VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 4 EDMONTON OILERS 3 (46-21-6, 98 PTS) – OT

Recap: The Golden Knights traveled to Edmonton to wrap up their three-game road trip with a matchup against Connor McDavid and the Oilers. Jack Eichel got Vegas off to a quick start, scoring his 27th goal of the season 1:01 into the period. Two minutes later Edmonton evened the score to 1-1. The Golden Knights were awarded a late power play which Pavel Dorofeyev took advantage of. The 22-year-old recorded his 5th goal of the season to give his team a 2-1 edge.

Midway through the middle frame the Oilers tied the game on the power play. The Golden Knights took eight shots on the net but couldn’t break the 2-2 score.

Jonathan Marchessault gave Vegas the lead 6:57 into the final period off a feed from Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore. The Oilers evened the score again slipping one by goaltender Laurent Brossoit. The Golden Knights had a late power play which the Oilers killed off. The game was locked at 3-3 after 60 minutes. Nic Roy scored the game winner for Vegas midway through overtime to finish off Edmonton 4-3.

The Golden Knights’ record improves to 46-21-6 defeating the Oilers 4-3 in Edmonton. Vegas will head back home to face Edmonton for a second straight game on Tuesday night. Puck drop against the Oilers is scheduled for 7 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: This is such an intriguing matchup because the two teams are both excellent in massively different areas. VGK used theirs early scoring in transition right off the hop, then did well to play their ahead/tied game the rest of the way (which they are also very good at). EDM’s power play is insane and made VGK pay. Vegas deserved to win that game in the 3rd period though as they were the much better team. It took OT, where Evander Kane really helped out. (Analysis by Ken)

Work Still To Do, But Cassidy Loves How The Golden Knights “Find Ways To Win”

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! AWESOME what a team what a game

  2. Pistol Pete

OK after that gutsy win we’re going to raise the barand break the 109 point record!

    6-3-0 = 110 pts

    Nic Roy!!!!!

    • Pistol Pete

      raise the bar and break

    • Richie-Rich

This was the game that was supposed to break our backs. It didn’t happen. Smith out, Martinez out, Stone out, LT sidelined and Brossoit in net. Brossoit has only played 3 NHL games this season and did a very good job in net. The defense was superb. The big difference was the VGK winning battles along the boards while still maintaining good presence to keep the puck outside.

      Again, credit Cassidy.

Eichel’s doing well. Still overpaid, but he’s definitely better than anything we’ve had out on the ice in the past.

Petro is playing the best hockey of his career in the 2nd half.

      • Pistol Pete

Agree $10m is high for Eichel however when you lack a homegrown top line center you have to go into the marketplace and pay the price. In fact lucky he was even available in the first place due to Buffalo’s unwillingness to allow him to have the medical procedure he wanted.

        • Sorvino

Pistol Pete, I wasn’t in favour of the Jack Eichel trade, nor was I strongly against it either. I thought it was very risky, because of the very high price to acquire him. But as I was watching tonight‘s game, I was thinking that the only way you can acquire a player like that or a McDavid or a Draisaitl is if you suck and have the first or second overall pick.

But since we have the best front office in the entire league, they found a way to get that guy without having the team tank or be terrible.

We got some nice 25 and younger players. Eichel, Roy, Whitecloud, Hague, Dorofeyev, Patera and I trust there is more coming up the pipeline from Henderson.

          • Pistol Pete

Yeah when you finish high up in the standings your whole hsitory you don’t get to pick a Stamkos, McDavid, MacKinnon or Eichel for that matter (he was #2 next to McDavid). To get top line centers Stamkos and Mackinnon, TBL and COL finsihed dead last in the league. Dead last. Agree though, Eichel was a shrewd move by McCrimmon. If Dorofeyev goes on to become a sixty point a year guy, McCrimmon will look very smart picking him @ #79.

          • THE hockey GOD

the HSK are in next to last place, the ECHL Savannah Ghosts are no where to be found, in basement. Don’t get your hopes up too high. This organization doesn’t build on depth of it’s AHL or ECHL. It trades away the dream for potential, hopefully, good established players. That is their blue print to date, as long as grape stomper is leading the charge.

      • SMH

So glad to hear that our resident novice hockey poster is finally coming around on Pietrangelo. Maybe you can now admit that your past statements about Miromanov and Zach Hayes being better than him were f*ing ridiculous. And your statement that “Petro is playing the best hockey of his career” is based on what exactly? Did you watch him closely for the 10 seasons that he starred in St. Louis, including captaining a Stanley Cup winning team? To educate you, Pietrangelo is now the 57th leading defenseman in scoring in NHL history, and it’s not inconceivable that he could wind up his career near the top 20 and be elected to the Hall of Fame. Thank god that McPhee & McCrimmon know all of this, and don’t listen to the likes of idiot keyboard warriors like you, who are still beating off to their poster of Nate Schmidt’s goofy smile.

        • TS

Smh, now, come on….tell us how you REALLY feel! Idiot keyboard warriors are called the Fans, like all of us are. Opinions are like noses– we ALL have one! Peace!

you left out “most unsophisticated” fan base (Ian said it and since
he wrote it, he’s no where to be found).

There I repeated it for you.

          You are welcome!

  3. Sorvino

Anybody who has criticized Jack Eichel in the past respectfully, fuck off! Anybody who has criticized the front office a double fuck off!!

I’m actually okay with the Eichel criticism even though I always thought it was unwarranted but the front office criticism was actually embarrassing to the human race. Humans can’t be that dumb but apparently some of them are. Anyways, maybe I shouldn’t have started off this way because it’s a bit negative in which all need .Anyways, maybe I shouldn’t of started off this way because it’s a bit negative and we all need to have happy thoughts. The first 10 minutes of the third period were absolutely extraordinary. All those puck battles they were winning. Unbelievable.

Here’s a discussion point. How good is Nic Roy? I think sometimes we look at players and pigeonhole them and think they are finished product. Is it a huge stretch to suggest that he may be a top six forward?

Oh, and by the way, Nicola just didn’t fall from the sky and land on this roster. The greatest front office in the league brought him here.

    • Sorvino

Nic Roy not Nicola, I’m texting too fast from excitement

    • Pistol Pete

Though I am huge Dorofeyev cheerleader I do real;ize Roy is more experienced and a case can be made for slotting him into Dorofeyev’s spot except for one thing. Roy is much better at center. Dorofeyev is a center too actually but appears more versatile as far as playing wionger than Roy albelt seven games is a tiny sample. I say leave Dorofeyev where he is (he’s 5 G/2 A in seven games) and keep Roy at 3C. Good spot for him and good for the depth.

      • Pistol Pete

In fact this game Pav played LW for the first time. Versatile!

        • TS

Sorvino, I watched him a lot at practice, when we 1st acquired him— I knew he was gonna be a really good addition. Fast, wicked goal shot, great passer. Love the guy. Welcome back, Roy!!

  4. Richie-Rich

I am beginning to think that the real threats in the West will be the Kings and the Wild. I expected a lot more out of this Edmonton team this evening. Considering the VGK injuries, we still led for most of this game. Our special teams are a bit of a concern, especially the PP.

Nic Roy has been fantastic the past two games.

The top seed in the West is within reach.

    • Pistol Pete

EDM’s defense sucks. Draisaitl’s 200 ft game is atrocious and McDavid’s is not really much better. Management seems to think a high powered offense alone wins Conference Championshiops and Cups. Not so.

  5. Pistol Pete

VGK first team in NHL history to start four different goalies in four consecutive games and win them all.

  6. Sorvino

Agreed Richie Rich about the special teams. But we may be the best team in the league five on five.

    • Richie-Rich

The good news is that we are the least penalized team.

      • TS

Rr, when I see that Stat, I wonder: are we the least penalized team because we don’t push other teams hard enough to warrant the penalties? ( not gonna mention ” soft”) That has been a question we’ve talked about here… though we’ve been playing more aggressively lately…

    • Sorvino – not sure l would go as far as to state best five on five in the league, have you watched any other team?. Great win tonight repeat Tuesday will be out of site and a great moral booster for the team the rest of the way. Roy is quite a game changer

  7. SMH

Stole this from KnightsOnIce, but thought is worth noting (and pretty amazing):

“The Golden Knights are the first team in NHL history to start four different goalies in four consecutive games and win all four, per the broadcast. Wow!”

  8. Mark

Just a bruising game. Battle upon Battle along the boards. The Knights power play in the 3rd period was absolutely balls against the walls. Definitely a playoff type game. What gets me about a team like Edmonton is that their extremely top heavy were we are definitely have more balance and depth. Nobody mentions with Smith, Thompson, Stone, Martinez, Hill, we don’t have Carrier either, our true bruiser type kick ass speed and toughness type guy and we still beat their asses in their backyard, the whiner’s they are. McDavid was whining during the game about being checked in the back. C’mon, those checks couldn’t hurt me, and I’m an asthmatic, pacemaker wearing arthritic knee type of 60 year old white guy. It was just embarrassing to see that. That team needs to grow a nut sack IMOP.

    • Jose

Thanks Mark, I needed that. Hilarious!

    • TS

Mark, great post! Every team seems to either whine or fight when we SPANK ‘EM!

      • Mark

Their supposed to be professionals. McDavid should of been called for embellishment, he was flopping all over the place. Jesus, it was like watching soccer.

        • TS

Mark, perfect analogy to Soccer… and Soccer, aka Football, is Europe’s GAME?? Those players are better at faking it than actually playing the game! I Stopped watching soccer when my boys stopped playing as kids!

          • Mark

McDavid should be ashamed of himself. Another comparison is WWE, stop acting out their, this is Hockey. I just can’t imagine, Carrier or Martinez or Stone flopping around, taking dives running around playing the victim. The Oilers are going nowhere, they just don’t have what it takes. Flashy numbers but in the end, they will get their asses handed to them.

        • TS

.mark, .flopping like a fish out of water! What a hoot!

  9. Vic

This old guy jumped in the air with the OT goal. The VGK played their asses off and deserved to win this playoff type game. Eichel clearly the first star and clearly his best game. He answered the call when 5 on 5, 4 on 4 and then 3 on 3, and he hasn’t peaked yet. Fourth star…Ben Hutton. No need to dwell on negatives, but message to Amadio when on a 2 on 1 with Dorofeyev….pass him the damn puck.

  10. Pistol Pete

By the way, Pav’s PP goal was not a spray and pray just throw it on the net and hope it goes in, it appeared to be an accurate shot that went where it was aimed and fired with no hesitation. The shoot first mentality. Exactly what Cassidy wants. I keep making the point, just so long as his play is not a defensive liability, Dorofeyev is here to stay. You don’t bench any player who is able to score five goals in seven games and that includes a rookie coming in down the stretch. If Stone comes back I can see him going down to the third as a winger, otherwise he stays where he’s at as long as he’s decent defensively.

  11. Pistol Pete

6-3-0 would not be just a record 109 points but a record 52 wins as well.

  12. knights fan in minny

huge win perfect road trip the vibe in the locker room must be sky high roy with another strong game lb stood his ground jack was in the zone how about phil getting fiesty after giving the oiler player a little shot in the chops the edmonton guy wanted to rip phils head off best of all no injuries thank god the pure joy on the faces after the winning goal was priceless pavel staying hot

  13. Jailbird

We have a very good team, period. I called this win as these boys are playing together and aren’t intimidated by anyone. So much fun seeing everyone contributing in their own ways!

  14. bobo

good game but brutal non-call on our squad when they knocked McDavid down.

  15. Pistol Pete

Think I’d rather have one point a game player (Eichel) whose mission includes defending vs. a point and a half player (McDavid) whose mission does not.

During the pregame or an intermission they showed a clip of McDavid slamming his stick on the boards when his post shot failed to go in. This may been a potential #59 or 60. To him scoring HIS goals may matter more than stopping goals against and winning the game. Eichel appears to have moved beyond that point. To him goals against have become an equal priority.

    • Jose

Coaching is so incredibly important. Cassidy is a great coach and DeBoer was also awesome. Jay Woodcroft is a clown and I have never even heard of the guy before Edmonton named him their head coach. Draistal, McDavid, Eichel and most of the most talented players in the league have never had to worry about playing defense when they were amateurs. Draisatl and I name him only as he is much worse then McDavid is not going to start playing defense when his coach is a clown with no resume. I have seen Eichel improve defensively dramatically in just one season and I think he will be even better next year. When you have a coach like Cassidy with his incredible resume players will generally listen. Evander Kane should be a healthy scratch against Arizona on Monday, It’s one thing to lose your man (Nic Roy) but making no effort to get back into the play is unacceptable. Edmonton made a great deadline acquisition bringing in Mattais Ekholm but it’s all for not unless their best players make a commitment to playing a 200 foot game.

      • bobo

this is the problem with this site vs. the discord. So many people pump up the Knights while having zero respect for the opponent.
Just because you personally hadn’t heard of Woodcroft doesn’t have anything to do with his coaching ability. Had anyone ‘heard of’ DeBoer or Cassidy before they became NHL Coaches? Maybe for you no, but otherwise I’m betting yes – and that’s the hockey brains in the know, not casual fans who know very little about coach development and farm systems.
Jay Woodcroft has been an assistant coach in the NHL for a number of years, and guided the Oilers’ AHL to a Calder Cup position in 2021 – something neither DeBoer nor Cassidy have done.
Since he came to the NHL last year, he’s had a win rate of over .650 in only 90 games.
So rather than saying “I haven’t heard of this guy, therefore no one else has and he stinks”. maybe look around a bit. And I’ll take Draisatl or McDavid over Eichel any day – Draisatl in particular gets little respect for his two-way game, and Eichel has been problems in dressing rooms at various points in his career. Hope he works it out with the Knights.

        • Jose

Take it easy there Bobo. First of all, what kind of a stupid name is Bobo. It’s funny that I called Woodcroft a clown and someone named Bobo took offense. Is it just Bobo or Bobo the clown. Anyways, relax again because I’m just kidding around about that too.

I listen to the podcast 32 thoughts podcast and there is literally an entire episode on March 16 that is called Jay Woodcroft, and all they do is talk about Jay Woodcroft for 40 minutes straight. I listened to it before I even wrote my post. Anybody can Google search his credentials. There is another guy coaching in the city that I live in and that is Sheldon Keefe, who coaches the Maple leafs, and what he and Woodcroft have in common is Calder cup championships. I see you are impressed by that but I don’t care because I’m more interested in NHL credentials.

I would take McDavid or Draisaitl on my roster over Eichel as well but the point you may have been missing from my post, which obviously had a failed attempt at humour was that I don’t believe that NHL coaches with very limited NHL head coaching experience are the right choice to coach young impressionable superstars.

If you are a Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers, a Jack Eichel of the Vegas Golden Knights or an Auston Matthews or William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs you are one of the best players in the world, and also the absolute greatest player in every little city and town that you grew up in. Everything that you have done in your life , your way has worked to bring you to the greatest hockey league in the world. For young superstars like this, they never had to play defence as they were so lethal offensively their entire lives. They are obviously going to be resistant to change since everything they have done has worked to this point.

My point is that to take it to another level in which you have team success you’re going to have to do some things you’ve never done before and it’s not likely that an inexperienced person like Sheldon Keefe or Jay Woodcroft is going to get you to change your mind, but when you have a guy like Bruce Cassidy, Barry Trotz or Jon Cooper you are going to listen because they have had extensive NHL coaching post season success.

I’ll give you a very recent example here. If Jack Eichel has a rough game, which everyone does Bruce Cassidy will sit his ass on the bench. He has done it already for multiple shifts and periods at a time. Twice this year John Cooper sat his superstars for an entire period in Tampa.

Sheldon Keefe never punishes any of his players in Toronto with reduced ice time, and the maple leafs lose in the first round every single year.

Bobo, I’m sure you have seen Nic Roy’s overtime goal against Edmonton. I hope you can watch it again and if you do, you will notice how incompetent and lazy Evander Kane was on that play. The creator of this website also made mention how bad Evander Kane was on that play. The best thing that Jay Woodcroft can do would be to take Evander Kane out of the lineup tonight against the Arizona coyotes and punish him for that play and then bring him back hungry against Vegas on Tuesday.
However, these are the comments that Jay Woodcroft made in regards to that play and I won’t paraphrase. I will copy and paste the exact comment.

“Evander Kane was too tired to impede Nic Roy after a long shift.. When you’re breathing through your eyelids like that, it’s tough to sort some stuff out,” Woodcroft said.”

You see Bobo. He’s letting Evander Kane off the hook because he’s too afraid to criticize him because he doesn’t have that NHL tenure or respect.

This NHL dynamic of where the player makes infinitely more money than their boss, the coach, is one that can’t be compared to every day life. It would be hard for me personally to respect my boss if I made 10 times more money than he did. But…. If my low paid boss at least had tremendous success at the highest level then that would make a difference and that’s what would make young superstars listen. Obviously deep down I don’t think Jay Woodcroft and Sheldon Keefe are actual clowns since they have head coaching jobs in the greatest hockey league in the world, but they are not going to get the respect from young superstars, that Bruce Cassidy, Barry Trotz, or John Cooper would.

Jay Woodcroft CAN NOT upset McDavid or Draisatl or he will be unemployed. Same with Sheldon Keefe in Toronto. Both of these coaches are basically neutered from inexperience and can’t impose their will on a player.

When you have the two greatest players in the world in Edmonton and you’ve only won one playoff round, then that is unacceptable. They barely beat the kings in seven games last year, and will probably get defeated in the first round against the kings this year. McDavid and Draisatl are tremendous players that will probably win a couple of Stanley cups in their career but not until they improve their 200 foot games and it will likely take the right coach to get them to do that.

The very first sentence of the post that I made that you replied to was that coaching is incredibly important. That was my entire point. I appreciate your opinion, but I am indeed showing very little respect to Jay Woodcroft and also Sheldon Keefe, because they don’t deserve it for their lack of playoff success with such incredibly talented players on their roster. I believe that that a Cassidy, Trotz or Cooper would do much better with those rosters.

          • Jose

Bobo, I would also like to say that I enjoyed your post, and I hope you keep posting here whether you agree or disagree with something I say. Perhaps it sounded a little lazy on my end by calling Jay Woodcroft a clown and I appreciate you calling me out on that but I can assure you it wasn’t from laziness or from not researching Woodcroft or actually never even hearing of the guy. Though he is experienced in being an assistant coach and coaching at lower levels, his NHL head coaching experience is very limited and for that I think he won’t get the respect that he deserves from his players. That’s the point I was trying to make.

The VGK are on quite a run right now, and have played the second most playoff games in the NHL since they entered the league. So yeah, I’m going to pump their tires, and they have had a lot of success with very experienced coaches.

Bobo, I think that even you would have to admit that both the Oilers and Maple leafs should have had more playoff success by now.

          • Ryan

I agree wit bobo. How can Jay Wodcraft get experience if he doesn’t get a chance? I think Edmonton will win the Stanley Cup.

  16. THE hockey GOD

This season is paralleling season one in so many aspects. This team seems to bend but not break. They hurry the opposition into making quick decisions which often leading to near misses.

The Oilers tactics in third period where telling. They obviously don’t have the team depth to match VGK, so they tried delaying tactics to get their top six match ups.

Still not sold on EF HUTTON. Missed no. 23 on D. Coach played no. 17 sparingly. No. 7 left him out to dry on first goal. And no. 17 could not respond in time.

But no. 71 had one hell of a game.

Playoff type game ? I would say on a scale of playoff type game 1 to 10, I would rate it around a 7. Yes there was hitting, the crowd was into it, late in the game. They were really giving the refs the business. Highly unusual for Canadian fans who are mostly docile But they would need to ratchet it up a notch to get to playoff intensity.

It’s good to see VGK beat EDM on their BF day, it’s time to get rid of these
nonsense labeled games patronizing political identity in name of perversity, anti God, anti Humanity agenda stealing Noah’s rainbow.

    Gen 12
12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
Sunday school is officially over, it’s Palm Sunday. April 2, 2023. From John Chapter 12

    Mary Anoints Jesus

12 Therefore, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they made Him a dinner there, and Martha was serving; and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. 3 Mary then took a [a]pound of very expensive perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, the one who intended to [b]betray Him, *said, 5 “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred [c]denarii and the proceeds given to poor people?” 6 Now he said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he kept the money box, he used to [d]steal from what was put into it. 7 Therefore Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it [e]for the day of My burial. 8 For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”

9 The large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not on account of Jesus only, but so that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.
    The Triumphal Entry

12 On the next day, when the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, indeed, the King of Israel!” 14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 15 “Do not fear, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” 16 These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things for Him. 17 So the [f]people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him. 18 For this reason also the [g]people went to meet Him, because they heard that He had performed this [h]sign. 19 So the Pharisees said [i]to one another, “You see that you are not accomplishing anything; look, the world has gone after Him!”

Rejoice in the word, and the way.
    Blessings my friends and enemies.

I think the Kings are going to take out the Oilers in 5 games in the first round. Last year Edmonton needed all seven games to defeat the Kings. The Kings are better this year. They upgraded their goaltending. (Korpisalo is better then Quick) I don’t know if any other team can put out two better defensive centers then the Kings can in Anze Kopitar and Phillipe Danault to shut down McDavid and Draisatl.

    • Richie-Rich

There are 4 very good teams in the west (Kings, Avs, Vegas and Wild). I rank them in that order. The Avs would be ranked higher if they were completely healthy.

Why does THE hockey GOD have enemies?

I don’t have any enemies. How can you get enemies over a Vegas golden knights website. Is he that unlikable?

Nobody cares that he likes transsexuals like Jethro Tull. I don’t hold that against him. Why would anyone care.

      Go Knights Go!!

            2 Peter 3:10-13
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

            John 3:16-17
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

  21. PP – 10 mill for your buddy Eichel was a heavy price $$$$ wise besides what we gave up. Have you noticed how well Tuch is doing 32 goals I recall. Eichel’s medical issue was my major concern over and above the 10 mill. I am happy for him it has turned out as well as it has it very well could have been different. I am sure if the 32 goals for Tuch is wrong you will bring it to my attention. Let’s have a repeat performance from the boys Tuesday. They are quite a team when the “A” team shows up – thanks to Roy’s net presence for the winner – yes nice pass from Jack.

    • Pistol Pete

hdbiker7851, the overriding issue in acquiring Eichel was the need for a top line center which clearly he has fulfilled. He’s close to a point a game and of equal importance is the development of his two way game. Turns out goals against is as important assuming the offensive production is there. No disagreement $10m is high however what was the choice? The point I have hammered home is that top line centers are usually procured from finishing last in the league providing a #1 pick. Examples in chronological order are: Stamkos, McDavid and MacKinnon. I don’t see how you can debate this point. Also as I have pointed out, Statsny was 1C vs. Dallas and Stephenson was 1C vs. Montreal. Both conference finals lost lacking a true top line center. While that was not the only reason for losing each series perhaps it did stick out like a sore thumb. Bear in mind too, Eichel’s dispute with Buffalo is the only reason he became available in the first place. Top line centers do not grow on trees. Either you draft one by finishing last or somehow have the good fortune to grow you own from a lower draft pick. You seem to want to have this both ways somehow.

  22. Sorvino

The Buffalo Sabres are one of the biggest jokes in the league. They will miss the playoffs for the 12th season in a row. In a parity league where they give you a point for losing they should’ve at least made the playoffs a couple of times by accident in the last decade. I wish Alex Tuch the best of luck there. Nice trade for him as he is a buffalo native, and he plays on the top line and is thriving. I wasn’t in favor of the trade, but I am now. I have changed my mind. (I can do that right?) As was said in an earlier post you can’t get a player with the talent of Eichel unless you suck and finish in the bottom of the standings. I wish I didn’t doubt the trade because we have the best front office in the league but I am glad that they are making the decisions and not the fans.

The audacity of the Buffalo Sabres to try to tell Jack Eichel that he can’t have a surgery that he wants. Missing the playoffs yet again looks good on them.

    • Mark

Me too, I despised the trade, just absolutely hated it. But Eichel is the complete package and Tuch is kicking ass. Your right, Buffalo truly sucks, year after year. What a bunch of F ups their. Really ?? How can a team suck year after year ? Just by the numbers they would make the playoffs, right ? I wouldn’t pay good money to watch doormats year after year. We are extremely lucky here and I appreciate our whole operation.

  23. No Tuch is from Syracuse NY about 150 east up the road from buffalo. I recall if l am not mistaken they were Stanley Cup champs in the pass. There are a number of teams suffering for one reason or another look at the Caps they waited 34 years to raise the Cup and only did so beating a first year expansion team. Eichel’s presence there for six years didn’t make them winners so for the good of the game in general l hope they are making a step forward from their previous glory days. We all should be thankful the Knights are doing realativity well.

    • Rashaad

If Alex Tuch is 150 miles east of Buffalo than that is his home team as he is geographically close just like someone who would have been born 150 miles north of Vancouver would call the Canucks his home team.

Buffalo has never won a Stanley Cup. I don’t know what the hell it is that you are recalling.

There are not a number of teams suffering like Buffalo. Buffalo has the longest playoff drought in the NHL. Nobody else has gone 11 years.

Also, instead of building a team around Eichel, they ostracized him by giving him no talent to play with , and then screwing him on that surgery.

For the good of the game, Eichel has been traded to a franchise where he can play with talented players. What the hell is the matter with you. Do you work for the PR of the Buffalo Sabres?

Vegas isn’t doing relatively well, they’re doing shockingly well. They have played the second most playoff games since entering the league. The only correct statement you made in those couple of paragraphs is that we should be thankful that Vegas is successful. However, you might mean thankful as in lucky or good fortune, which is absolutely not the case. They are successful because they have the best front office in the entire league.

    • Pistol Pete

None of the coaches in Buffalo when Eichel was there asked their top scorers to play two way hockey. Cassidy has and Eichel has figured out it’s necessary to win a Cup. Now he uses his speed and stick to defend and as an aside I see Dorofeyev trying to do the same. Encouraging.

      • THE hockey GOD

        PP
any coach who doesn’t ask their players to play the right way, is not worth their salt. Stop spreading rumors.

  24. Pistol Pete

Pavel Dorofeyev scouting notes on Elite Prospects. Note that many times a prospect does not have scouting notes on this site, at least not this extensive. Most telling is the notes are accurate in retrospect. When he came over from Russia around the mid point of the 2020-21 season (year after he was drafted) he posted decent stats for his first turn on North American ice (9 G/4 A in 24 games). His first full season (2021-22) he posted great stats (27 G/25 A in 63 games). If one checks, one will find that season is comparable to Mark Stone’s 91 game AHL career and that with just 87 games played on North Amarican ice vs. Stone playing his whole life on it. This season’s 9 G/8 A was a drop from last season, however injuries could have played a role and perhaps he was working on his two way game and the offensive production fell off, perhaps he did well the previous season Cotter, who knows but the point is Management noted the 27 G/25 A season and had Dorofeyev earmarked for the NHL pending added physicality and better defensive play. Note that Cotter fulfilled those requirements first which is how he was called up first.

“The way that Dorofeyev weaves his way through the neutral zone and cuts through opposing defences is terrific, EPrinkside.com 2019”

“His hands are high-end, and so too is his vision. It makes for a pretty tantalizing offensive package, EPrinkside.com 2019”

“He has a variety of dekes in his repertoire and is capable of pulling off high-end moves, Hockeyprospect.com 2019”

“His slick hands make him a threat in one-onone battles, on the rush and on the cycle., Future Considerations 2019”

“A technically impressive skater, who looks very smooth on his skates and his great edge work allow him to play a dynamic East-West game, McKeen’s Hockey 2019”

  25. Pistol Pete

Having noted Cassidy’s preseason comment of Dorofeyev that “he’s not strong enough) I emailed the team about two weeks later suggesting Dorofeyev work on his strength conditioning (of course he probably had been all a long) and here is the response I receieved:

“Improved player from last year, bigger, stronger, more in the play. encouraging.”

His numbers did fall off a bit to begin this season which imo is non irrelevant given the 27 G/25 A in 63 games the preceding season, his first full season on North American ice. 25 goals in 63 games is an 82 game pace of 33. Any player who scores goals at that pace his first year in the AHL is destined for the NHL. It’s really that simple.

Not only is Dorofeyev scoring up here, he’s playing two way hockey. It’s common knowledge among AHL players that goals against is your first enemy when called up. Second enemy is lack of offensive production. It does not appear lack of offensive production is an issue for Dorofeyev but he does understand he must defend. Goals against is his and his team’s enemy.

    • Pistol Pete

Lack of proofreading again (this site needs an edit function). Typos:

      “he’s not strong enough”

“Improved player from last year, bigger, stronger, more in the play. Encouraging.”

      which imo is irrelevant

I think Pav aimed upstairs on the PP goal, making the shot.

The SinBin prospects ranking is fine for the pre-AHL players. I understand the enthusiasm for the pre-AHL prospects, however I would for sure always rank the 23 year-old and younger HSK players in a first tier and the pre-HSK guys in a second one. You make an exception if the pre-HSK players included a Connor Bedard, otherwise players remain an unknown until they are playing in Henderson and you what they can do as a pro.

Going into this season or updating before Dorofeyev came up I would rank the first tier as follows (these are the only age-qualified players on the HSK roster):

    Dorofeyev
    Brisson
    Morozov

    With Dorofeyev up:

    Brisson
    Morozov

Morozov has one more age-eligible season. I am not giving up on him. He is big and fast.

    • Pistol Pete

      Typos:

and you SEE what they can do as a pro.

      • Pistol Pete

Meant to add that Brabenec should be up in Henderson next year. Hopefully will get points right away and could surge ahead of Morozov in the rankings. Tough league the AHL. Older players with NHL experience. Not easy. Ask Brisson.

Question: Is tomorrow night’s game on regular ESPN, or the subscription plus version? I understand having ESPN cover hockey promotes the sport to a much larger audience, good for the game etc. but honestly I thought the NBC Sports coverage was better the last few seasons.

    The good news.
The Blues outscored the Kings 5-2 in periods 2 and 3.

    The bad news.
The Kings outscored the Blues 5-1 in period 1.

I like our chances vs the Oilers tomorrow with them on a back-2-back. The Oilers have a very good team and I had them finishing in 4th or 5th place in the Pacific. There’s simply too much focus on that top line and not enough focus on the 2nd or even bottom 6 forwards.

Also, it was quite obvious that talent wise, the VGK are much better defensively even without Martinez in the lineup.

The magic points for VGK controlling their own destiny is 114.5. If the VGK win out they end up with 116. if the Kings win out they end up with 114.

    KINGS: @CGY(+4), @EDM(+40), @SEA(+22), @VAN(-17), EDM(+40), @VGK(+37), COL(+40), VAN(-17), @ANA(-108)

    VGK: EDM(+40), @SJS(-77), MIN(+21), @MIN(+21), @NSH(-12 back-to-back), LAK(+22), @DAL(+47), SEA(+22), @SEA(+22)

The Kings have a slightly easier strength of schedule with 6 away games and 3 home games (none are back to back). I can see the Kings going 4 wins and 5 losses. That will give the Kings 104 points. I see the Kings losing to @EDM, @SEA, EDM, @VGK, COL.

The VGK have 5 away and 4 home games left, but one of those away games is back to back after playing MIN twice with the 2nd game on the road. I can see the VGK going 5 wins and 4 losses giving the Golden Knights 108 points and the Pacific Division Championship. I can see a loss to @MIN, LAK, @DAL, @SEA.

    https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/goldenknights/knights-locker-room-chemistry-as-good-as-it-was-the-1st-year-2751231/

This is a fun read for any of you that believe in team chemistry.

Richie Rich, you seem to be a big booster of the Los Angeles Kings and very impressed by them.

If they end up meeting the Oilers in the first round, it would be such an interesting series.

  33. Jose

I’ve been enjoying Phil Kessel’s play lately. At times he has looked like he is finished and too old. Perhaps maybe he was just pacing himself because he’s definitely contributing now.

  34. Richie-Rich

The Kings made good moves in the off season to improve their team. I’d like to see EDM and the LAK to beat the hell out of one another in a long series! I think EDM is more dangerous on the PP than the LAK. On the other hand, I think the LAK is a more well rounded roster (balanced) than EDM. I think the VGK is better defensively than either team and better overall when we have Thompson and Hill healthy. Unfortunately, right now we have injuries to some key players (Theodore, Smith, Stone, Carrier, Cotter, Thompson, Hill, and even Brossoit is on the mend). The addition of Dorofeyev, Barbashev and Bleuger have been great additions.

I’ve loaded up my Fantasy team with VGK players for tomorrow’s beat down of the last place team in the NHL! This is an absolute must win for the VGK. They cannot afford to miss the two points, but even more importantly the mental devastation would be bad at this point in the season to lose to the worst team in the league.

This game is going to have that much more importance than the loss to EDM.
