ANAHEIM DUCKS 4 VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 2 (11-1-1, 23 PTS)

Recap: The Golden Knights carried their historic undefeated regulation streak into Sunday’s game against the surprising Ducks. Ivan Barbashev started the scoring off for Vegas with his fourth goal of 2022-23.

Vegas took a 2-0 advantage in the second period courtesy of Jack Eichel. It was the top-line center’s third goal in back-to-back games.

Anaheim made a push tying the game in the first half of the final frame. With less than five minutes remaining in the game, the Ducks tallied their third straight goal and took a 3-2 advantage. Anaheim added a late empty-net score to end the Golden Knights win streak.

The Golden Knights record drops to 11-1-1 losing their first game in regulation, losing to the Ducks 4-2. Vegas will get the next two days off and get back on the ice Wednesday night against LA. Puck drop vs. the Kings is scheduled for 7 PM.(Recap by Jason)

Analysis: For 40 minutes the Golden Knights had the game exactly where they wanted it. Anaheim couldn’t get to the center of the ice and the Ducks looked like they were chasing Vegas all over the ice. Then, in the 3rd, the wheels fell off the VGK wagon. They started making uncharacteristic mistakes that turned into scoring chances in tight for the Ducks. Tough spot in the schedule, but VGK had a 2 goal lead in the 3rd, not a game they lose in regulation often. (Analysis by Ken)

Upcoming stories from the Vegas Golden Knights vs. Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center.

  • The PDO gods bit back tonight. How have VGK been defying PDO this long though? (This story may take a few days because I honestly don’t know the answer, but it’s been going on so long that there has to be one)

It was going to happen, but, we gave this one away. Ran out of gas I guess. Too many mistakes in third. Missed breakaway, sluggish PP. Oh well, maybe a good thing?

    • David T

Yeah, anyone who thought the VGK would go undefeated are hilariously unrealistic. They were tired. A lot of games in a short period of days. Like you said, it was bound to happen. Now they have 2 days to rest their legs.

  3. Any sport can be funny/cruel…but especially hockey…momentum can swing on a big hit…a fight….or a total missed breakaway opportunity from your best player…he snipes soooo well….trying to deke the goalie….uh not so much…and then his really bad giveaway…theodore wasnt very helpful either in the 3rd…oh well…a rough loss….refocus and get ready for the Kings on wednesday!

  4. Bobby

Ran out of gas, you could see it early in the 3rd. Back at it on Wednesday! Long season….

  5. Diggles

Ducks were coming hard,.were fresh, and knew this was VGKs second game in less than 24 hours so they could push harder in the third…we’ll be fine. Great streak! Onward!

    • Emmanuel

1 it was a fluke, see G to shot totals
      2 they were tired

Back to back games should be verboten

  6. Sad to see them lose but unfortunately, they were not the better team this evening. Understandingly a little weary and despite trying just couldn’t last. Too bad the lights or something didn’t go out so game couldn’t continue during the second intermission as they were ok and winning until the third. (Called on the count of darkness). LOL Now all that is necessary is to just put it behind them get some rest and they will be fine. Felt bad for Wild Bill as his string also got broken.

Everyone else saw what I saw–a gassed VGK in the 3rd. We expected it..
too bad it was the Quacks who broke the spell. Their fans were LOUD and PROUD in the 3rd!

Question: When has having 6 men and no goalie EVER resulted in a point for US, and not an easy goal for THEM?? It seems FUTILE!!

  8. THE hockey GOD

Their Ghoulie was better than our Ghoulie when it came down to it. And our
goalie was not tired having been rotating with Hill.

and once again ARNOLD was right !

  9. THE hockey GOD

In the last days the men of the habitable world will be corrupted by evil within them by others, including the leaders of many nations to bring them together for a great war which will bring forth the God, Almighty. Be wary and awake for as Jesus said this day will come “it will surprise you like a thief in the night! But for those who are watching God will bless you, if you are awake and ready. Then you won’t have to walk around as if you are naked and be ashamed.

Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. (The word Armageddon appears only once in the Greek New Testament, in Revelation 16:16. The word is a Greek transliteration of the Hebrew har məgiddô (הר מגידו). Har means “a mountain or range of hills”. This is a shortened form of harar meaning “to loom up; a mountain”. Megiddo refers to a fortification made by King Ahab that dominated the Plain of Jezreel. Its name means “place of crowds”. The “mount” of Megiddo in northern Israel is not actually a mountain, but a tell (a mound or hill created by many generations of people living and rebuilding at the same spot)[5] on which ancient forts were built to guard the Via Maris, an ancient trade route linking Egypt with the northern empires of Syria, Anatolia and Mesopotamia. Megiddo was the location of various ancient battles, including one in the 15th century BC and one in 609 BC. The nearby modern Megiddo is a kibbutz in the Kishon River area)

The seventh messenger from God poured out his bowl into the air following this a loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying, “IT IS DONE.”

Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. (Iranian ayatollah a week ago repeated this prophesy).

The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.

And every island disappeared, and all the mountains were leveled.

(it is not the end of world, yet, folks; because VGK lost their first game; be wary like a watchers on the wall (Enoch book 1 , Chapter 1)

  10. Pistol Pete

VGK the better team all game (32 to 23 on the shots) other than giving up some puck battles in front of the net in the third. Paradoxically Cassidy suggested it could have been their best defensive effort of the season referring to the low number of shots allowed. Eichel missed the chance to go to extend the lead in the third on a SH breakaway. I said he’d be getting those did I not? They were not going to go 81-0-1 in fact they will probably lose at least more than 20 games in regulation so get used to it!

  11. knights fan in minny

well it was bound to happen the squad ran out of gas in the 3rd sloppy and tired and the ducks pounced

  12. Rick Schoen

Everybody has commented that the Knights ran out of gas. I am wondering how much the change in clocks had to do with it. It takes me about a week to adjust to DST so I am wondering how much of an affect it had on the knights last night.

    • Emmanuel

You’re right that didn’t help….the game should be taken w/a grain of salt. The Quacks LOOK better SO FAR, they make sneak into the playoffs or maybe 5 teams in the other division get in……(im assuming playoff format hasnt changed).

    • Wouldn’t the clock change have helped? Gave them an extra hour.

    • Jailbird

Not much compared to 3 games in four days, with a back to back. So, we banked 23 out of 26 points to start season. Now we start over. Kings playing well and not that many points back. Big game Wednesday. We need this one!

    • Pistol Pete

I don’t really think they ran out of gas. The PP goal, those can happen, the next two were just sort of unfortunate, the tying one the result of an Eichel turnover in the D zone and the guy just walked in, McTavish’s go ahead was a puck battle in front of the net. These things will happen and do not mean an overall breakdown. Not making excuses just saying it’s sort of part of the inevitable losses that will come. There are games where they will not play well and get dominated but watch the whole game and that was not one of those. Maybe more prone due to fatigue to the mini breakdowns at the ned that resulted in the last second and third ANA goals but I did not think they looked especially fatigued overall in the game. I am really just echoing Cassidy in the post game where he implied they did not have a bad game and perhaps their best of the season defensively in allowing the fewest shots. That he was missing three starting D speaks well of his system.

    • THE hockey GOD

falling back doesn’t hurt, in general,
springing forward is the real killer,

now if your point is that the start time was “earlier’ than 7 pm and at 6 pm, the vGK historically don’t do well at 6 pm start times; one would say to back that up with stats. I think Jason wrote an article about start times a short time ago. I would have to reference that to see if that is covered in any detail.

  13. Henderson Knights

I will be perfectly happy with 2 losses, 1 in reg and 1 in OT, for every 13 games the Vgk play.

Reg season or playoffs, that is a great record, and would result in another Karlsson klassic speech at the cup celly.

  14. I think Ken must have been sipping some happy juice during last nights periscope…talking up Vgk possibly looking at 120-125 regular season points…nuh uh…uh uh…aint gonna happen…as much as we would all like it to…too much parity in the league overall…yes i know the Bruins had 135 last year…a total aberration
    to the norm!
