Analysis: After allowing a goal on the first shot for the second game in a Golden Knights were all over the Predator net for the rest of the 1st period. It didn’t amount to anything despite 20 shots and it was a sign of bad things to come. NSH’s special teams outclassed VGK in the middle frame and it was a wrap from there. (Analysis by Ken)

    Pathetic. Nothing else to say

    • Jerry

Season is over. It’s been tough watching all season. But playoff chance okay. After 11: 55 in the 2nd and eichel and cassidy start arguing. It’s over. We still might make the playoffs. But won’t last long after that 11:55 in the 2nd. Team seemed divided.

  2. knights fan in minny

Absolute disaster This team has no heart Best thing for this team is not to make the playoffs I don’t know how Butch makes it the rest of the year It’s gonna be a long hot summer in Sin City

    • Cassidy is not the problem – he is faced with a bunch of overpaid, no heart players. Once the first period was over and they couldn’t find the back of the net they were done. It was painful to watch second and third. Nine periods of shit shows and one goal – truly an outstanding effort (LOL) – they should be ashamed; the unfortunate thing is one has to wonder if they are. During much of the season when behind they were capable of at least getting a tie – that appears to have vanished and just going thru the motions. Sad state of affairs. Haven’t seen PPete’s optimist observations of the situation.

      • TS

Agreed! I also hv been saying this all year: Cassidy cannot PLAY for these hugely- paid PROS. These guys KNOW how to play, how to win, but if they keep opening doors for other teams to dominate, THIS is what they get!! If Coach COULD play for them, he WOULD!!
I keep wondering why fans blame the Coach, when it’s the PLAYERS who either play to win, or play to lose!!
Cassidy coached a CUP team in 23….he clearly knows how to coach, to win.
But if these players lay back, letting other teams run up.the score, esp. EARLY in games, what do they expect?? Is THAT Cassidy’s fault??
Easy to blame the coach, when we all watch the failures from the players game after game…
Plus: he doesn’t hire these players. Mgmt DOES. Coach can only work with the hand he’s given. He can’t trade the problems away. Or force better play from them..
. He has worked all season to find the answers, the right lines, the winning formula with this ever- changing roster. So many changes this season, so many new pieces, injuries, etc….
My conclusion: We can’t win if the Players don’t want it bad enough!!!!

        .

        • knights fan in minny

I agree with what you say Ts I think I Butch Is a very good coach It has always been you can’t get rid of 23 players so the coach usually takes the fall like I said Yesterday the best thing for this team is to miss the playoffs Then a lot of them will have to look in the mirror I think there will be a lot of turnover this summer

          • TS

Kfim, i also kinda hope we miss the Playoffs. No sense in being crushed in the 1st round by a Top Tier team. .. it would just be an embarrassing finish to a lousy losing season. It may be best if they sit this one out, and take time to figure out WHY their season was so subpar.
But if mgmt fires Cassidy over it, then i’m out as a fan
. Another DeBoer kind of coach would seal the VGK coffin. More of the same, poor Mgmt decisions will.surely bury us next season.
Man, am.i discouraged right now. Hard to.be positive, when the SHIT is hitting the fan on a regular basis!!
I’m.going to the game vs Caps on Saturday— hope the stands aren’t empty. Hope fans don’t start to Boo our guys.Hope they wake up and play a complete game. Hope is free, but Tix are NOT. So many season tix holders must be having buyers remorse!

  3. rb7

    Season over.
    let the firings begin.

If LA wins, they will be 2 pts behind Vgk with a game in hand. and if SJ wins, they will be 4 pts behind Vgk with 2 games in hand.

iow, the Vgk are right on the cusp of missing the playoffs, and their pathetic performance of late points to doom and gloom.

    • Emmanuel

Looks like all the Pac teams lost today.
Both WC’s are now from the Central.

    Game Over….famous last words

  6. JB

When you outshoot them by that much and just one goes in, it just might not be your year. I’ll be honest, I’m really tired of watching the Knights games. I watch a lot of other games and there is just no comparison on how these other teams play. I’m ready to watch playoff games that have teams who give a shit! I’m so disappointed !

  7. rb7

they can’t score, can’t stop the puck, can’t play 60 minutes, but oh baby can they ever play perimeter hockey.

iow, they are soft in front of the opposing goalie, and also soft in front of their own net too.

and shooting low and right into the pads of the opposing goalie is just a losing proposition when you have no rebound scoring from anyone.

  8. DeezNutz

    Fire the skills coach

    • TS

Do they even HAVE a skills coach???? Cause i’m not seeing any SKILLS….

  9. vgk21

the 3 stars of the game were the buzzer after period 1,
    and period 2
and final horn gets star #1

C’mon, call up Lindbom and Connelly. look to the future, and develop tomorrow.

    • Henderson's Finest

Don’t call them up. Henderson is in a playoff hunt.

    • VGK do not have enough cap space to do this. They cannot send anyone on the roster to the AHL aside from Bowman.

      • Tim

Ken I just commented on my thoughts on the Anderson trade. Do you have an opinion on the trade.

      • vgk21

designate Lindbom as the EBUG, and then have Hill and Schmid day to day with upset tummies.

certainly the fans stomachs are upset.

      • Duckboy

Another sign of mismanagement by the FO

They need a reset as they have officially ran this into the ground.

        Fire mccriminal

      • KEN, is every player under contract fully guaranteed to receive their salary and count against the salary cap?

Why is it not possible to simply release a player and have his future money owed removed from the ledger?

It seems crazy to be hamstrung to such a degree to not being able to promote someone from your minor league team, and send down another player and/or expose him to the waiver wire.

        • Yes, all contracts in the NHL are fully guaranteed. If VGK terminate the contract of a player, their cap hit remains on the cap, and thus it will cost at least $775k against the cap to call someone else up.

          • Appreciate the responses, I guess it’s all part and parcel of the CBA agreement to fully protect the players, while unfortunately helping to limit a team from making moves to improve themselves.

        • Brian

It’s all part of the Salary Cap rules. VGK can release a player, but the money counts against the Salary cap. Contract are full guaranteed.

  10. Tim

Now here’s the real kick in the ass. To get Anderson we gave up our first round draft pick this year so if we don’t make the playoffs we would have been in the lottery now we won’t. Whitecloud maybe a lottery pick and a second for Anderson next year. Who in there right mind would make that deal. Yes the heads will roll and included is half the dead weight on the team. We need an offensive minded coach to put some excitement back in the game from a fans perspective.

    • Duckboy

How did they not fire mccriminal after this deal?

It’s better let Anderson walk because signing him to a 7mill a year contract would be absolutely worse.

      Time to start over.

  11. Jose

They’re still very likely to make the playoffs. Obviously by favourable circumstances.

Maybe they will figure it out soon.

But they definitely suck right now and don’t deserve to be in the playoffs, nobody in the pacific deserves it.

    • Emmanuel

Everyone in the Pac is worse & Anaheim has a terrible goal differential.

  12. Stu Cohen

This team has no heart. This year is lost whether they sneak in to playoffs or not. What will happen next year? As it stands Hill will be overpaid next year as well, and for too many years.
The front office has made constant failures, and it seems they all revolve around Goalies.
How did this team, who broke so many offensive records during their Stanley Cup run to a team who can’t score with 2 of the greatest players.
Every fan seems at a loss for words.

  13. Walt

    Vgk game plan=

hey, Pacific division, we are a terrible clown show right now, but you guys are just as bad as we are.
    so,,,, na,na,hey,hey
    goodbye

    • Walt

      Buffalo beats LA 4-1
      Philly 4-1 over SJ
      Cbj 4-2 over Seattle

so, I guess my post above was right on the money

      • Emmanuel

        Worst division in NHL history?
Anaheim is the only team w/a good chance of winning 42 games!

  14. Rob S.

In the aftermath of this fiasco of a season, I fully expect the front office to make the coach the scapegoat. I have two observations: 1) I don’t think our coach has all of a sudden forgotten how to coach and 2) who are you going to get that’s any better?

The real question is does the Creator have the stones to “retire” the President of Hockey Operations and fire the GM responsible for putting this clown show of a roster together, while mortgaging what was left of our future and, arguably, mismanaging the cap in the process?

    • SHS

We are not going to get a coach as good as Cassidy, but I agree we are going to go get a new coach anyway. For some reason, Cassidy has lost the team and has no answers for how to turn things around. This roster should certainly be much better than they have been playing and Cassidy knows this. But he also knows that they have quit on him and he can’t do anything about it. The front office knows it too. So the axe will fall on Butch. What a shame…

      • They haven’t quit on Cassidy they have quit on themselves. It’s so obvious they can’t wait to get off the ice. They are big boys and need to step up and accept responsibility for their shit attitude and play. Way overpaid and definitely not coming close to they are being paid to do. I have a question for those that think there is some magic pin a coach can inject to change things – please tell he and the rest of the world what that is.

    • Here’s hoping the creator has the balls to do what’s necessary. He didn’t accumulate millions sitting on his hands – time to step up and end this disaster. Mccrimmon needs to go immediately for a start and work from there. His actions dismantled a winning team – acquiring some over paid premedonnas who lack heart, maybe shill but definitely not a winning attitude.

      • JB

I’m telling ya that the Olympics dreams of the players changed this entire season. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the games in the Olympics. They were great, but, it seems to me that was the main goal of a lot of the elite players this year not the cup, especially the American players, but Canadians as well. Many teams that made the playoffs last year, are not making it in this year, and most of those teams have Olympic players on them. It’s crazy!

  15. vgk21

the Buffalo turnaround began when they fired the GM in mid season.

notice, they did not fire Lindy Ruff the coach. no, they finally put the blame where it belonged. and voila, they became the team it took 14 years to remove the losing culture from.

    • vkg21 you have been reading my posts apparently. Not a popular position but the facts are the facts. Like you indicated in so many words – Cassidy is not the issue – Buffalo placed the blame truly where it belonged and that problem here in Vegas is McCrimmon.

    • Ts

      There you go, people!!
      Buffalo fixed their team
      .
No coach was fired doing.their jobs..
Mgmt was NOT doing THEIR jobs. GM.was fired….

  16. JB

I like Butch. I think he is one of the top coaches . But I also think the team doesn’t listen to him anymore. If they do replace him, they need to get someone firey who like offense and tuffness. As fans we need more than just winning a game. We need fun and entertainment. More goals, scrums, fights when needed. Just need more!

  17. Nick D

Remember our first year. A group of castaways who named themselves the Misfits. They played with Heart and Soul, with Grit and to Prove a point to all the Doubters. We proved we didn’t need the shiny new toy they proved with determination and hard work they could win and damn if they almost didn’t pull it off. We did pull it off in 23 winning the cup but since then UGH….

The team we have today has none of the traits of our first ever misfits.
Everyone says they are slow and play with no sense of urgency and it’s showing. Horrible contracts, horrible trades and lack of enthusiasm makes it like watching paint dry on the ceiling. Hell even Disney on Ice has more excitement than a VGK Game..

  18. Jose

42 comments and none from Pistol Pete. The most optimistic person in the world can’t find anything good to say. Is this rock bottom?

Well I will try. Here it is………..

This is the most dogshit team they have ever had but they play in the Pacific Division. Playing in the Pacific division is literally the ONLY thing they have going for them.

    • TS

I think PP has decided that if he can’t say something positive, it’s best to say nothing at all.
      And here we are.

  19. Richie-Rich

The Golden Knights had a great run from year 1 to 6. Aggressively seeking the new shiny toys while trading away top picks and players that fit into the Cassidy system has finally caught up to the front office. I think Tampa Bay is the go to template for minimizing Coach and Roster chaos. Trying to buy championships worked great in the old days of baseball, it’s a recipe for one and done in the NHL today.

Overspending on the top 6 has the VGK looking like Edmonton. Top heavy with lackluster defense and goaltending. What McCrimmon has done is simply copied the Edmonton roster management template and put it to use here in Vegas. The only difference is that Jack Eichel isn’t even on the same playing level as McDavid.

Also, take a look at Edmonton. Any major injury to a player in their top 6 can be a season ending blow.

Blow sounds like Go, and it is time for GMKM to GO!

    #4 cannot be signed.

    – Bring up players next year and start rebuilding while Eichel & Marner are still young enough to make a difference in the next 1 to 3 years.

-The goaltending situation is dire. Carter Hart is likely the only option for the future at this point.

-McNabb is almost at the end of his stellar career. A solid stay at home defenseman who doesn’t have the defensive player next to him that worked. Getting rid of Zach Whitecloud was a major mistake. But, I do love Rasmus’ opposing fan stare downs. If he was scoring a lot more goals it might be worth the price of a ticket.

    • Emmanuel

I gotta respectfully disagree on some points.

If “one and done” means winning a Cup ill take it!
Lotsa fans follow teams that have never won.

I think Rasmus is tweener #1/#2, hes DEFINATELY one of the top 64 NHL D.
Regardless of assets used to being him here, seeing him walk opens up cap $.
So im OK w/letting him walk, especially if you factor his age.

Exactly who is going to be brought up? Connelly is a solid prospect but there are no other Top 6 F/Top 3 D in Henderson.

Hart has had a grand total of ONE good season years ago.
The fans/front office think theyve found a diamond in the rough.
30 teams had no interest in him (as far as ive read) not just for off ice ‘issues’
but because his caliber of G is plentiful. hes a backup AT BEST.

Whitecloud is a 29YO 4/5/6 D who doesnt even have 400 NHL games under his belt. His appeal to GMs is that hes got a low salary.

      • TS

I miss Whitecloud, but his level of play had dimished. It was time to trade..hate to say that, but i have eyes…

      • Even if Andersson should fall into this category of top 64 defenseman, there is no way a general manager should send a competent 3rd pair defenseman along with a first and second rounder to acquire such a player, and one who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of his contract. And his play on the ice simply suggests he should not be signed, as he would further weigh down an already bloated highly salaried crew, but knowing KMGM he will sign him shortly before he is asked to pack his belongings and to clear his desk.

        • Emmanuel

I wouldnt give Rasmus more than 4Y@6.5$.
Its probably his ladt contract hes gonna want more….cant blame him.

          • knights fan in minny

Did you hear that one big E if you’re watching the game on NHL Network the Dallas guys between periods call the Pacific Division the Pillow Fight Division Can’t say he’s wrong A pillow fighting

          • I will root for him to get as much money as he possibly can as long as it is not in a VGK uniform.
