Stone’s Aggressive Nature Triggered Stars’ Late Game Turnaround

Since the day the Golden Knights acquired Mark Stone, fans have witnessed one of the most driven, effort-reliant athletes in professional sports. It’s been his signature style of play and the Golden Knights have greatly benefited from it. From divisional and conference titles to a Stanley Cup trophy, Stone has led the way through it all. However, his overaggressive behavior cost the Golden Knights a point last night against the Dallas Stars.

I go to reach to try and angle him out, and I’m not sure who it was that tripped me and I fell forward. You never want to see guys get hurt, and I hope he’s alright. I was trying to make a play and got tripped into him. -Mark Stone

The Golden Knights captain adamantly denied any malice after he directly or indirectly tripped into star defenseman Miro Heiskanen’s knee. It was an unfortunate incident that resulted in a two-minute penalty for Stone and a likely IR trip for Heiskanen. What could have twisted into a payback style of finish, the Stars exacted revenge on the ice with a 4-3 comeback win, which was at least in part fueled by Stone’s questionable lunge.

Most NHL players would have landed naturally after being inadvertently clipped by an opposing player, but not Stone. His full-throttle mentality made the decision, mid-trip mind you, not to give up on the play. To Stone, the sequence was the same as if he was upright on his skates poke checking for a puck.

I just talked to him, we’ll see. I’ve coached Mark Stone. He’s not a dirty player. He’s not trying to hurt anybody. … Just pray that we’ll get some pictures, and we’ll see. -Pete DeBoer, DAL coach

However, his decision to make the extra effort injured one of the league’s best defensemen and fired up an entire bench of Western Conference contenders.

The game-tying goal saw the Stars take advantage of Stone’s reliance on his stick over his feet to defend. As the Stars came through the neutral zone, Stone attempted to break up the play with a stick check, but youngster Wyatt Johnston was able to evade it rather easily. It always hard to diagnose motivation, especially in mid-season games, but it was pretty clear the Stars were out to avenge their fallen teammate, and they were able to do it by scoring a pair of goals, both with Stone on the ice watching.

They shouldn’t have tripped him when he was only like 10-15 ft away from their puck carrier.

    crazy play

  3. A mini season of 5 games commences starting Thursday until the break….will they put their full game together and garner 6-7 points or will it be a sad sack total of 3-4 which would mean serious limping into the break

The next mini season is up to and including the Trade deadline and whatever new pieces may or may not be added.

Next up is the fighting for playoff seeding and getting the new pieces acclimated to their new environment including teammates…city…coaches…system and buying into what is being sold to them and caring about it all….lets call it the unlikemantha effect shall we.

Ultimately this leads us to the actual season all care about most which is a run deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs…despite the naysayers about this that and the other thing…this team and this organization is and will be built for that time of year…and while nobody in any other organization would ever admit to it…we are the LAST team anyone wants to face at any point during the playoffs!!

    Go Knights Go!!

    • I agree with a lot of what you said Larry, precise and concise and ultimately hopeful for what might transpire over what we all hope will be the next 4 months plus.

Stone was tripped and fell into him – a weir accident and exactly why this four-nation tournament is a really hair brain idea. I see where Petro has out now – the risk is way too great and the potential for an accident is no different that the situation last night. I am surprised that management would even allow one of their employees (players) to even participate.

Why no hustle in overtime and get back to defend??? Dallas had as easy a goal as you could get! Just seemed like they weren’t hungry to win esp since Dallas beat them last road trip! Really disappointed loss at home.

After watching the RFK Jr. hearing today, it is abundantly clear to me that I could NEVER vote for a Democrat for the rest of my life.

These people are completely insane and have no morals

Bernie Sanders showcases “unvaxed” shirts sold by an organization he claims RFK Jr. runs.

        It backfired.

SANDERS: You say you are pro-vaccine… just want to ask, will you have your organization pull this merchandise?

RFK JR: I am not even part of that organization. I resigned.

SANDERS: You have power over it.

RFK: I have nothing to do with it.

SANDERS: Are you supportive of this?

        RFK: *Laughs*

SANDERS: You won’t tell them to take it down?

        RFK: *Laughs*
