I think Jason tainted the experiment by giving $5/ 6 million dollar figures to Foley. Joel Quenneville will make $6 million next season. The next highest paid coach behind Babcock and and Quenneville makes $4 million (Tippett, Vigneault). Julien was set to make $3 million next season. If a free spending team has a job opening in the summer he could make around $4.5 million per year. I think we could get him for $4 million per, but I don’t think he wants the job.

I don’t see the rush to hire Capuano. He will still be on the market in the summer. Foley is not fooling anybody by hiring him by the end of the month. I’ve got to be honest it feels like we are settling. He’s the perfect candidate if you don’t want to open the purse strings. I think he might have been the lowest paid coach in the league. Charles Wang was a notoriously cheap owner. I can stomach losing for the first three seasons, so the coach isn’t at the top of my list of priorities. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I viewed Capuano as a ‘placeholder’ on Long Island. I didn’t believe the Islanders could win a Stanley Cup with run of the mill Capuano.

I think it’s a bit of a long shot, but I would love to hire Jon Cooper. He is a better candidate than Capuano and worth waiting for. The former lawyer is a wordsmith and would help sell the game.

It would be nice if a coach could start working with the team immediately, but let’s wait until the end of the season to see who becomes available.

Seems like a cool event and all but again why is the focus on the rest of the world and not your backyard? Foley wants the Knights to be China’s team but he doesn’t even have Las Vegas anywhere near locked up yet. It is exciting to hear that nearly 8 months after being awarded the team that Las Vegas finally has some plans sometime in the future to market to locals. I can almost feel the electricity in the air.
