Record At Deadline Could Be A Tell As To How Active VGK May Be On This Year’s Trade Market

The 2025 Trade Deadline is exactly one week away (literally to the second of when I published this article). As always, the Golden Knights are expected to be players, as they have been in all of the previous seven deadlines. This year’s team likely could use some help at forward with the offense slowing down over the last 20 games, and depending on who you ask, maybe goalie as well.

Every deadline is different, but there are always clues hidden in the past to help predict what might occur over the next seven days.

Of course, the overall state of the team is the biggest driving factor as to what the front office is looking to do at the deadline. There does appear to be a correlation between the team’s record and the activity rate at the deadline, but it may not be what you’d expect.

VGK Record on Trade Deadline Day
2024: 33-23-7 (.579)
2023: 36-19-6 (.639)
2022: 34-26-4 (.563)
2021: 27-11-2 (.700)
2020: 34-22-8 (.594)
2019: 32-26-5 (.548)
2018: 41-16-4 (.705)

VGK’s most explosive deadlines were in 2019, 2020, and 2024. By record, those are three of the Golden Knights’ worst seasons on deadline day. The Golden Knights did make one significant move each of the two seasons they went to the Stanley Cup Final in 2018 and 2023, but Mark Stone, Robin Lehner, Noah Hanifin, and Tomas Hertl were all acquired in years in which the record was relatively down.

Another indicator might be the few games leading into the deadline.

VGK Record in 5 Games Before Trade Deadline
2024: 1-4-0
2023: 2-1-2
2022: 2-3-0
2021: 3-2-0
2020: 5-0-0
2019: 1-3-1
2018: 4-1-0

2020 is an outlier as VGK went heavy at that deadline despite going in hot adding Robin Lehner, Alec Martinez, and Nick Cousins. However, that season included a coaching change, an earlier deal in adding Chandler Stephenson, and Martinez was acquired five days before the deadline.

2019 and 2024 are more consistent examples as VGK limped in and used the deadline to give the team a boost.

This year’s team is 35-18-6 for a points percentage of .644. There are still two games for it to shift but they are likely to be closest to the 2023 Cup champs team. That team spent a 1st round pick (Zach Dean) to get Ivan Barbashev a week before the deadline and then on deadline day picked up Teddy Blueger and Jonathan Quick.

VGK are currently 2-1-0 with a pair of games to play before the clock strikes midnight. A couple wins or a couple of losses might impact what happens next Friday.

Either way, the writing is on the wall. More likely than not, the Golden Knights will be active once again, but don’t hold your breath waiting for a blockbuster.

      Totally, Completely, Absolutely!!
But what would we be prepared to give up to get him back, and would Sabres be moved to accept what we are offering??

Current backup goalie will not take them to the promise land.

Trump Announces Pardon for Baseball Legend Pete Rose

President Trump has declared his intention to pardon Pete Rose, the iconic baseball player banned from Major League Baseball (MLB) for betting on games. Despite the term ‘posthumously’ being used in some reports, Pete Rose is indeed still alive, highlighting a need for clarification in the discourse. Trump has openly criticized MLB for excluding Rose from the Baseball Hall of Fame, emphasizing his record-breaking hits and his loyalty to his team by betting on their wins. This move has reignited discussions on whether MLB should reconsider Rose’s eligibility for the Hall of Fame, although the pardon itself does not alter MLB’s rules directly. Online, fans and commentators are divided; some advocate for Rose’s induction due to his monumental contributions to baseball, while others argue that the integrity of the game should remain paramount.

Two tuff games coming . Need at least one of them. Then, trade deadline! You just know the McGMs are going to do something. Could that earlier trade to the Preds for “future considerations” BE Marchy? You never know!

Hard to believe the Canes would successfully trade for Rantanen and not cough up another half mil or whatever he is asking, but word is they may not. Most teams have the cap space to rent him but few can come up with the trade package. Canucks are probably the front runner with Pettersson but would CAR take on the $11m with the uncertainty around if he can perform up to his salary?

I watched most of the YouTube the year Rantanen scored 56 goals and he did not appear all that dependent on MacKinnon to score. He has averaged 38 goals per 82 games. Well above a point a game. Would be unbelievable with Eichel. I just know McCrimmon wants a winger younger, healthier, and more high powered than Stone to skate with Eichel and I’m sure he’d pay but this would probably be too steep. One would think.

With respect to Rantanen I forgot about Marner didn’t I and he is in the last year of his contract. He never underperforms except maybe in the playoffs.

I’m thinking management doesn’t need to see the results of the next two games (NJ and Tor) to know if there will be any action on Friday. Go big or go home.

Connor McDavid would be a cool addition. That guy is pretty good.
