NASHVILLE PREDATORS 3 VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 2 (48-22-7, 103 PTS) – OT

Recap: The Golden Knights traveled to Music City for a matchup with the Nashville Predators. Nashville got off to a quick start scoring the game’s first two goals. The Predators had a third goal called back but carried a 2-0 advantage into the 1st intermission.

Six minutes into the 2nd period Alex Pietrangelo cut the Predators’ lead in half with his 10th goal of 2022-23. The veteran defenseman later tied the contest, shooting a dart into Nashville’s net.

Tied 2-2, Vegas heavily pressured Nashville in the final frame but the Golden Knights couldn’t snap the tie. For the second straight game, VGK needed overtime to decide a victor. After being awarded a power play, the Predators took advantage and the first draft pick in VGK history, Cody Glass, sealed the game.

The Golden Knights’ record drops to 47-22-8 falling to the Predators 3-2 in overtime. Next, Vegas will head home for an important divisional game with the LA Kings. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM on Thursday. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: The 1st period was a bit of a nightmare in all areas aside from attacking in the offensive zone for the Golden Knights. However, what they did well carried over to the final 40 and they picked up the rest of the game after going behind by two. After a bunch of games in which they didn’t play great but won, this is one where they did and didn’t. Special teams were a problem. (Analysis by Ken)

Exactly the kind of game I expected. We had plenty of scoring chances just couldn’t get that 3rd goal. But again, got a point that could be big. Oilers/Kings playing right now. If Kings win that, then Thursday will be for first place.

  2. Pistol Pete

    3-1-0 = record 110 pts
    4-0-0 = record 52 wins

Quick will somehow allow 3 or more a game in this the twilight of his career however in fairness the OT goal was out of his control. Not sure about the first two.

Have not watched the game yet but it’s my understanding Pav began on the third line and got moved up to the first which is what I was calling for. He was on the ice for the first NSH goal and both Vegas goals so he finished the night +1 with two shots. Not sure if he helped set Eichel up for any of his five shots. Marchy also had two shots. Would like to see Pav continue with Eichel and Marchy in part because it makes sense to move Barbashev down but also just because I think his offensive upside is even higher playing up. I’ll say it again: that OT goal looked every bit the top line winger Pav is going to be.

    • Pistol Pete

Meant to add when Pav was on the ice for the first NSH goal it looked in the stats like he was with Stephenson and Kessel.

  3. Pistol Pete

Personally if keeping Pav up on the first line, I would move Roy down from the Karlsson line to 3C and bring Stephenson up to RW on the Karlsson line. Roy is better at center. Barbashev-Roy-Kessel should work well.

  4. Pistol Pete

    Dorofeyev-Eichel-Stone
    Smith-Karlsson-Marchessault
    Barbashev-Roy- Kessel
    xxxx-Bleuger-xxxx

xxxx = Carrier (next season), Howden, Amadio, Kolesar, Cotter

    • Pistol Pete

Forgot Stephenson. How dumb of me lol. Some would call for Stephenson on the top line like before Stone was injured and that could make sense. Then Pav would get moved down to the third or fourth. We’ll see how Pav finishes out these last four games and how he does if with Eichel and Marchy. With Stone back if Pav has earned his spot with Eichel, Stephenson could end up a winger on the third with Barbashev and Bleuger on the fourth. I am very aware of the fact that Pav on the top line could very well fit better next season than for the playoffs this season. We’ll see how the last four games go,.

  5. Jose

I can live with the result. They dominated for large parts of the game and did mostly everything right tonight. They just couldn’t convert on the two-man advantage power-play. Let’s hope that the kings and oilers don’t play at three point game. Can’t win them all and the predators are a desperate team fighting for their playoff lives.

    • TS

Jose, I just could not believe the 2 man advantage was a ZERO …not only couldn’t they score, but they had trouble even maintaining control of the puck during the PP. What is so mysterious about this elusive PP?? I mean, HIT the PUCK into the NET. NOT rocket science!!
I think coach needs some JEDI persuasion, here…Maybe a hypnosis session! SOMETHING, ANYTHING!

  6. DL

Ken, you got the wrong record and points all over the place.

    • Pistol Pete

You are right it’s 104 points not 103. Need EDM to beat the Kings which would put LA four points back heading into Thursday and the Oilers would still be three back. The point Vegas got tonight could be critical.

  7. Bobby

At least one point, that’s big. Head home and get ready for Thursday. On a completely unrelated note, I turned my AT&T Sportsnet channel to the Utah Jazz game, I notice they still play ‘Rock and Roll Part 2’, thought that was off limits lol.

  8. Pav is better with wild Bill and Smith. PP stop worrying about next year- address the biggest problem they have, the thing which will be their demise – l am certain it’s not necessary to point out what l am referring to – hint same initials you use.in case there is any question. LOL.

    • TS

HB, yes,Indeed. Other teams use OUR Pp to their advantage..they know we can’t score! They can slash, trip, whatever they need to do to stop us, knowing we’ll have no response to the penalties!

    • Pistol Pete

We’ll see how it goes Thursday as far as whether Barbashev or Pav is better with Eichel and Karlsson assuming Cassidy needs more looks to decide. Not sure how many of Pav’s goals are directly attributable to skating with Smith and Karlsson. #6 certainly was. #7 was not. The two PP goals were not obviously. The other three I guess were. Yeah he’s been good with them, just see him skating around the slots and neither of them able to feed him. Thought that could work better on the Eichel line. We’ll see. Agreed on the PP.

      • PP- well glad you figured out what l was referring to – and we agree, amazing. Pav with eichel and Marchy is a liabilities defensive wise and not certain a plus offensively. A plus pp wise sometime is someone is screening goalie which unfortunately is not a strong suit where Vegas is concerned.especially on the pp. Eichel floating around on the pp like he’s in ice capades is a waste as the balance of the players are standing around watching. There is is an a time to slow down play pp is not that time. They need fast puck movement with everyone in on n the action moving around hammering the puck at goal with someone or two ready to slam I’m the rebound. They don’t need perfect pretty goals they just need goals.

  9. DocDG

As of tonight Vegas needs 6 more points to lock up the division. They can get there by winning 3 of 4, all 4, or going 2-0-2. Anything else and their fate will depend on what LA and Edmonton do.
They each have 1 tough game against the Avalanche but Edmonton should have 3 easy wins and the Kings have 2 probable wins.
Thursday should be crazy at T Mobile.

  10. Jailbird

Yea DD, we have our fate in our own hands. We can basically eliminate LA with win Thursday. Oilers are rolling , so we don’t want to face them in rd 1.

The significance of Passover, as Passover week is upon us. 5000 plus years of history are not negated by last generation of perversity.

Passover plays a crucial role in understanding Easter in particular and Christianity in general. Just as for Jews Passover represents the redemption from slavery and the deliverance to freedom, for Christians Easter represents the ultimate redemption of humankind through the life and death of Jesus the Christ (messiah)*.

    * Christ comes from the Greek word χριστός (chrīstós), meaning “anointed one”. The word is derived from the Greek verb χρίω (chrī́ō), meaning “to anoint.” In the Greek Septuagint, χριστός was a semantic loan used to translate the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Mašíaḥ, messiah), meaning “[one who is] anointed”

We get six points out of the final 4 games and the division is ours! What a great story after last years injuryfest. Also, I agree with earlier statement that Pav would be better used with karly and smity. Both those guys are great passers and can get the puck to pav as he moves around!

    • Jose

First place would be awesome Jailbird.

  14. LVsc

poor coaching decision to have #20 in the right circle instead of Smith on the 5-on-3 PP. Stephenson is useless on the PP cuz he will not shoot the puck, and has no onetimer at all. He is zero threat to score, and a journeyman defenseman like Gravel knows it.

    • THE hockey GOD

      @LV

I long for the day the coach puts no. 23 on PP

he has no 17 over no 23 ?? on PP ? He must be saving him for the playoffs ???

    • Blitz

Yeah I agree. #20 has qualities elsewhere, but expecting him to be the quick shot/one time artist, in that spot, is laughable at best. He is so slow to gather and send. Smith is much better at this and more accurate. Definitely miss Pacioretty’s talent here the most.

  15. LVsc

Vgk need to win at least 3 out of 4 games remaining to keep ahead of Edmonton for first place, unless Colorado beats Edm on April 11….otherwise the Oilers have a much easier schedule than Vegas does.

  16. Blitz

It will be interesting to see what Cassidy does for a goalie in the LA game. Many will want it to be Quick for the drama aspect of it, but Quick is not the best goalie right now between the two. Plus playing LB just removes the drama altogether. On the other hand maybe Quick would be motivated to beat LA. Who knows if that matters. I think Quick looks like shit and his style is a poor choice for Cassidy’s system. So again interesting to see what happens here.

    • THE hockey GOD

quick likes to eat the ice a lot, every one his weakness the visiting teams’ TV announcers know it, it’s no secret

      i doubt quick will start

it’s LB’s turn, why turn it into a media / fan fest circus

    • LVsc

agree. I hope it is LB in goal. Quick is so vulnerable upstairs, and he looks shaky handling the puck lately too.

either way, the Vgk need to beat LA, cuz if they lose to them at home tomorrow, and then face them in round 1, it is not good karma.

  17. Jailbird

Let’s say this again. If the Knights get 6 points in the final 4 games, we win the pacific and the WC title! Doesn’t matter what anyone else does … period. If we want it,it’s right there for us, without depending on any other help! Beating LA tomorrow would be the bet start, but if we did lose, we still do it by beatingDallas , then Kraken twice. Also, I don’t think Quick will be in goal vs LA.

Hockey writer Buzz McDoodle, aka Doodle this, author of XXX rated best seller hockey thriller of “Inside the Dark Rink Behind the Red Door”, and feature columnist for the Manitoba Moose Daily Zeyphyr reports the following breaking news story.

“The Arizona Coyotes have been a joke over the last few years and things have only gotten worse this year since they’ve been playing in the Mullet Arena, Arizona State University’s facility.

While nobody expected this franchise to get any worse, they moved to a facility where they could only host 5000 fans, which seems to be enough for their fanbase, but clearly not enough for NHL standards.

Jeff Marek made an extremely important revelation today regarding the Coyotes when he stated that they would possibly be getting the opportunity to play games against the LA Kings in Australia. Meaning the Coyotes would be playing as the home team, in Australia, in a building capable of hosting more than their usual 5000 fans.”

I put some posts up on the last Goalie Interference which may interest some readers. I’ll copy them. Here’s the first with the other two to follow (atten: hdBiker: I know Pav has been good with Smith and Karlsson but I want to see more of him with Eichel and move Barbashev down to the 3rd. We only have four games remaining to build the chemistry of Dorofeyev-Eichel-Marchy):

    Here’s the post:

Dorofeyev should never ever be in any bottom six. He’s listed on the roster as 6′ 1″ 194, so he’s not small, in fact the same height and a pound heavier than McDavid and bigger than both Karlsson and Smith. When he was drafted he was listed on Elite Prospects at 163 so assuming that and the current listing are accurate he’s put on about 30 lbs. Elite Prospects has him now at 176 but I assume the NHL listing is more accurate. Possibly the earlier 163 was not accurate.

For the Kings I am hoping for:

    Dorofeyev-Eichel-Marchessault
    Smith-Karlsson-Stephenson
    Barbashev-Roy-Kessel
    Howden-Bleuger-Amadio

    • Pistol Pete

Of course the scratch may be Amadio as it was vs. NSH and not Kolesar. Cassidy knows best on that but I am confident he saw enough of Dorofeyev on the first line vs. the third to have determined the first is where be belongs. He may revert to putting him with Smith and Karlsson for the Kings. We’ll see.

  22. Pistol Pete

Here’s the rest of what I posted on Goalie Interference:

I really hope they are practicing to integrate Dorofeyev’s one-timer into the power play. Have him on the bumper rotating from the middle over to a circle for the one-timer. That used to work for Martinez. Martinez may have been coming down from the point to pick up the one-timer from the circle. Not sure.

If Eichel and Dorofeyev works, and I expect it will due to Eichel’s ability to hold the puck in the O-zone and potentially set Pav up, I absolutely expect Pav to be on the first PP unit with Eichel and Marchy. I’m believe too that Pav and Eichel together 5 on 5 will cause Eichel to maximize his shooting.

As far as Pav defending compared to being with Smith and Karlsson, Eichel’s 200 ft. game has improved markedly under Cassidy. I have noted Pav throttling it on the backcheck and with Eichel already using his speed to backcheck I expect Pav will continue to follow suit to keep up with Eichel as he has with Smith and Karlsson.

  23. Pistol Pete

Another way to frame the potential of Dorofeyev and Eichel together is that Eichel is a major O-zone time player due to his ability to hold into the puck and be a set-up guy. That is exactly what Pav needs. If that works it will apply to the power play as well.

it’s Thursday, here is what happened over 2000 years ago during Passover week.

The significance of the Last Supper, from the American Standard Bible.

    English

ho belonged to the number of the twelve. 4 And he left and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he was to betray Him to them. 5 And they were delighted, and agreed to give him money. 6 And so he consented, and began looking for a good opportunity to betray Him to them [c]away from the crowd.

7 Now the first day of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 And so Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.” 9 They said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare it?” 10 And He said to them, “When you have entered the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house that he enters. 11 And you shall say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 12 And he will show you a large, furnished upstairs room; prepare it there.” 13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

    The Lord’s Supper
14 When the hour came, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him. 15 And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; 18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, which is being given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup, which is poured out for you, is the new covenant in My blood. 21 But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with [d]Mine on the table. 22 For indeed, the Son of Man is going as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!” 23 And they began to debate among themselves which one of them it was who was going to do this.

    Who Is Greatest
24 And a dispute also developed among them as to which one of them was regarded as being the greatest. 25 And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles domineer over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ 26 But it is not this way for you; rather, the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant. 27 For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.

28 “You are the ones who have stood by Me in My trials; 29 and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you 30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has [e]demanded to sift you men like wheat; 32 but I have prayed for [f]you, that [g]your faith will not fail; and [h]you, when you have [i]turned back, strengthen your brothers.” 33 But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death!” 34 But He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

35 And He said to them, “When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?” They said, “No, nothing.” 36 And He said to them, “But now, [j]whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and [k]whoever has no sword is to sell his [l]cloak and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me: ‘And He was counted with wrongdoers’; for that which refers to Me has its [m]fulfillment.” 38 They said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”

I missed up the copy and paste, let me try that again

      Preparing the Passover
22 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching. 2 And the chief priests and the scribes were trying to find [a]a way to put Him to death, since they were afraid of the people.

3 And Satan entered Judas, the one called Iscariot, [b]who belonged to the number of the twelve. 4 And he left and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he was to betray Him to them. 5 And they were delighted, and agreed to give him money. 6 And so he consented, and began looking for a good opportunity to betray Him to them [c]away from the crowd.

      • THE hockey GOD

What is the meaning of the two swords? It has spurred debated for centuries.

        1. Not a literal sword. When Jesus urges His disciples to acquire a sword, He is not referring to a sword cast out of iron but rather a spiritual sword.

As Children of God, we are called to stand our ground in the battle between God and His army of angels and the legions of demons led by the Accuser, Satan (Ephesians 6:12).

As part of our battle stance, we are required to put on our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6.13), of which the sword, the Word of God, is a part (Ephesians 6:17).

Jesus was warning the disciples that the perils that await them would not be man-made but rather spirit-induced: in order to protect themselves from evil and penetrate the darkness of a broken world, they would need to have a firm foundation of the Word of God.

        2. Luke 22:36 is a fulfillment of Scripture. After commanding the disciples to purchase a sword, He immediately tells them why in Luke 22:37: “It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’, and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.’”

The prophecy that Jesus requires to be fulfilled is in Isaiah 53:12 states, “and was numbered with the transgressors.”

The swords were required to help give the appearance that Jesus was the leader of a revolutionary political mob and thereby allow the Jewish authorities to feel justified in arresting Him.

Maybe this explains why Jesus replied with “that is enough” in Luke 22:38 upon hearing that the disciples already possessed two swords: their purpose was for show, not for action. (Alternatively, He may have been frustrated with their resolute tendency to accept His teachings literally).

        3. Jesus rebukes Peter for wielding a sword. When Peter attempts to prevent Jesus’ arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, he takes Jesus’ instructions to carry a sword literally and cuts off Malchus’ right ear (John 18:10).

However, instead of thanking Peter for protecting Him, Jesus gives His disciple His own earful — of chastisement! “‘Put your sword back in its place,’ Jesus said to him, ‘for all who draw the sword will die by the sword” (Matthew 26:52). Additionally, He heals Malchus’ ear.

This is a further example of Jesus’ character who loves His enemies, seeks to heal, and abhors violence.

        4. Jesus has angelic backup. Though Jesus and the remaining 11 disciples have two swords between them after Judas betrays His Master to the Jewish authorities, the Master remains unconcerned.

Why? Jesus has an angelic army at His disposal! “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matthew 26:53).

In the Roman army, a legion was the largest division containing up to 6000 soldiers. This means that Jesus could call up 72,000 angel warriors at His will.

If that’s the case, who needs two swords?

        5. Jesus wields the sword of the spirit. As we read earlier, the sword that Jesus commands His disciples to acquire is not an iron sword but the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

It is no coincidence that Jesus chooses the sword as His spiritual weapon of choice. Firstly, the sword is the Truth, and Jesus is the Truth that sets us free (John 8:32).

Secondly, Scripture reveals that Jesus wields the Sword of the Spirit to combat the forces of darkness. In Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus uses the Word of God to put Satan in His place when he comes to tempt Him.

Additionally, in Revelation 19:15, it is prophesied that “coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations.”
