Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to salvage their three-game road trip with a victory in Chicago. Midway through the opening twenty minutes Victor Olofsson opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season. Six minutes after the Golden Knights goal the Blackhawks tied the game and took the lead :40 seconds later.
Trailing 3-1, the Golden Knights fought back and closed the gap in the middle frame. Center Tomas Hertl scored two consecutive goals to even the score at 3-3. However, Chicago regained their lead with 62 seconds remaining in the period.
Chicago extended their lead with an early period power play goal. The Golden Knights drew a late penalty but couldn’t find the back of the net.
The Golden Knights record drops to 29-14-3 falling to the Blackhawks 5-3 in Chicago. Vegas will travel home for a one game against the St. Louis Blues for the first game of a home-and-home situation. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: In a game against the worst team in the NHL, the Golden Knights simply weren’t good enough for long enough to win this game. They had some spurts in which they dominated but it didn’t last long enough. Then, there were lapses in front of the goal on multiple occasions. 5 out of 6 in regulation represents some real adversity for this team. Let’s see how they come out of it. (Recap by Ken)

Absolutely abysmal loss.
VGK are going to have to do some soul-searching to get themselves out of this skid. Just hasn't been good enough and there's really no excuse for it.

Okay, it’s time to be concerned. Poor Hockey IQ, Poor Puck Decisions. The VGK went up 1-0 but then this game took a bizarre turn as the Golden Knights found themselves down 3 goals to 1. They fought back to even 3-3 and then collapsed once again.
I actually think the VGK let their record and long run get into their heads. I think this team will get it turned around. They have the talent and a great HC. In this league you have to play for 60 minutes every single game. That hasn’t been happening.
I realize that everyone thinks that the Defense is the foundation of this team, but we’ve seen some serious mistakes out of both #7 and #15. Maybe it is time to shuffle those D lines a bit, Petro is long in the tooth. Maybe give him a rest and give him #6 some ice time.
Losing to the worst team in professional hockey?
That’s not supposed to happen.

When the worst team in the league puts a nickel on you, it’s not the refs. Shame! Shame! Shame!

A Hertl To High Makes Chad Sad
Well, that was something, wasn’t it? The Vegas Golden Knights, looking all glammed up, fell 5-3 to the Chicago Blackhawks in a game that was as dramatic as a reality show reunion episode. Tomas Hertl? Oh honey, he was the only one who showed up ready to slay. He had moments where he looked like he was carrying the team on his back, but unfortunately, his sparkle wasn’t enough to save the day.
At times, Vegas looked like they were skating circles around the Blackhawks, owning the puck like it was a designer handbag. But then, just when you thought they were about to strut to victory, the effort slipped away. Consistency? Honey, they were missing it like the last season of RuPaul’s Drag Race—sometimes great, sometimes… just a little off. Hanifin, bless him, couldn’t seem to find his rhythm, and Stone and Eichel? They looked like they were in a tango, but kept stepping on each other’s toes.
And Barbashev and Roy? Invisible. Not even a whisper of their former selves since returning from injury.
Luckily, their strong start to the season gave them a cushion to survive this stretch of five losses in six games. Maybe this is the challenge they need—a little adversity never hurt anyone.
In Minnesota, Chad, a loyal Vegas fan, rolled his eyes dramatically at his TV. “Oh, come on, boys. I’ve seen colder days than this. Get it together!” he sighed, fixing his pearl necklace. “But don’t worry, we’re still Vegas—this little hiccup won’t stop us!”

If the Vgk players don’t want to play with INTENSITY for 60 minutes, then it is time for changes.
Playing well in SPURTS is simply not good enough in the NHL.
the top players have slumped, and the role players are not up to the challenge 60 min x 82 games.
the Vgk d corps is definitely overrated. they are poor in net front coverage and boxing out.
Let the trades begin.

If I have to hear another VGK fan blame this pathetic run on the month of January I’m going to rip my giant balls off. This team is what we all assumed they would be before the season started a fringe playoff team at best.
Samsonov is probably the worst goaltender Vegas has ever had. He’s not good. The guy makes a dazzling save tonight once we are down by 2 goals and 3 minutes left. Everytime I see his name on the starting roster it makes me want to throw up.
I don’t care how many assists Eichel has 12 goals is pathetic. A complete ghost once again tonight.
This team will not be a cup contender until both Stone and Alex Shitrangelo contracts have expired. These guys are out there moving like 45 year olds and I’m tired of watching it.
Barbashev shouldn’t be anywhere near a top 6 in any respectable lineup.
I’ve never been a big fan of Bruce’s system except for our cup run. It’s too passive and defense needs to play perfectly for it to be effective. The cup run was only possible because for that stretch of games pucks were dropping at the right time but overall I can’t stand watching teams skate circles around them in their own zone until the eventual breakdown. I’m giving Cassidy this season and half of next before I’m firing him.
Hanifin has looked like complete dog shit for most of the season and I blame a lot of this on having to pair him with boat anchor Alex Shitrangelo.
This team is slightly above average and for some stretches good but like I said earlier we need to be looking at running out Shitrangelo and Stone’s contracts so we can find some younger players who can score goals. Mark Stone thinks he’s Mats Sundin firing clappers from 30 feet away because he can’t even get his old ass anywhere near the net. I’m sick and tired of pretending that this team is anywhere near the top 10 teams in the league maybe a free fall out of a playoff position will wake fans up instead of everybody blaming the month of the year.
Fuck this team.

And as of this writing the @$%^&$ oilers are down 3-2 against the nucks after the second period after trailing 3-0 after the first…should they come back and win this game we may be fated to looking up at them in the standings the rest of the year,

Like I have been saying this is not a January swoon. This team is healthy and continues to struggle. The ship needs to be righted quickly. Other January swoons have been due to injuries. This one is due to players not playing consistently and holes in the lineup.
Pistol Pete
Does any team ever go the whole 82 game season without one or more 3 of 4 or worse losing streak and even if they do are they assured of having a deep run in the postseason? Even 2022-23’s mighty record setting Bruins lost 4 of 5 (includes one OTL) once and 3 of 4 once. Then after all that success they choked a 3-1 series lead losing to the Panthers in the first round.
Pistol Pete
Holtz/Schwindt is the one weak link I can see. I have been holding out hope for the 22 year-old Holtz but come trade deadline we’ll see what happens. Come post-trade deadline I predict unless he starts scoring goals Schwindt goes back to Henderson and Holtz is the prospective scratch when another forward has been added or Holtz goes out in a trade in which case Schwindt could be the scratch. Lots of things can happen but for the trade deadline I think McCrimmon needs to add just one forward.
I like the top two lines of Eichel and Hertl. As for the Karlsson line, Howden is good but the other winger needs to be acquired. Pearson-Roy-Kolesar is fine.
Another word about Karlsson, a point I made a few days ago. Like Reilly Smith, Karlsson sports a solid but low top tier career points average of .60/game, identical to Reilly Smith. Both are excellent all around 200 ft. special teams player. But think about it when it comes to points what goes along with a .60 average? More frequent points droughts which is not to say when Karlsson is not getting points he may still be driving some offense. Point is, just expect the Karlsson scoring droughts a little more often than say Hertl who has a higher career points average.
JB
The boys WILL regroup. Tuff patch all teams go thru. After all this STILL in first!

Therapists suggest group crying, ‘forest-bathing’ to cope with stress on Trump
Inauguration Day: report
Mental health experts recommend several activities to help liberals recover from their ‘grief’ over another Trump term.
As President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration approaches, some Americans are “dreading” the Republican’s return to office and experiencing increased anxiety, a new report says.
Time Magazine reported Friday about 11 “science-backed” activities people can try on Monday to cope with their “sense of hopelessness” about the incoming administration.
Psychology experts and therapists suggested a variety of activities that could help those emotional about Trump’s return take their focus off their anxiety and gain a new perspective.
Emiliana Simon-Thomas, a psychology expert and science director at the University of California at Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, recommended exercising, doing a creative activity, showing an act of kindness, smiling at strangers, and going to see a performance. These activities can boost your mood, help you regain a sense of control and feel connected to others, she said.
Working out can “wrest back a sense of power that you might feel is missing on Inauguration Day,” the report said. “You might not be able to do anything about the new administration’s policies, but you know what you can do? Fifteen perfect-form jumping jacks.”
Group crying was another recommendation in the report.
“It might seem counterintuitive, but if you need to shed a few tears on Inauguration Day, it’s healthy to let them out with one caveat: You shouldn’t do it alone,” Time reported.
“The grace and speed with which somebody recovers from grief if they have an opportunity to cry with the support of another person—someone who they trust and who they believe cares about them—is orders of magnitude improved,” said Simon-Thomas.
Other mental health experts recommended volunteering, journaling, making a vision board, dancing, and doing “forest bathing.”
“You’ll feel humbled,” said therapist Anindita Bhaumik in Time’s report. “This mountain is going to be there forever and ever, and you’re one human being standing here. Everything comes and goes, but nature is still there.”
Filmmaker and conservative activist Robby Starbuck mocked some of the strategies mentioned in the story in a post on X.
“’11 ways to avoid spiraling on Inauguration Day’ includes ‘forest bathing’ and communal crying,” Starbuck posted.
“1. Democrats are so weird. 2. Time Magazine is an absolute joke,” he added.
Personally I would suggest hugging a tree, and making sure it isn’t a cactus. Some libs are so spaced out they can’t see the difference.

I’m impressed by the mature take by the fan base after losing 5 out of 6. It’s in our nature as humans to panic. Most people like JB and knights fan in minny are taking a relaxed approach.
For example (hope it’s a good analogy) the S & P 500 in the past 15 years earned 16% per year on average but about 85% of people only earned 3-4% over that time because they panicked and tried to time the market and pulled out their money during down times. A study showed that in the last 5400 days that the huge market returns took place in 47 of those days. The lesson is patience and trust the process if it’s worked in the past.
This applies if you like the players and coaches. I do. They won the cup with these guys and show in stretches that they can still dominate. If you don’t and want to rip your own testicles off your body and don’t like the roster ten I can respect that viewpoint as well. (except the self mutilation – just weird.
Unless this slide continues after the 4 Nations then I would relax. The best front office in the league will continue to do what it does and add to the team if necessary. I really thought they would beat Chicago so I am not really enjoying this slump but every team goes through it and I think this team will be better for it.
They may not be as brilliant as they looked earlier in the year but they are better then what they have shown in the last 6 games. Health pending, I expect a fun lengthy 2+ rounds of playoffs atleast.
knights fan in minny
yes rashaad i do not get the outrage and panic this happened in 2023 and look at the end results a cup not saying that will happen again but it could this is still a good squad

To be honest, I am more surprised that they have had long stretches of excellence more than I am surprised they had a skid. I didn’t have high hopes for this team at the beginning of the season and they are doing much better than I thought they would. Collectively though it is kind of how every season goes. This team is a mix of great talent and not so great talent. Or maybe it is good tendencies and bad tendencies too. So it should surprise no to see both dominate at times. Admittedly I am not super happy with this loss or the trip in general. They literally lost to the last place team in the entire league last night. And have lost to NYI (last in the metro), NSH (2nd to last in the central), and the NYR (2nd to last in the metro). That is really tough to swallow. They need to flip the script again. The only reason we made the playoffs last year was because of the start of the season. I don’t want to see that again.

Erica Neely is a grassroots advocate, small business owner, director, community leader, and founder of the Hispanic Latin Alliance. Deeply rooted in family values, she is passionate about empowering her community and driving meaningful change. Most recently she was a Republican candidate for Assembly District 9 in Clark County. She’s from an immigrant family with roots in Mexico and El Salvador. Her family came here the right way, legally. Here, she tells the story of her transition from the Democrat Party to being a Republican candidate for Assembly>
(Erica Neely) – The most common question I get asked is, “Why were you a Democrat?” and “What attracted you to the D party?”
It’s a simple yet profound question that has taken me years to unpack. Looking back, the answer is rooted in three main factors: culture, environment, and the perception of empowerment.
Los Angeles, California, was the backdrop of my upbringing—a city steeped in left-leaning ideology.
Hollywood, the media, the state government—everything leaned left. Aligning with Democratic values felt natural, almost inevitable.
Everyone around me did, so voting Democrat in L.A. was a given. No surprise there!
Coming from a family with roots in Mexico and El Salvador, the allure of the “American Dream” was powerful.
But as opportunities dwindled, many in my community turned to government programs like Medicare, WIC, free diapers, bus tokens, school supplies, shoes, coats, haircuts, unemployment benefits, SNAP, and more.
Don’t forget financial aid, free Obama phones, free internet, free abortions—the list goes on. Did I miss any? Probably. It’s scary and sad.
These programs, undeniably helpful, created a dependency that solidified loyalty to the Democratic Party.
For many immigrants, including my family, the promise of support in a new and unfamiliar country was a lifeline.
It wasn’t just the policies—it was the messaging.
The Democratic Party painted itself as the champion of the marginalized, the fighter for the underdog. It was a narrative that resonated deeply with me at the time.
Being a Democrat felt empowering—at least on the surface.
I believed in better education, women’s rights, and equality. The slogans were inspiring, and the idea of “my body, my choice” gave me a sense of control over my life and decisions.
It all felt good, but over time, I realized that the empowerment was superficial.
The Democratic platform promised help for all our needs, which sounded ideal. But as I matured and gained life experience, I began to see cracks in the foundation.
This “help” often came at the cost of personal responsibility and independence. For example, the idea that businesses are the enemy contradicted the reality that these same businesses provide jobs and opportunities.
It became clear that the narrative wasn’t about lifting everyone up but about creating division.
One defining aspect of being a Democrat, in my experience, was the emphasis on victimhood.
When you’re wrong, you’re a victim. When you’re right, you’re a hero. Either way, there’s a sense of power—power in being oppressed or power in being righteous.
It was a seductive cycle, but it also left me constantly angry and exhausted.
Instead of focusing on solutions, I found myself caught up in fighting—fighting perceived injustices, fighting systems, fighting people. It was a never-ending battle that left little room for personal growth or achievement.
Even basic milestones, like applying for college, renting an apartment, or buying a car, felt like monumental struggles because the culture ingrained in me a sense of helplessness.
The turning point for me came when I started asking questions and experiencing life outside the Democratic narrative. I realized that the country wasn’t as racist or broken as I had been led to believe.
In fact, it was working for many people, including immigrants. I began to see that opportunities were available, but they required effort, responsibility, and accountability.
During the rise of social media, I noticed a man—Dinesh D’Souza—on TV, in movies, writing books, and sharing opinions. He was an immigrant from India who came to this country with nothing, yet he achieved so much.
Watching him on FOX, I couldn’t help but ask: How is this possible? He wasn’t even born here. Yet, he wrote books, produced movies, owned homes, and made a name for himself.
Why wasn’t I taught how to write books in school? Or how to publish them? How did he accomplish so much in a country that was supposedly broken?
It wasn’t jealousy that drove my thoughts; it was genuine curiosity and, eventually, realization. The opportunities were clearly there, and they seemed to work best for those willing to put in the effort and take responsibility.
That was a lightbulb moment.
I realized that the Democratic Party had conditioned me—and many others like me—to believe we were victims, powerless without government intervention, and that systemic oppression was the primary reason for our struggles.
But watching someone like D’Souza succeed, despite starting with nothing, shattered that narrative. It proved that effort and responsibility could lead to success, even in the face of challenges.
Being a Democrat, for me, was about feeling empowered, even if that empowerment was based on false premises.
It was about aligning with a narrative that felt good but didn’t always reflect reality. It felt good morally, even if I couldn’t afford car insurance that month. It felt good to be a Democrat saving the planet, even as my son struggled with math.
It was about believing that government could solve all problems, only to find that this dependency always created more struggles.
Now, I value personal responsibility, accountability, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
Empowerment doesn’t come from government programs or victimhood—it comes from within. It’s about taking control of your life and working toward your goals, regardless of the challenges.
Closing Thoughts
I share this story not to judge others but to offer my perspective.
I know many people feel empowered as Democrats, just as I once did. But for me, the realization that true empowerment comes from within—not from a political party or government—changed everything.
If you find yourself constantly angry, fighting, and feeling like progress is out of reach, I encourage you to take a step back and ask: What am I fighting for, and is there a better way to achieve it?
For me, that question was the beginning of a journey toward true empowerment and freedom. Only in America!
