A quick penalty put the Golden Knights on the power play in the first few minutes of the game. After a sloppy PP, Vegas scored as the penalty time expired. A great cross ice pass from Alex Tuch to Brandon Pirri led to a tap in for Paul Stastny. Arizona appeared to tie it, but an offside challenge took the goal off the board. A few minutes later Reilly Smith hit a wide open net after Brad Hunt skewed a shot right to him. A rash of penalties to end the period led to the first Coyotes goal but the Golden Knights were able to kill off the last two. They then got another tap in goal, this time Cody Eakin put it across the line after a puck trickled through the goalie. The Golden Knights started pouring it on as the period went on getting goals from Brandon Pirri and a shorty from Ryan Carpenter.
