The Golden Knights have traded defenseman Kaedan Korczak to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Parker Wotherspoon. Pittsburgh retains 50% of Wotherspoon’s contract which makes his cap hit in Vegas $500,000 for one season.
Wotherspoon is a 28-year-old left-handed stay-at-home defenseman who played heavy minutes with the Penguins last season. Partnered with Erik Karlsson he logged more than 20 minutes per night and was one of Pittsburgh’s top penalty killers.
Wotherspoon scored three goals and 27 assists in 80 games, all career highs in the NHL, last season.

A VGK Fan
this will be good cap wise and also help give mcnabb or theo a break on the PK. sucks losing a right hand defenseman, but it is what it is
rb7
good move. saves 2.5 m in cap space, and gets a better dman who will replace Lauzon
rb7
edit…make that 2.75 m saved
Pistol Pete
Figure a way to dump Hill’s $6.25 and that’s
$9 mil. If there is a way to get Werenski or Larkin they’ll figure out the cap.

This whole Defensemen trading, acquiring, hoping, overpaying and oversigning it seems has my head spinning. We used to have a great defensive team for years, especially when we won the cup. Soooo, let’s they try to get more offensive with our D – trade a conditional 3’rd round which I believe turned into a 2nd for Noah Hannifin. Get rid of a stay at home D by trading Hague…Trade a 2nd and a 3rd, as well as a good stay at home guy in Whitecloud for another offensive D man in Andeersson. Now this year our D gets exposed with terrible turnovers, panicking under pressure, bad puck management, lack of fundamentals.
So they obvious solution, draft a bunch of defensemen, trade for a stay at home defensemen to get better at defense, which you were with the guys you got rid of….
Are we admitting we made mistakes with Hannifin, Andersson, Lauzon, etc? Nope gonna sign one of them to a huge deal. Will we be wondering next year how our Defense got so leaky again??? Hmmm IDK, just saying…..

Very good summation of what we have seen since 2023 Ghost!

Nope we’re doubling down on our mistakes just resigned Lazon and tomorrow will see Anderson the great back what a cluster.

Young kid. I liked him. Upside potential. Regressed this year. Wotherspoon is a decent stay at home defenseman. +18 overall, TOI of just north of 18 minutes per game. 4 goals and 42 assists in 4 NHL seasons. He’s 28, Korczak will be 25.
I was more upset over losing The Chief.

Elliot Friedman says a lot of people talking to Mc Crimmon about Mitch Marner. Perhaps Florida which was on his trade list. Don’t know how real it is but he is credible.

Jeremy Lazon 6 years at4 million. Mc Crimmon has lost his marbales. Fire him immediately.
Pistol Pete
We still own his rights is the point to signing him just ahead of free agency. Potential trade piece.

I do have 2 comments about the transactions today in no particular order.
Im not averse to signing Lauzon to a team friendly contract, but this contract is only friendly to Lauzon who made out like a bandit. I dont know the nuts and bolts of the contract, if it is guaranteed or not, but the term and the years are baffling.
I felt before the season the Korczak was going to grow quickly into an excellent replacement for the aging Pietrangelo, and was very disappointed that he never grew quickly into anything, instead mainly regressed as the season went.
I have zero clue about Wotherspoon except for what ive read, but it seemed like an avenue to a bigger acquisition by paring down the salary cap , that is until Lauzon was given THAT contract, and unfortunately that seems to be a prelude to VASTLY overpaying Andersson!!
