COLORADO AVALANCHE 2 VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 1 (14-6-3, 31 PTS) – SO (1-0)

Recap: The Golden Knights were trying to finish their five-game road trip off strong with a victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Both teams felt each other out in the early parts of the period, but neither could find the back of the net. After 20 minutes the game was locked in a scoreless tie.

Vegas opened the scoring after team leader in goals Pavel Dorofeyev scored his 12th goal of the season. Colorado answered back :33 seconds later to force a 1-1 push into the 2nd intermission.

The 3rd period mirrored the opening 20 minutes with each team trading scoring chances. The game would later be decided in overtime. Before regulation ended Vegas committed a costly hooking penalty which put them down a man in OT. However, VGK killed the penalty and forced a shootout.

The Golden Knights record drops to 14-6-3 falling to the Avalanche 2-1 in SO. Vegas will head home after their long road trip for a matchup with Winnipeg on Friday. Puck drop against the Jets is scheduled for 5:30 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: Another game on the road trip, another game where the goalie was the difference for the Golden Knights. The game was fairly even for the first 20 minutes but then it started to tilt and VGK took on water. They couldn’t stop it for the remaining 40 minutes and then all five in OT, but Adin Hill was spectacular bailing them out and earning a point. (Analysis by Ken)

Adin Hill was lights out tonight but unfortunately the other players were no match for the worst goalie in the league. Typical VGK hockey. Where the fuck is the Captain at?

Don’t anybody talk shit about Hill ever again. The dude is amazing! Goaltending is rarely a problem or the sole reason for losses. Let me be the first to say thank you for the point. And let’s never forget a bigger THANK YOU for the Cup.

Hes neither Shit or Amazing, he is Solid.

I am curious whether he sets a career high in games and minutes.

  3. Lucky lucky lucky to get a point out of that one….Hill was spectacular…sadly everyone else was pedestrian or worse…ice was tilted severely and VGK could not clear the zone repeatedly and made no forays towards the avs end the last 30 minutes.

Curious why he sent Holtz out there in the shootout when he had Karlsson or even Howden who would both approach the goal with speed…the only thing i could think of was he was trying to instill some needed confidence should he have provided the game winner.

Game 23 Analysis VGK 1, COL 2 OTL Shootout
    Pacific 1st Place 14-6-3, 31pts, +18gf/ga 3 points ahead of CGY
Western 3rd Place behind the Jets and Wild
League Tied for 5th Place w/WSH, the Caps are +30gf/ga

The VGK were outshot, but Hill played extremely well and the Avalanche didn’t get a lot of high danger looks. Great back checking, blocks, poke checks and takeaways stymied MacKinnion and Company all night long until Nichuskin ended it OT.

On Friday, the VGK is on the first of a back-to-back homestead. Face-Off against Winnipeg is 5:30pm on Friday, and the VGK face the “Hockey Club” at 7pm on Saturday. It will be interesting to see how the goalies will be deployed. I am expecting Hill vs WPG and Sam vs UHC.

Dorofeyev continues to play well. Pietrangelo actually fumbled the puck right in the crease in the D-Zone late in the 3rd period. Hill saved him on that blunder. I was a bit surprised to see Pietrangelo out there in OT.

Dorofeyev remains the team leader with 12 goals
and now shots (68 to Eichel’s 65). The guy shoots and scores. Finally gets the three stars from SinBin this game he deserves.

When Pav arrived in Henderson from Russia and scored 9 goals in his first 23 games, I took notice, and boy for good reason. He now has 32 in his first 90 NHL games an 82 game pace of 29. Now if he can just consistently add more assists he’ll be a solid 3/4 of a point a game player with his all zones
play improving. Hopefully McCrimmon will have the cap space to extend him.

Wonder what the heck is going on with Stone’s health because if it’s his back that could be career ending.

I wish they just lost in OT that shootout was pathetic. Hill and puck luck gifted them 5 chances to beat the worst goalie in the league on 5 clean breakaways and they said nah fuck that we are gonna piss away a stellar performance by our goalie to boost Georgiev’s confidence and performance moving forward. Hopefully they don’t face any bad goalies in the playoffs.

Hilly stole us a point. They all count. Move on!

We were outplayed but got a point not bad for the final game of a 5 game road trip. Hill was on his game and he had to be exhausted by the end of the shootout. Winnipeg on Friday should be a good game. Happy Turkey Day to all and all a good night.

  9. Outplayed is correct… it’s not we played badly the other team simply played better and had a better game plan against a team ending a long road trip and at altitude…one thing that was very noticeable was how they took Eichel out of his normal game… he gave it his all but there was no time or space for him this game.

hilly was outstanding except for the laser by mckinnon that hit iron dorfy a beauty shot on the goal

I’ll take seven out of ten pts on that trip! Big test Friday vs Jets. It sure would be nice to have Stoney back for that?

  12. Vic

Hill’s best effort since the cup run. Rest of team not able to mount any offense or stop the AVs high danger chances for periods 2 and 3. No hitting by the D as they couldn’t catch anyone to check. Long periods by the AVs playing keep away which should rarely happen but did. VGK shooters a second or two slow. Avs goalie shaky, but not tested enough. Miraculous one point.

  13. JB

Big one tonight. The big bad Jets. Kick their ass boys!
