With the regular season right around the corner, it’s the time of year when major hockey news outlets like to publish lists of the best players in the NHL. TSN, Sportsnet, The Hockey News, and NHL Network have all released their Top 50 players in the league, and it is tough sledding for the Pacific Division.
For Vegas, they have exactly one representative on each of the four lists. Jack Eichel cracked the Top 50 on every one, but his ranking ranged wildly. NHL Network is the most bullish on Eichel placing him at #17, ahead of Roman Josi, Miro Heiskanen, and Jack Hughes, while The Hockey News has him all the way down at #40 behind Jason Robertson and Matt Barzal.

The most well-represented team in the Pacific Division, and one of the best in the league, is the Edmonton Oilers. Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Evan Bouchard, and Zach Hyman all cracked the top 50 on each of the four lists. McDavid, of course, is #1 for everyone, and Draisaitl is right behind in the Top 5 as well.
The only other Pacific Division team to have a player listed is the Vancouver Canucks, and they have three. Quin Hughes is in the Top 10 across the board while Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller each made the cut by all four outlets.
Not a single player from any of the Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, or Seattle Kraken was listed among any of the four lists.
That’s right, five of the eight teams in the division do not boast a single player among the Top 50 in the NHL. The lists have between 10-13 teams without representation, meaning the Pacific accounts for 36%-50% of those teams.
The division is slowly getting better, but yet again, it’ll likely be the weakest of the four, and probably by a decent margin.

Iranian missile attack underway against Israel
Iran’s anticipated ballistic missile attack against Israel is now underway, according to Fox News Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yingst, citing an Israeli source.
Yingst said initial reports indicate that around 100 missiles have been fired toward Israel. Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system could be seen intercepting the projectiles.
The attack appears to be unfolding in waves. The IDF released a statement saying “Iran’s attack is continuing” and “the Aerial Defense Array is currently identifying and intercepting launches.”
Iran previously launched a failed missile attack on Israel in April of this year.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said this latest barrage of missiles is in retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, Lebanon, in an Israeli airstrike late last week and the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July, according to Yingst.
The Israeli Defense Forces said in a statement earlier that “A short while ago, missiles were launched from Iran towards the State of Israel.”
“In the last few minutes, the Home Front Command has distributed life-saving instructions in various areas across the country,” the IDF said. “The public is asked to adhere to the Home Front Command’s guidelines. Upon hearing a siren, you must enter a protected space and remain there until further notice.”
Sirens could be heard going off across Israel during the attack.
“The IDF is doing and will continue to do everything necessary to protect the civilians of Israel. The IDF is fully prepared for both defense and offense at peak readiness,” IDF Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said in a statement.
“Continue to act responsibly and keep calm, as you have done so far, and make sure to follow the guidelines. We are strong and can handle this event as well,” he added.

Rose admitted in his 2004 autobiography that he bet on baseball, including Reds games, though he said he never bet against his own team. My childhood hero. I watched him play every games since 1955. A very humble man with incredible talent. After home games at Olympia, the players walked out of the locker room and mingled with fans signing autographs. As a young boy, I had dozens and dozens of Gordie autographs on game night magazines. Honestly, Gordie would stay in the walkway for as long as any fan wanted to talk with him or get his autograph. Especially touching, from about 1958 to 1960, there was this paraplegic boy in a wheelchair whose parents would bring him to the walkway. Gordie would look for this little boy and walk directly over to him. The boy just beaming with smiles. Gordie would tickle him and whisper in his ear. The boy had the biggest smile. Gordie was a wonderful man …….. Mr. Hockey. My hero. God bless Gordie Howe.

I can’t comment on Joe DiMaggio or Ted Williams as to their greatness nor can I attest to Gordon Howe and his greatness….what I did see was that while he was playing in his 40’s.. an obviously amazing feat!!!….he was barely touched or challenged…not because of his reputation as a guy not to be messed with… but rather a reverence and hesitation to engage an aging icon of the sport.
What I will say with assured confidence is that Bobby Orr was the greatest of all time… and yes I rank Mario Lemiuex ahead of Wayne Gretzky as well…and as an added bonus the greatest pure goal scorer ever was from the HATED islanders… Mike Bossy!!

My thoughts are that Gordy was the toughest player of all time. If the greatest player ever is based on scoring then yea the great one #99 is the man. But the great 8 is gunning for the greatest goal scorer, so? Also what about that guy up in Edmonton? It’s just very difficult to compare players from different eras in any sport!
