Vegas’ Veterans Leading Team’s Charge To First Place In The Pacific

(Photo Credit: SinBin.vegas Photographer Brandon Andreasen)

For the 7th time this season, the Golden Knights defended home ice with victory. It also happened to be the 7th time Vegas veterans Alex Pietrangelo and forward Mark Stone picked up a point in the same game. Both elder statesmen are on a feverish scoring pace this season, pushing the Golden Knights to the top of the standings.

Everybody was involved. Sometimes, your team gets hot. We might be going through one of those stretches. I’d love to keep this pace, don’t get me wrong. Things are going in for us. We’re making good plays. We’re extending leads. -Bruce Cassidy

The Golden Knights seem to be slowly shifting to the next generation of leaders taking bigger roles on the roster. Mark Stone is not the face of the franchise anymore, Jack Eichel is. In the past six months the organization signed contracts comparable to Alex Pietrangelo’s with two defensemen under the age of 30. Lastly, Vegas chose to free up roster spots by moving on from aging fan favorites Jonathan Marchessault and Alec Martinez.

Call it a change in power, an organizational handover, or simply a progression in leadership. It’s a practice that happens every year in the NHL. For example, Jon Tavares handed his captaincy over to Auston Matthews in Toronto. However, this season Pietrangelo and Stone are making it known they’re not ready to hand the team over any time soon.

One of the more overlooked statistics in hockey is the primary assist. Besides leading the NHL with 18 points, Vegas’ captain also has the most A1’s in the league. Pietrangelo is only a few back with six primary assists and only trails Cale Makar in points among defensemen. Both are on pace for career highs in many categories.

Pietrangelo & Stone 2024-25 NHL Stats

  • Points – Stone: 18 (1st) Pietrangelo: 12 (14th)
  • Assists – Stone: 13 (2nd), Pietrangelo: 11 (5th)
  • Primary Assists – Stone: 8 (1st), Pietrangelo: 6 (7th)

Veteran stars leading Vegas’ 7-2-1 start are allowing newer and increased role players to comfortably settle in. Without any early pressure to score, Vegas’ depth is now pitching in. We’re not even through October and 20 Golden Knight players have recorded a point.

Of course, other teammates are having fantastic starts to the season. Ivan Barbashev and Tomas Hertl have answered any offensive questions fans may have had. Shea Theodore has been heavily visible on the scoring sheet and Eichel has been as advertised. However, when Vegas receives this top-level play from Pietrangelo and Stone they become an incredibly frightening opponent for any team in the playoffs.

And I mean soil your pants type scary. Like how my kids felt tiptoeing through the haunted house at our local Pumpkin Patch. I’ll leave it up to your imagination as to whether or not new pants were needed for either child.

So far Petro is looking like a Norris quality D man. He just looks different this year in a very good way. Watch out if he stays healthy. With Stone, we know if he stays healthy this will be a great season.

Jason, I disagree on the primary assist. Have you ever noticed the work some players do to enter the zone cleanly and then get the puck to an open guy? That open guy slides it to the guy who scores. Or a guy sets up a play passing it to a shooter who hits a guy in the ass in front of the net for a tip in? Which assist is of more value? Of course it works the other way sometimes, where the guy with the secondary assist hardly does anything, but to me it’s not a subject worth the effort. I’ve been playing and watching for over 60 years, and I never even heard of a primary assist until you guys brought it up. Call up Orr, Gretzky, Messier, Ron Francis and Adam Oates for advice. Tell them about half of their assists were secondary.

    • ThG

I agree Vic, these new fangled writers trying to make up terms that are just plain bulls hit.

    • NAM

I agree Vic, Petro really does look different so far this year. Maybe a change of partners and ability to drive the offense more with Hanfin or Theo. It a good thing, whatever it is.

      • ThG

HAJ opps, I mean NAM. Maybe he’s both pyshically and mentally in a better place than he was last year ?

Remember all the lame local writers and twisters, tweeters, podcaster and lo bro fans wondering where all the scoring would come from after Marchy left ? The same ones blaming the FO for Marchy leaving ? Where are these lame brains now ? Don’t believe the fake news folk, most of them are liberal arts putzs who couldn’t pass a technical exam in anything.

        • Frank

I was one person wondering where the scoring was going to come from. No way did I have Barbashev scoring at the rate he is… and Kolesar, Howden, Pietrangelo etc. for that matter…. Eichel and Stone you kind of expect…. But man…. whereas in years past we have had plenty of trouble putting the puck in the net (plenty of shots and not many goals to show for them)…. we have turned the page in a big way this year. We’re literally scoring at will most nights. We will regress in that department – but how much remains to be seen.

Primary assists are an old concept.
I think the mistake made almost a century ago was awarding
    a secondary assist.
    2 assists on 1 goal?
We take it for granted but its an illogical concept.

  3. I think it was the first goal against Calgary….Shea made a terrific shifty stick handling move just inside the defensive blue line…the puck ended up behind the opposing net….Karly found Holtz….Holtz found Petro …and Petro found the back of the net…yet it was Shea that directly led to the goal and no ‘primary’ or ‘secondary’ assist!!!…that was the definition of a ‘team’ goal!

One would have to be pretty stupid to attribute the Oilers 6-1 loss to Columbus to McDavid leaving the game early with an injury, would one not? This would mean one thinks coaching had nothing to do with the team’s slow start (with McDavid) and that names such as Draisitl, Hyman, Nugent, Skinner and a slew of depth players can’t pick up the slack and win games without McDavid. No, the problem over there in Edmonton has something to do with coaching. Anyways we’ll see how the Oilers do without McDavid past the Columbus debacle. If they are any good at all they should be able to win.

    • Pistol Pete

In fairness to Knoblauch, credit him in replacing Woodcroft, that he turned the season around and took the team to the Finals, but a 0-5 start including the first four at home indicates lack of preparation. Then losing to Columbus 6-1 even with McDavid out indicates lack of preparation.

      • ThG

how did “lack of preparation” get McDavid injured ? He was tripped into boards on his first shift on the ice. Talk about morons.

        • Pistol Pete

Lack of COACHING preparation as far as allowing a strong roster to suffer a 6-1 loss to one of the not best teams in the league. My goodness we are age-challenged aren’t we?

    • ThG

the only stupid thing here is you and failure to understand hockey at it’s basic level, your posts here have proven more often than not who is stupid.

      • Pistol Pete

ThG I have tried to debate you previously and you seemed unable to carry it on. Not sure if you have lost a step with advancing age or if you were limited from youth. The former more than likely. Whatever it ain’t pretty now.

        • ThG

PeePee you can’t debate anyone, you are a lib tard moron who insults people here calling them dufuses and you insult people at work because they are not lib tard morons like you are. I state the facts. You can’t handle the truth.

          • Pistol Pete

But you never debate. You insult. If I do call someone out as I did Butch Cassidy at least I came back and prefaced the dufus remark and retracted it basically. You never retract an insult or concede a point. I know one poster who agrees with your political views but thinks you are a jerk. We all do. You are an asshole here, like all the time. Never a nice thing to say. Ever!

          • ThG

            “”You insult”

says the putz who gets called out for calling people on this forum a dufus and co workers idiots. YOU OWN IT, and will be called out EVERY FUCKING TIME. Deal with it wuss. You are one who started the name calling. And if you can’t take the heat, then you shouldn’t have started it in first place. So shut your pie hole and take it like the lib tard pussy that you are.

  6. But let’s hope they don’t win in the interim… in the near and future term… and NEVER lift that hallowed CUP so long as VGK has a legitimate chance to do so!!

Halloween, Satanism, and 21st Century Devil Worship
“trick or treat” – what kind of message does that convey to our children ????

A quote from Anton LaVey, author of The Satanic Bible and founder of the Church of Satan, regarding Halloween has been popping up on social media these last few days. Allegedly LaVey said: “I’m glad Christians let their kids worship the Devil at least one night out of the year.”

Halloween has long been claimed as the high, holy day of Satan worship. This is the day when witches and warlocks gather to praise their leader and extend his work on Earth. Festivities are marked by unprecedented evil and blasphemy, with blood sacrifices and hedonistic practices playing prominent parts.

Satan, we must remember, is the “adversary . . . [who], as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8), and many times he disguises himself as “an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). We are to “resist [him] stedfast in the faith” (1 Peter 5:9), for, “resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

Although Satan is acknowledged to be “the prince of this world” (John 14:30), his doom is sure. “The God of peace shall bruise [literally crush] Satan under your feet shortly” (Romans 16:20). He will be “cast into the lake of fire and brimstone . . . and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever” (Revelation 20:10).

Until the realization of that ultimate victory is gained, our mission on Earth is to “turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God” (Acts 26:18).

Accordingly, let us strive to see that his harmful influence is thwarted on this, his special day. The children of each community need protection from the evil influences boldly swarming this night. May we, ourselves, not fall prey to his dark deceptions, and especially in the lives of our children, may we focus their attention on the Light, instead.

Devil’s Night is the name given to the night before Halloween i It’s a night of mischief, fear, and flames, marked by pranks and arson.
The tradition of Devil’s Night has its roots in Europe, where it’s known as Mischief Night and takes place the day before May Day. It came to the United States in the 1930s and 1940s.
Devil’s Night was once a relatively harmless nuisance to the police and fire departments, with pranks like egging and toilet papering houses. However, over time the tradition became more destructive, with arson and destruction levels that were so unique that people would travel from other states and countries to watch the fires.
In response to the fires, Angels Night was created, with an estimated 50,000 volunteers patrolling the streets in yellow shirts with flashing yellow lights. Residents were also encouraged to keep their porch lights on. The success of Angels Night led to Devil’s Night and Angels Night eventually becoming a thing of the past.
Depending on where you live, Halloween Eve may also be known by other names, such as Mischief Night in New Jersey, Gate Night in the Midwest, or Cabbage Night in parts of New England and Ohio

Satanic events, evil, Vegas, Sin and more.

Q: HOW DO I GET THERE?
A: Drive, or better yet, take a taxi, limo, Uber or Lyft. Traffic, parking, everything will be a nightmare on Halloween weekend in Las Vegas, and with the Fetish & Fantasy Halloween Ball being the biggest Halloween event in Vegas, the area around it will be a zoo. We strongly recommend leaving the driving up to someone else so that you can just concentrate on having fun.

Q: IT’S MY FIRST TIME, WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
A: The FFHB is a mandatory costume ball where attendees can display their wild side in a public setting without feeling bound by the rules of day-to-day life. It’s a chance to dress in sexy, seductive, and outrageously creative attire, however, it is not uncommon for people to attend dressed in modest outfits or gag costumes. Constant entertainment, and surprises around every corner make this event like no other. With attendees from all over the world, our events are an ideal way to explore your secret self, make some new friends, and see some things you don’t see every day. And remember “YOU ARE THE SHOW, SO DRESS TO THRILL”.

Q: WHAT TIME DOES THE FFHB BALL START AND END?
A: The FFHB starts at 9:00pm and ends at 3:00am.

Q: DO I NEED TO WEAR A COSTUME?
A: You need to adhere to our dress code which is roughly COSTUMES of any type, FANTASY / FETISH WEAR such as: uniforms, leather, lingerie, latex, rubber, p.v.c., lace, feathers, saran wrap, or anything else you might dream up. FORMAL WEAR meaning tuxes for men, gowns for ladies. Ladies may wear sheer fabrics, and revealing outfits, but no nudity is allowed. See DRESS CODE for complete information

PeePEE, who repeatedly insults people here, deals yet another one in long line of insults. Go fuck yourself you pitiful piece of insulting lib tard trash.

        • Pistol Pete

          My pleasure ThG

          • Pistol Pete

And btw ThG it was you who started the name calling between us. Popgun Pedro. Remember? And before you further insult me by claiming I insult people around here just give me one example where I insulted anybody other than you save Butch Cassidy and I was decent enough to retract it. You never retract or apologize it’s just shit shit shit on everything. You are just such a dickhead to everybody here and everybody knows it. I am not a dickhead not even to you to whom I am just giving your due.

Let me ask you, Have I ever called you a conservatard? See, you just insult insult insult. Do we all revert to childhood in old age? No, most of us do not.

  11. BeatsBJ

Just curious, anyone here think this kid Brendan Brisson is possible trade material? Seems like a decent prospect stuck in an organization where the roster is hard to crack. Can happen on very good teams. No points in six games but put up eight in 15 games last year.

    • BeatsBJ

No opinion this site on first rounder Brisson? The coach is playing a guy claimed on waivers in his place. Jesse Granger does articles for The Athletic on the VGK. Some pretty good hockey posting over there. Just checking here but it looks more off topic .Vegas is a hockey town just not easy to find analysis by locals. Actually X has more of it looks like.

  12. I have stated repeatedly that Brisson is not a third liner due to his limited …though highly vaunted by the scouts…. offensive skills… he is certainly not a 4th line energy guy by any stretch of the imagination…in my estimation he has no trade value at this time…and I would rather he be replaced by Shwintd or to give a call up to Lavoie or Denisenko even….you now have your answer.

    • BeatsBJ

Larry thank you for stepping up! Tend to agree with your assessment. Just thought with his 8 points in 15 games last year he would be better than zero in 6 this one. Oh well. Tough hoe this NHL!

  13. Youre welcome…he has many of the same attributes or lack thereof that Cody Glass has/had…no speed…no quickness…..no shiftiness…no one timer…no mucking in corners…pushed off puck too easily…i watched a kid like Stankoven last year and was so impressed with his all around game at such a young age…sadly there is no one on our immediate horizon that fits that bill.
