Praise Be To Foley, Vegas Golden Knights Hockey Website

Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to make it two in a row with a matchup in Carolina against the Hurricanes. Vegas jumped out ahead 4:03 into the game after Jonathan Marchessault recorded his 20th goal of the season. Goaltender Jonathon Quick was sharp in net, keeping Carolina off the scoreboard in the opening 20 minutes.

Late in the 2nd period Reilly Smith weaved through Carolina’s defense to give Vegas a 2-0 advantage. Smith scored his 22nd of the season to extend the Golden Knights lead. Quick continued to frustrate the Hurricanes and carried a shutout into the final intermission.

Vegas’ Paul Cotter stretched VGK’s lead to 3-0 midway into the 3rd period. Cotter scored off a beautiful two-pass feed from Chandler Stephenson and Alex Pietrangelo. Carolina pulled their goalie with three minutes left but Brett Howden added an empty netter in the final minutes. VGK’s defense held up and preserved Quick’s shutout.

The Golden Knights record improves to 40-20-6 defeating the Hurricanes 4-0. Vegas will hit the ice tomorrow in St. Louis for a battle with the Blues. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: The Golden Knights scored early on a sneaky Marchessault shot through a screen, and then they went into a bit of a defensive shell and allowed Jonathan Quick to clean up the trash. They did well keeping the Canes to the outside and worked hard to block a lot of shots, but they spent a lot of time in their own end which is rarely the ideal way to play. As the lead increased (thanks Brent Burns)VGK got more and more conservative and the Canes could not beat Quick. I’m not sure that’s the style VGK really want to play to win every night, but it worked like a charm on this one. (Analysis by Ken)

VGK Developing Poor Habit Late In Close Games

statement win total team win 3-0 quickie was fantastic posting a big fat zero mccrimmon looking like a genuis

    • Sorvino

I could say it until I’m blue in the face. This front office knows what they are doing.

  2. Sorvino

Jonathan Quick’s play has exceeded my expectations. I love being wrong sometimes.

  3. Bobby

    QUICK QUICK QUICK great trade.

  4. Pistol Pete

Some probably thought I was nuts and/or wearing rose-colored glasses to set the bar at 106 points way back when and now look at us. Tempted to bump it up to 108 but will sit for now on a cushion.

    10-6-0 (.625) = 106 pts

Quick was insane (33/33) and each of the newcomers got an assist. Can you say “astute scouting”?

    • TS

Pp, mgmt was careful, patient, didn’t jump at the first shiny object they saw this time. They shopped frugally, buying only what we really NEEDED. Hey, it’s what households do every day when they go shopping— look for the best deal at the right price! And I do believe we got great deals, with Quick and Barbashev! As a fellow frugal shopper, I approve!! ( and….vgk STILL has cap money in the bank!– wish I could say the same!! Lol)

      • knights fan in minny

i bet mgmt had a hard time not going after the big prize

        • TS

Kfim, yup, they must have been foaming at the bit to BUY HIGH, as they’ve done B4…

  5. Pistol Pete

Calgary is what happens when you win the division and fail to sign your two best players destroying the team’s chemistry. I doubt McPhee and McCrimmon would have allowed something like that to happen.

    • Pp – they are slow learners as they have done exactly that in the past ( destroyed team chemistry). On a nother positive note great win last night. When “A’ team shows up mistakes that are made take care of themselves. Nice play by Smithy who some think should have been traded 22 goals if my memory serves me right and a very good two way player.

  6. Jailbird

As near as a perfect game as I have seen for a while. Got to give McGM tons of credit for pursuing and finding a way to get Quick. Now, there will be a letdown Sunday. Starting an AHL goalie playing his first game. But, St Louis is very bad. We still should have no problem with them!

  7. vgk21

    great game by Quick.

the Vgk are beating the best teams in the east this season. Cassidy knows from long eastern experience how to play them.

        Rhl, because….you know, SPORTS.
Now, POLITICS is another animal…definitely the wrong place for that. Don’t like skiing, I’m guessing?

    • TS

Pp, fantastic for her!! Such a powerhouse on the slopes!

  9. Richie-Rich

Extremely well played. All of the VGK goals were breakaway types with Carolina breaking down on defense. Very sloppy game for a team that is ranked #2 overall in the NHL.

I am not sure how much offensive zone time the VGK had during this game, but from my perspective there wasn’t a lot of sustained pressure. As Ken says, this is not how you want to play in the playoffs.

Next up is a STL team that has little to play for except pride. I predicted 6 points on this road trip and now all they need to do is win 1 of the next 2. It’s a back-to-back with 5th string goaltender in net for the VGK for his 1st NHL start. You can be sure that the Blues do not want to get beaten by a rookie goaltender.

No NHL game is easy, but this is a game that the VGK has to win. There are some very tough games left to play and they’d better not look over their shoulders because 3 times are hot on their tails.

I really like the moves made at the trade deadline. We didn’t overpay and got some gritty players in return.

For now set his horrible season stats aside. Only ones that count is with the VGK.

  12. Pistol Pete

The PP needs to cycle back to Eichel at the left circle. In the one PP this game there was a clear instance where he was set to one time it from there. No reason why Vegas can’t pull a Stamkos with Eichel. He’s valuable as a holder and distributor of the puck on the PP but he needs to shoot more. It’s not his fault he doesn’t, the setup has not been there for it a lot of the time. He’s probably the best shot on the team, Theodore’s one-timer from the point notwithstanding. Elevate the PP and Vegas will be hard to beat in the postseason.

  13. Jailbird

Got to fight that letdown vs Blues. Need to protect the rookie goalie. Very possible toget 8 out of 10 points on this trip.

  14. Sorvino

I’ve been watching NHL hockey my entire life and there isn’t much on this team that screams Stanley Cup champion. Not enough upfront, elite scoring game breaking type
players and in spite of Quicks recent play, the goaltending to me remains questionable. The special teams aren’t great either.

The defence and coaching however is absolutely outstanding.

This is doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy watching them. This is definitely a very good team.

    • THE hockey GOD

“I’ve been watching NHL hockey my entire life and there isn’t much on this team that screams Stanley Cup champion ” except for kessel, quick, petroangelo, martinez, martinez, chandler stephenson, and Ivan the barber.

I have been watching the games before I was born, so there !

      • TS

THG, so your mom was a hockey fan, too??? Osmosis is a REAL thing, you know!

    • Sorvino – just a simple question since you are an old hockey fan watching for years – did you believe the original misfit team would go all the way to the finals only to be beat by a team that waited 34 years?? Just a question as you can never predict what might happen when a TEAM gets their act together. A long shot yes a possibility maybe. Do l think they can no but it’s all a state of mind – if you think you can’t it’s a certain you won’t, if you think you can you never know.

      • Sorvino

HD BIKER, I agree 100% with everything you just said. The Vegas Golden Knights can win the Stanley Cup this year. All you have to do is get into the playoffs and you have a shot. Do I think they will? No I don’t. I believe there are a few teams that have a much better shot. It’s just my opinion and prediction. I’m encouraged about how well they’ve played against some of the top teams this year, love their coaching,

I do believe that the subpar power-play and lack of elite game breakers is what will eventually do them in and prevent them from going all the way. That’s kind of been their history in the playoffs, they start struggling to create offence.

If Mark Stone was ready for game one of the playoffs then that changes everything.

I know we all love the misfits, but how many times do we see them miss scoring chances like shooting wide on open nets. If teams focus on neutralizing Jack Eichel, I don’t think I trust anyone else on the team to break a game open with a special play.

        • Sorvino – I have said all along the PP is their Achilles heel. It has improved a little lately on and off – not consistent for sure. Many on this site suggest they don’t feel it’s that important and obviously don’t understand as it gives your competition liberties with no fear of consequences ( being scored upon). The way they stood up for one another was encouraging. When they snap the puck around in the o zone they have a chance otherwise it’s just a waste of two minutes. It’s a lot more interesting when they show up appearing they want to win. Time will tell to see how it goes. I don’t believe you need an elite player to win l do believe you need a complete TEAM interested in winning to win.

now back to the real world, community service announcement as this past week had some newsworthy events

The Biden train wreck continues. Afghanistan fiasco, foreign policy weakness, leading to proxy war with Putin in which sloJoe has no quick exit plan. Spending more of our tax dollars on Putin than whole EU combined. Out of control borders, crime, abortions, high health costs, high housing costs, runaway inflation, and a vicious unprecedented attack on our domestic energy industry (multiple EOs signed in first month) in order to shove the far left’s sick and twisted (fake) green (climate change hoax) BS agenda down our throats. The result: higher and higher interest rates, which sucked this bank dry and they were stuck lending at higher rates , unable to get rid of their low interest rate bonds which fell like a rock.

A first of yet undetermined BIG bank runs to happen. Note that not a single BIG bank failed under prior administration. Note also that the last time we had a spat of big institution failures was when Dodd and Frank, btw both dumbchit DEMS, were in charge of their respective Senate Banking and House Financial Services Committees, orchestrated the prior runs in 2007-8 time frame when they failed to act despite being forewarned multiple times to do something.

And I bring up this quote from CBS site in 2016

This year, bonus day happened to fall on SVB’s final day of independence. The institution, in the throes of a bank run triggered by panicked venture capital investors and startup founders, was seized by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) around midday Friday.

he size of the payouts couldn’t be determined, but SVB bonuses range from about $12,000 for associates to $140,000 for managing directors, according to Glassdoor

SVB was the highest-paying publicly traded bank in 2018, with employees getting an average of $250,683 for that year, according to Bloomberg.

Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman is forecasting ‘economic meltdown’ within hours of the banks opening up on Monday morning following the failure of Silicon Valley Bank.

        • THE hockey GOD

From a source I trust: @SVB_Financial depositors will get ~50% on Mon/Tues and the balance based on realized value over the next 3-6 months. If this proves true, I expect there will be bank runs beginning Monday am at a large number of non-SIB banks. No company will take even a tiny chance of losing a dollar of deposits as there is no reward for this risk. Absent a systemwide @FDICgov
deposit guarantee, more bank runs begin Monday am.— Bill Ackman

The gov’t has about 48 hours to fix a-soon-to-be-irreversible mistake. By allowing @SVB_Financial
to fail without protecting all depositors, the world has woken up to what an uninsured deposit is — an unsecured illiquid claim on a failed bank.

Monday is going to be hell day for clueless Joe

Thg, all will correct and be ok with banks. FEDS will deal with this in a responsible, measured way, as they have done for decades. Bad banking by small, cash- strapped banks will not bury the banking industry, guaranteed.

        • Richie-Rich

As a taxpayer, I wonder who benefits from the nearly $1 Billion paid to the Federal Reserve each year in interest on the national debt? The last time our government ran a surplus was when Clinton signed the Newt Gingrich budget in the late 90s. Since then, every single President has been responsible for piling on more and more debt, with Barack Obama piling on more than every single President that served before him COMBINED. The national debt also went up under Trump, but he also had to deal with COVID and our nation has struggled to fund social security, medicare and a bloated federal government, forever wars overseas, NATO, the U.N., Ukraine conflict (which is not a U.S. national security issue). On top of this we (taxpayers) pay for the health care, education, and benefits of those who have come into our country illegally. Inflation is at an all time high, banks cannot afford to lend because inflation has eaten up so much of the available liquidity. There is no place to turn to. Inflation cannot be brought under control because the Federal Reserve cannot continue to raise rates higher. I would say we are in a runaway economy now that is in the early stages of a complete collapse. To prepare, you’d better be debt free. If you have a mortgage you had better hope you do not get transferred or lose your job. In the meantime, keep your minds off of all this madness by enjoying hockey. The real world is insane. By the way, you can bet that the interest on the national debt collected by the Federal Reserve (which is not actually associated with the government at all) is flowing to Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Kevin McCarthy, Bush, Obama and Clinton families, John Kasich, John Kerry, George Soros and a whole lot of other elites! And yes, you are welcome for this Public Service Announcement. The world economy is likely beyond saving. Enjoy hockey.

    • TS

The bank SVB had approved many unsecured, uninsured risky loans. Not surprised at their failure. The ARM home loans of years ago were high- risk, high- failure loans, which also led to failures, if I recall correctly. High interest rates when ARM loans rolled over…very few could afford new loans at high rates, so many defaults ensued…

      • THE hockey GOD

their loans are supposed to be secured, according to Dodd Frank stress test against their ‘vast’ holding of low interest long term bonds. Rising interest rates due to joeFlation didn’t help.

the loans from years ago during Dodd Frank era was because Janet Reno threatened any banks not making loans, and Dodd Frank did nothing about it despite being forewarned over 60 times by Bush and Republicans.

DEMs playbook, never waste a self inflicted crisis.

  17. Jose

  18. Jose

Im sorry TS. Spanish is first language. I put post in google translate now and copy and paste. I want to slap the hockey god and then break his spine.

Donald Trump was a serial violator of his oath, as evidenced by his continued use of his office for personal financial gain, but focusing on three crucial ways in which he betrayed him helps clarify his unique historical status. First, he did not put the national security interests of the United States before his own political needs. Second, in the face of a devastating pandemic, he was severely neglected, unable or unwilling to muster the necessary resources to save lives while actively encouraging public behavior that spread the disease. And third, when held to account by voters for his failures, he refused to concede defeat and instead instigated an insurrection, sparking a mob that stormed the Capitol.
