The Senators scored three goals in the middle period to give them a 4-0 advantage after 40 minutes played.

Ottawa continued to pour it on with three more goals in the final frame. Rasmus Andersson scored his first goal as a Golden Knight to break the shutout.

The Golden Knights’ record drops to 25-14-12 falling to the Senators 7-1 in Ottawa. Next up, Vegas will wrap up their road trip on Tuesday in Montreal. Puck drop against the Canadiens is scheduled for 4PM PT.(Recap by Jason)

Analysis: Complete and utter disaster from the start for VGK. They had a few chances, including a penalty shot and a 5-on-3 in the 1st period, but literally the rest of the game was terrible. Outskated, outsticked, outworked, outgoaltended, outplayed in every single way. One of the most pathetic games in franchise history. (Analysis by Ken)

Stop Scapegoating Adin Hill

Vgk motto= “a Hill to die on”

Schmid has been the only reliable goalie all season, but now they basically are telling him to go sit at the end of the bench kid, and now watch our 6 million dollar man take over.

    big effin mistake,,, bigtime

    • Emmanuel

We gotta hook Hill up with Jamie Sommers, maybe that will improve his game.

    • NAM

Goal tending got much better in the last few minutes of the game, when the goal post stopped a few shots.

  2. Pistol Pete

Well at least our new D got us on the board to avoid the worst SO in team history. Is that not tied for worst goal margin loss in team history tied with the 6-0 loss to Utah last year? Who saw this coming? Letdown following the emotional win over Toronto? Who knows but pretty awful. Something tells me

fans have seen enough of Adin Hill lol. We’ll see what Cassidy has to say about the goaltending. Most of the goals against were the bottom six forwards except Hertl -1 who probably caught on a line change.

Larry the Smith at center experiment may have just come to an end!

Anyway folks let’s just move on to MTL!

    Wrong Ken:

“falling to the Senators 7-0 in Ottawa”

  3. TS

Ken’s analysis pretty much says it all.
We looked tired, slow– Road- weary, maybe? Really physical game. The Ottowa Goalie was a brick wall! Impenetrable!
    Worst showing this season…

  4. vgk21

7 goals, 4 posts, and 2 called back. and a partridge in a pear tree.

against a team that was floundering lately, a team that they have beaten regularly, and a minor league goalie.

one of the low points in 9 seasons, for sure.

  5. Canada

Only positives Andersson was solid . Wont be long before he is 1st line d . Maybe this will put Hill on the bench intil he wakes up . Cant help but think that Cassidy didnt pull him to make a point . BRUTAL 4 goalpost it could have been 10 -1 . Our guys wont bust their humps for a guy that gets scored on 1 in three shots. No they weren’t all his fault but enough get him out of there.

    • TS

Canada, I was dumbfounded that Cassidy didn’t pull Hill even in the 2nd period, but he kept him in til the end! I just don’t get it.

      • Canada

I really think Cassidy wanted to bury him . What else could it be

        • TS

Canada, Could very well be. Cassidy must realize Hill is a liability for the team at this point in the season. And HIS( Cassidy’s) job as coach could be affected, too..losses don’t sit well with Mgmt…

  8. They did their best to stink up the place and succeeded in spades. Vegas goalies in general are only as good as the team in front of them and that team didn’t show up this evening. You could say they may as well of stayed on the bus. Time to flush this one and get their shit together for Tuesday evening. Onward and upward. Overall, a pathetic performance and that is being kind.

Game 51 Analysis at 17:00 of the 3rd.

You cannot take Hill out of the word “Achilles”.

I turned this shit off at the 17 minute mark. Ken’s description is spot on and there’s no need to pile on any additional analysis.

    Observations:
-1 Was Amadio smiling just a bit too much?
-2 Is it just me or is Hill looking more and more like Lehner in the manatee position flopping around on the ice?
-3 Might the game be a bit different had Marner scored on the penalty shot?

    • TS

RR, Haha, punny!! I watched more of the Football playoff game than the disappointing VGK game. Hard to watch.

    • RR, in order to have a chance to score on a penalty shot( or a shootout for that matter), said player needs to maintain possession of the puck on his stick, before the actual process of shooting the puck on net, to attempt to beat the goalie , and put the puck across the goal line.

      • for a guy who stick handles so well and thru traffic to seemingly always lose the puck with shootouts and now a penalty shot is just bizarre

      • TS

Larry, Chuckles!! I’ve seen SO fumbles all season! Is it nerves?. Losing sight of the puck/ and/ or the net? Just plain carelessness? Is it contagious?? How the fudge do you lose the damn PUCK?. And with a clear shot, no challenge??? Maddening!!

        • TS, excellent questions you ask, now all we need are the excellent answers by way of performance by said players, we can always have eternal hope!

    • RR – no sense in sugar coating it – Hill is another walrus and just as useless as Lehner was. I remember well the FO selling everyone who would listen that Lehner was elite – dream on elite alright that why everywhere he had been where happy to pond him off to Vegas. Extending Hill falls into the same category – a total joke – FO slow learners apparently.

      • Richie-Rich

I have said this consistently. This front office is extremely weak, for some reason, when it comes to managing the goal tending position. Someone said it in another post. The FO is great at building the team and keeping it competitive through trades, but it simply hasn’t been working for the G position. He’s right. Back up goalies are backup for a reason and you’re not going to get an elite 1A through a trade. The FO rolled the dice on Lehner. Hill had a great run several years ago and won the Cup, but he has regressed back to his back up performance. Logan Thompson was the goal tender that the FO believed in and invested in, but we now know how that worked out. Now we have Schmid, Lindbom and Carter Hart. Carter Hart is another FO gamble in my opinion.

Since I think I am better at goal tender management, as a fan I would make Schmid #1 and let Hart and Lindbom fight it out for #2. I would give Lindbom the edge at this particular point.

PP? I am sure you won’t agree because you have so much faith in the FO. That is unwarranted when it comes to the G position. I actually think they are trying to rush an injured Hill too fast back into the lineup. He clearly has limited mobility. I’d put him back on IR and then give him a test in Henderson before bringing him back up.

What a way to spoil an afternoon game..
No excuse in this game the Knights seemed to play on soupy ice, shaky legs, wretched passing, soft as hell

  11. knights fan in minny

Pitiful Performance Hill could not stop a beach ball if his life depended on it

  12. DL

Hill appears to be morphing into another Lehner.

  13. JB

What a sh@tshow! Yes Pete Ken was right on. HOW can a team play great game vs Leafs, and come back with THAT? Just sickening! Hill is worthless right now. If they can they should park his ass in Hendersonville and see if he can work out his problems!

  14. Leonard Wise

You could tell after 3 minutes that this team didn’t come to play. How many times can you say it. I don’t like the Cassidys explanations any more. He sounds as casual as his team. As for Hill he’s been getting worse every year. Never should have started him. If you remember the year we didn’t make the playoffs they kept playing him and he kept losing. Finally went back to Thompson and almost got us in. He needs to go down an either fix his game and conditioning or he needs to go. Management needs to find out why this keeps happening and fix it. I expect them to play better in Montreal since they are actually a good team and if they play like this will be embarrassed even more. I still think they lose a close one since Montreal is playing better. Only bright spot is Anderson goal.

  15. Tim

I just commented but it didn’t get posted surprise. Basically I said pride is something this team doesn’t have. Lets kick back until the playoffs save our energy. The could give a shit less I’m so glad baseball is close my Guardians go 100% every game win or lose not like these prima donna’s. A loser mentality will bite you in the ass every time. Hockey is what it is a small loyal group that will just roll along and take all the abuse from these losers.

  16. Ruthless babe

the Vgk reportedly held a meeting after the game, and they are promising the fans that from now on they will show some emotion at least once every other game.

And Hill says that he will bring a beach ball next time so he has something to stop.

    • TS

Ruthless: Hilarious! Gotta have a sense of humor or else our heads would explode!
It’s only a GAME, after all!!

  17. Vic

    Nothing worth saying besides horrible.

  18. Barb

I’ve had days when absolutely nothing goes right but how can 22 professional hockey players all have a bad game on the same night?
I didn’t count Andersson cause he at least scored a goal.

    • TS

Barb, THAT is the question, isn’t it? Is mediocrity infectious?? If so, where is the damn CURE???
Hypnosis! Spock mind- meld! More Prevagen! Something, ANYTHING!!!

  19. There’s really nothing good that can be said about this performance, so I will adhere to the piece of advice all mothers have stated ‘ if you have nothing good to say, then don’t say anything at all’

    Sorry, couldn’t help myself:

It was only 1 game, let it go and move on, the only problem is it was only 1 game against the bruins as well, only 1 game against a myriad of teams as well, but I’ll let it go and see how they perform against a good, young and fast Montreal team on Tuesday, it will be a good barometer at the end of the road trip.

    • Pistol Pete

Larry sort of doubt these AHL’ers are happening except Bowman; Rondbjerg, Lacyznski, and Reinhardt. Reinhardt for Holtz maybe. Holtz has more talent than Reinhardt imo it’s the attitude part he struggles with. I know you have no faith in Saad but honestly we will be better off with Howden, Saad and Sissons back than Rondbjerg and Lacynski. Rondbjerg can just never really score. At least Saad can skate fast, forecheck and defend.

Looks like Smith at center is not happening. These guys filling in in the bottom six were all horrible this game in goals against. Smith should be wing on a Marner or Hertl line.

      Barbashev-Eichel-Stone
      Smith-Marner-Dorofeyev
      Bowman-Hertl-Kolesar
      AHL’ers

Really need Howden, Sissons and Saad back in. I would put Howden on the Hertl line and move
Bowman down. If Saad stays out that is fine but once he can play I would expect Cassidy to put him back in to start with.

      • Holtz is trying to impress the coaching staff by taking the body on occasion, and Reinhardt is young with a really good motor, it would help their confidence greatly if they could actually take advantage of their limited prime scoring opportunities.

I agree we definitely need Howden back, and Sissons had actually started being a positive on the 4th line and does contribute on the PK, perhaps after the break they will all be back, and maybe a belated Christmas present in William Karlsson as well, after all it will be hockey in the Olympics, so maybe a ‘Do you believe in miracles’ moment.

  20. Richie-Rich

    Note to the SinBin FanBase:

Jack’s former team is now a point ahead of us in the NHL standings.

  21. Richie-Rich

I think the SinBin Forum should start coming to the realization that the team has a goaltending problem, not a defensive skater problem.

VGK is currently 30th in the NHL with a .877 team save percentage ahead of only Florida and Ottawa (who just kicked their teeth in). According to the ESPN article grading the Andersson trade, prior to the trade VGK was giving up the fewest shots/60 min, 2nd fewest high danger shots/60 min, and the 9th fewest scoring chances/60 min. Put it all together and it’s obviously a goalie problem not a D problem.

GMKM’s problem is top tier goalies in their prime don’t become available like top tier skaters. I don’t think GMKM knows how to do anything but add via trade (which he’s admittedly been good at overall), but goalie is rarely a trade fix and more often a development fix. I’m just not sure GMKM has the patience to wait for a goalie to develop.

Hill helped VGK win a cup, but isn’t worth $6.5 million. Schmid has been the best goalie by production vs salary, but he’s also mid.

I’m praying that Lindbom develops and pushes for an NHL roster spot by the end of the season so VGK can offload Hill’s contract. All credit to what he did for the organization but I want his money available to make it possible to sign Pavel AND Andersson to long term deals.

    • Vic

I agree. We traded for and signed many good players, but mgmt thought they were set in net. Someone like Gibson would have fit it well, and now he is helping the Wings look good. The goalie problem will nuke the team in the playoffs when a hot goalie is mandatory. Someone needs to step up now.

  22. Jose

I’m not that bothered by yesterday’s game. Shit like that usually happens once or twice a year to every team. I still maintain what I have been saying all along. I don’t think these guys are an elite contender for the cup meaning not one of the best five or six teams in the league. I love this team and think they are very good team, somewhere in the 7 to 12 range among the 32 teams.

Goal prevention is still an issue. I was at the Toronto game and I had a blast.

  23. Rrale

I agree with above comments on the teams and Hills play (or lack of it). Hill was out of position several times. Even the game against Toronto he did his usual and let in two soft goals. Perhaps it is time for Hill to take a personal leave of absence (think Ullmark)? I do not believe the FO will look for another goalie as they honestly believe Hill is the man. Remember this is the front office that traded away better goalies (Fleury and Thompson) to keep an inferior one (Lehner and Hill).

    • TS

Hill gets out of position a lot, it seems
He’s often scrambling to get back in net, after the sideways slides out of the crease. Often on his back or rolling around trying to get back up. Is he just clumsy?
