The Golden Knights didn’t waste much time to acquire a goalie after moving Logan Thompson, completing a trade with the New Jersey Devils.

VGK have acquired goalie Akira Schmid and forward Alexander Holtz in exchange for Paul Cotter and a 2025 3rd round pick.

Okay, WTF is going on. Cotter and Thompson don’t clear any CAP space. I am surprised that they weren’t wrapping on a larger trade deal. WFT is going on?

Cotter is in his sophomore year and definitely has future potential. I can only assume that this means Patera is going to be moved out.

So far, it looks like we are on the losing end of these moves. But what do I know. I know NOTHING.

don’t be so hard on yourself you are not the only saying what the hell

    • Hans

We all daid the same thing when flower was traded for nada. They know what they are doing.

  2. ThG

oh oh PP is going to have a shit fit, they traded his boyfriend COTTER !!

    • TS

You just can’t help yourself, can you?Gotta attack SOMEONE, even if the guy hasn’t posted a thing on this thread to warrant your nasty comment. Way to go, Disruptor! Way to be YOU!!

      • ThG

says the hypocrite creepy stalker who wears granny pants outside of regular clothing, over their head, backwards with brown stain showing so everyone can see it.

with nothing to add here, as usual. What a hypocrite.

        • TS

Thq, your posts remind me of 7 yr Olds! Your obsession with all things POOPY is very odd, for a grown man
. Are you fixated because you have the same issues?? I’m guessing so. Your immaturity is blatantly obvious— you’re either a bed- wetter or you can’t control your own.body. You obviously can’t control your mouth, so it follows that you can’t control what dribbles out the other end!

mid became the fifth rookie goalie in NHL history with a shutout in Game 7 when he helped the New Jersey Devils win a Stanley Cup Playoff series for the first time in more than a decade with a 4-0 victory against the New York Rangers in the 2023 Eastern Conference First Round. He also shut out the Rangers 4-0 in Game 5, making him the 10th rookie goalie with multiple shutouts in a single series and first since Matt Murray for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2017 Stanley Cup Final. The only one with more is Frank McCool for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1945 Final.

Schmid is the second goalie in Devils/Colorado Rockies/Kansas City Scouts history to win each of his first two playoff appearances (Chris Terreri in 1990) with 22 saves to defeat the Rangers 3-1 in Game 4. He made 35 saves in his NHL postseason debut, a 2-1 victory in Game 3, and at age 22 was the third rookie to start a playoff game in New Jersey history, joining Sean Burke (1988) and Hockey Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur (1994).

Schmid ended the 2022-23 regular season 4-1-2 with a 2.02 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in his final nine games (seven starts) and was 9-5-2 with a 2.13 GAA, .922 save percentage and one shutout in 18 regular-season games (14 starts). Two years before debuting in the NHL playoffs, Schmid was playing junior hockey for Sioux City in the United States Hockey League, going 22-13-1 with a 2.01 GAA, .921 save percentage and three shutouts. He was first in the USHL in GAA and save percentage and helped Sioux City reach the Clark Cup Playoffs. Schmid played 38 games with Utica in the American Hockey League in 2021-22, including making one postseason start, a 4-3 overtime loss to Rochester in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Chosen in the fifth round (No. 136) of the 2018 NHL Draft, Schmid signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Devils on May 17, 2021.

  4. Richie-Rich

Holtz, 28 points with NJD last year. What a pearl.

  5. Richie-Rich

Akira Schmid has 43 NHL games under his belt. Any idea what the qualifying offer was? I think it is about $813K.

This kills Lehner rumors and likely kills any chance of resigning Patera.

    • ThG

      cap friendly

A $813,750 qualifying offer is required to retain the RFA rights of Akira Schmid. The qualifying offer is equal to 105% of the previous contracts final season

  6. DeezNutz

Shakira Mid was terrible last season!

  7. ThG

    vgk gets PP;s sniper

“His shot is as good as it gets, and it makes him a threat to score from anywhere in the offensive zone. Holtz is a pure sniper as currently constructed, and he has the potential to be a first-line finisher with triggerman utility on the power play. He’s a special, special talent, and if he can refine that talent, then there’s no telling where it might take him”

  8. HITS84

This all doesn’t make much sense right now but we could possibly be making these moves to put together an ideal trade package for a big move. Think about the wish lists from various team GMs we have no clue about. KM is playing a chess game right now.

    • ThG

vgk picked up two “project” type players that have potential, holtz was a no. 1 pick, 7th overall.

  9. JB

Like everyone else, still waiting for the big move that makes all this make sense!

  10. Emmanuel

They are good moves. The guys they gave up never earned steady jobs.

  11. Recrimination

Vgk trade Schmid, Holtz, and a 7th round pick in 2030

    for Matthews and Marner.

That is Irving Matthews and Clyde Marner, who played street hockey for the Toronto Marlboro cigarettes. They both have a zero cap hit.

    • ThG

lol- good one, had me going for awhile
i thought they played stick ball in bronx

      don’t tell pP

rate vgk draft a D-, to incomplete depending on “massive risk” , massive misfit ?

  12. vgk21

if Marchy and Stephenson are not signed by Sunday night, then they are gone, because there is no way that the Vgk can compete with the higher offers those 2 players will get on the open market beginning on Monday.

  13. vgk21

Jonathan Marchessault and the Vegas Golden Knights continue talks.

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: Jonathan Marchessault’s agent, Pat Brisson, yesterday:

“We’ve had conversations with Vegas. Obviously July 1 is approaching. We’re at a point obviously that if we had a deal, it would be announced. So we don’t have one. So we’ll keep having discussions.”

  14. DeezNutz

The more I think about it the more I realize that we actually FLEECED the Devils in this trade. Pretty decent move and Devils fans are upset which is good lol

    • Emmanuel

Both these guys have (theoretical) upside and they can help now, Cotter has plateaud and any pick after 40 is a guessing game.

I wouldnt call it a fleecing, but it leans VGK, thats the problem with rebuilds, when you have that many young players you lose patience with the slow developers/injured types.

    • ThG

yeah i thought the same thing, I don’t think cotter has plateaued. I don’t think he ever had than much potential for all hype of 5th round pick. Plus it was sophomore jinx. All players involved probably needed a change of scenery. I agree more upside for VGK, Devils fans are pissed.

But then again Caps fans are pretty happy, I think they have side deals going on. Like if Stephenson works out for you, then some time in future you have to throw us a bone. Remember GMGM used to work for Caps.

  15. vgk21

My guess is that Vgk will try to replace Marchy with Stamkos if both go UFA Monday.

Steven Stamkos agent Don Meehan just said that Stamkos is going to free agency Monday.

  16. JV

I’m guessing they think Schmid still has upside while LT seems to have reached his ceiling? Figured Cotter would have taken Carrier’s spot on Line 4. Holtz getting 28 points in NJ bottom 6 isn’t terrible. He will have to improve defensively to earn any trust from Cassidy.

  17. ThG

Kelly McCrimmon confirms Logan Thompson requested a trade:

“He felt he needed a change and requested a trade from the organization.”

And Ken hates the new guy , no. 1 draft pick, pretty obvious. Massive misfit is his new knickname.

I say give the kid a chance, and stop the woke broke dramatics BULL SHIT. Get over it.

  18. ThG

It’s pretty obvious KM KM GM not only has to manage SAL CAP issues, but curve balls from whiny players who ask to be traded after being pulled in playoffs because they are obviously not team players. Shades of MAF !!!

or maybe CURSE of MAF resurfacing itself ?

  19. ThG

tulsi says all you need to know

  20. ThG

this is typical dem voter (other than those in nursing homes and Forrest Lawn )

  21. Leonard Wise

Honestly not sure of VGK plan. You just got rid of your backup goalie who was on a great contract. You don’t qualify Schmid who you just traded for. So now you have to go out and need to spend more on a backup goalie. Which leaves even less on a forward. I like the pickup of the Jersey foward but he’s a third liner maybe second line down the road.
If he improves. However need a fist line caliber foward and will have less money to pay him.

    • ThG

Schmid was said to be no. 3, not back up goalie, and latest news says he is expected to sign with VGK.
VGK in market for no. 2 goalie. WAit for it !

  22. ThG

Don’t listen to what DEMS say (like they are saving “democracy”) , look at what they do. Like this neofascist , draconian, Adolf like policy agenda being shoved down our throats. What DEMS often accuse others of doing, are what they are really doing themselves.

When businesses and Republicans take the anti-capitalism fight to the footsteps of the federal government, it’s always a pleasant sight. Leftist bureaucrats for decades have attacked the American people with unnecessary and oppressive regulations.

Joe Biden’s administration has championed every radical leftist idea when it comes to government interfering with people just trying to live their lives. From so-called global warming to clean energy mandates to undermining fossil fuels, Biden’s minions have worked to hinder the nation’s capitalist society.

The president recently learned that the people have had enough of his bureaucratic nonsense. Biden faces a lawsuit that brings together dozens of states and businesses to stop his oppressive overreach in trying to achieve his leftist goals.

    From the Washington Examiner:
States and industry groups filed separate lawsuits Wednesday to overturn the Biden administration’s fuel economy standards for vehicles, which aim to reduce both oil consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

“Congress did not give the NHTSA such power to reshape an industry in a way that would ultimately hurt the pocketbooks of consumers — this rule is legally flawed and unrealistic,” West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said. “This will undoubtedly cause the United States to be dependent on other nations like China for our energy needs and will undermine American energy security by increasing demand and strain power grids.”

A coalition of 26 states, led by West Virginia and Kentucky, is suing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to overturn the agency’s finalized rules enacting stricter fuel economy standards. The lawsuit called the requirements “unworkable” and argued they would lead to a forced transition to electric vehicles. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.

That wasn’t the only lawsuit filed against Biden and the gang. The American Petroleum Institute, the largest U.S. oil trade group, the American Farm Bureau Federation and other agricultural and automotive groups, blasted Biden’s requirements. This lawsuit was like the one from the states but added a critical focus that rural and farming areas would be harmed.

These areas outside urban centers naturally have greater distances between gas stations, much less charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Agricultural groups also argued that Biden’s oppressive standards would jeopardize ethanol demand which is vital to the business of corn farmers.

The NHTSA rule will increase the fuel economy standards by 2% each year for passenger cars in model years 2027 to 2031 and for new light trucks in 2029 to 2031. The standards will increase for new heavy-duty pickup trucks and vans by 10% annually from 2030 to 2032 and 8% from 2033 to 2035.

Both lawsuits challenge the NHTSA’s final rule, which was finalized earlier this month as exceeding the agency’s statutory authority and is “arbitrary, capricious, an abuse of discretion, and not in accordance with law.”

    Key Takeaways:
States and industry groups sued to block Biden’s steep fuel economy vehicle standards.
Lawsuits were filed to revoke a federal rule plaintiffs called “unworkable” across the board.
Plaintiffs argued in the lawsuits that Biden’s rule is a forced transition to electric vehicles.

  23. ThG

Not offering him a qualifying offer could mean the Golden Knights will be handing him a two-way deal which will allow him to go from the Golden Knights to the Henderson Silver Knights without the use of waivers.

In addition to Schmid, Layton Ahac and Mason Primeau were not given qualifying offers.

If the Golden Knights want to send Korczak or Dorofeyev to the minors they will both require waivers.
