eichel.

The Golden Knights record improves to 15-6-9 defeating the Flyers 3-2 in OT. Next up, Vegas will finish their road trip on Saturday in Columbus. Puck drop against the Blue Jackets is scheduled for 4 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: VGK scored first for the 5th straight game and held leads two different times but they can’t seem to find a way to out and grab these games. They are continuing this trend of playing coin flip games pretty much every night. Though, with Stone in the lineup, they do seem to find ways to win more of them. (Analysis by Ken)

3-0-1 points in all the first four games into this five game trip. GKG!

Points pace 39/30 X 82 =106.6 those OTL points really add up!

    • Pistol Pete

Ducks lose so we’re back on top with a game in hand. Six reg losses compared to their eleven so you see the OTL points really do add up! There may be those who point to our “.500 15-15” record but I’ll take the points and first place all day long!

Yea, as I have preached, I look at OT games as points. 1 or 2 it’s all good. I am getting concerned that we are having problems holding a lead. But the 7 points in four games on the road, I’ll take that!

    • Pistol Pete

I’ll exchange .reg losses for OTL’s all day long.

      Fewest reg losses:
      COL : 2
      DAL: 6
      VGK: 6

Brutal defensive game (those are the best kind!), reminded me of the mid-90s low scoring era.

Phlyers have young talent but the “hockey sense” is not there, especilly Drysdale, he made a lot of low % plays. They gotta upgrade from Vladar, he had a good game though.

I went to the VGK morning skate the day before Thanksgiving. It was Mark Stone’s first day back on the ice with his teammates. Stone and Eichel were successfully running that play over and over. It was awesome. I was not surprised to see that happen in OT tongiht!

  5. Pistol Pete

This is what a mere six reg losses buys you (a decent P%).

    1. COL (.823)
    2. DAL (.734)
    3. CAR (.667)
    4. VGK (.650)

Not too shabby if you ask me. Those OTL points really add up!

Time for multi-goal game for Mitch on Saturday. He does get them: 28 in his career including three hat tricks.

Eichel by contrast has 45 career multi-goal games including five hat tricks.

Where Marner really super duper shines is assists. He has 65 per 82 games compared to Jack’s excellent 50.

I realize with us Marner’s had but one highlight reeler (more are on the way) but remember that was the one where Cassidy described his hands as sick! Marner, Eichel and Stone: three point a game players on the same roster! Ok Mitch is actually one point under with us but we all know what we are talking about.

Not long ago many of us were ready to throw the towel in on Mark Stone. Pretty presumptuous on our part. Sure, he missed some time this year already but if you are watching closely as I have been the Captain seems to be a bit faster on his skates and he is so much better on the PP down low than anyone else on this team. 14 games, 14 points! That pass from Eichel to Stone in OT for the game winner was a masterpiece.

Things can only get better when Wild Bill returns. Brett Howden looks solid as well.

The big question is what will they do when Hill comes off IR? I hope that they don’t trade Schmid.

    • Pistol Pete

Absolutely R-R Stone does look faster and so does Hertl. Sports medicine plays more and more a part these days?

When Karlsson returns I see scratching Sissons for Howden at 4C as an option however we need to consider Sissons is a regular on the PK where arguably he has been more an asset than 5 on 5.

There are a lot of options:

      Howden-Sissons-Kolesar for example.

Perhaps Smith-Karlsson-Bowman leaving Barbashev, Eichel, Stone, Marner, Hertl and Dorofeyev in the top six. Bowman has been very decent but let’s face he’s there because Karlsson is out. Stone or Marner would be way more impactful with Eichel. Credit to Bowman for cutting his teeth though, he’s a keeper.

When Karly comes back, it will be a nice problem to have. BUT… Cassidy had better get the line combos right if we are going to maximize our potential. I like the two older guys (Smith and Saad), but I think they are going to be relegated to occasional spot play. The rest of the lineup will be smokin’ if Cassidy gets the combos right.

    • TS

I also think Stone has picked up his speed.
His uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time still amazes me!

      • TS

Yes, ditto on Hertl and HIS speed
. Hertl is also a natural leader, the young guns look up to him.

  9. trade

I will just regurgitate my post from 46 days ago.
    it looks even better today.

    trade
Stone is key to the PP, and key to the strength and balance of the top 2 lines, and key to Jack Eichel, and key to Vgk leadership.

Eichel & Stone are the 2 guys they cant afford to lose, but I think Eichel is more important cause for the first time in a long time VGK is kinda meh at C, they are stacked so much at RW they got some guys playing at LW.

You are right about Stone, most unheralded star in the NHL?
