Golden Knights On Historic Run Since All Star Break

(Photo Credit: SinBin.vegas Photographer Brandon Andreasen)

After the Golden Knights made it five straight to open the season last night, this tweet was making the rounds on whatever they call Twitter nowadays.

I just wanted to take a moment to highlight it because of how insanely ridiculous it is. The Golden Knights have won 47 of their last 62 games. Just that alone, let that sink in for a moment. Then, consider that 16 of the 47 wins were in the playoffs en route to a Stanley Cup. It’s out of this world.

The Golden Knights have won 20 games by at least three goals in the last 62… they’ve only lost 15. In fact, they’ve won more games by at least four goals than they have lost by more than one.

Won by 1: 17
Won by 2: 6
Won by 3: 10
Won by 4+: 10
Lost by 1: 8
Lost by 2: 1
Lost by 3: 3
Lost by 4+: 3

What makes it even crazier though is the balance in which the Golden Knights are doing it. Of those 47 wins, five different goalies have won games including two in the playoffs.

Adin Hill: 20-6-0
Laurent Brossoit: 12-2-3
Jonathan Quick: 5-2-2
Logan Thompson: 4-0-0
Jiri Patera: 2-0-0

On the scoring side, not a single Golden Knight ranks in the top 20 in points or top 30 in goals in the regular season during that span. Instead, 24 different Golden Knights have scored a goal and 26 have registered at least one point.

19 players have at least five goals, 10 players have at least 10 goals, and 12 have at least 20 points in the last 62 games.

Marchessault – 28 goals / 52 points
Eichel – 21 goals / 63 points
Stephenson – 17 goals / 47 points
Karlsson – 15 goals / 41 points
Amadio – 15 goals / 26 points
Barbashev – 14 goals / 35 points
Smith – 12 goals / 38 points
Stone – 11 goals / 29 points
Howden – 11 goals / 23 points
Roy – 10 goals / 23 points
Pietrangelo – 7 goals / 34 points
Dorofeyev – 7 goals / 10 points
Theodore – 6 goals / 37 points
Whitecloud – 6 goals / 14 points
Carrier – 6 goals / 13 points
Kessel – 5 goals / 17 points
Martinez – 5 goals / 14 points
Kolesar – 5 goals / 12 points
Cotter – 5 goals / 9 points
Hague – 4 goals / 15 points
Blueger – 3 goals / 8 points
Hutton – 1 goal / 6 points
Korczak – 1 goal / 2 points
Rondbjerg – 1 goal / 2 points
Pachal – 1 goal / 1 point
McNabb – 0 goals / 9 points

And maybe my favorite stat of all, there is just one player of the 27 who has played for the Golden Knights in that span that has a minus in the +/- column. It’s Teddy Blueger at -1, and he played just 24 of the games. 18 different players are at least +10 in the last 40 regular season plus 22 playoff games.

This truly has been an historic run the Golden Knights have been on. And the train doesn’t seem to be coming to a stop any time soon.

I have mixed feelings about this reporting

Those of us here in Vegas and paying attention know how well this team has played. But we continue to get short changed and ignored by the Hockey Media, and the gambling public (evidenced by VGK being a home dog against Dallas)

We know that much of this bias comes from East Coast Hockey writers being in bed for about 50% of VGK games. It also comes from the attention paid to top NHL stars, such as McDavid, which blinds the casual fan to what it takes to win in the NHL.

Anyway, part of me wants this team to get their due Nationally…..they deserve it. BUT – if this continues, I will continue to get better odds when I bet (I bet the money line anytime VGK). And hope the guys continue to play harder to prove the critics wrong.

    Quite a quandary.

PS – EDM 1-3 after losing at PHI. CUP OR BUST

Its not just just an East coast thing, most coverage is centered on Canadian & original 6 teams. Not to mention the wall-to-wall excessive coverage of the new Golden Boy in Chi-Town.

To be fair, Defensive play doesn’t sizzle as much as other teams Offense centered play, but we all know what wins Cups…..

This bothered me for the first few years, but not anymore. We know what are team is and has accomplished. Now as SC Champions the teams/players around the league do respect us and realize how good we are. The jealousy of the original six and especially Toronto is THEIR problem. Not ours!

    • Sorvino

Unbelievable! You are wrong jailbird. It should have bothered you for the first few years that we were disrespected. I can’t believe it didn’t bother you.. and why would it bother you now. We are Stanley Cup champions. It should not bother you now.

what gets me is the droning on of our local announcers repeating every fact from SC run last year, HEY TAKE A NOTE us real fans were there. We don’t need this recap. Just tell us what players are out on the ice for once.

East coast bias- ba haa haa haaa haaaaaaa ! They think their shit don’t stink, it’s real and it exists.

I don’t care how the team “starts”, it is how they finish that is important. Reminder, face plant, and realty check. What happened with Boston last year ?? Hello.

    • David T

The local media recaps it because their are those who like the VGK, but can’t always watch them play (jobs, etc). Also, some are new to hockey and didn’t follow the team as close till now. Some people watched the games but never followed up on all the stats to understand it. Some looked at the stats but didn’t understand what they were reading. Some aren’t VGK fans and they just got a lesson on who our team is. Lots of reasons can play into it. The most important thing to remember or concern ourselves with is that the VGK is winning.

Yup. Peaking last spring did lead to victory. Every win helps for year-end positioning, but the chemistry, health, coaching and peak performance is what can lead to another cup. Not easy with teams like the Avs in the way, but it can happen. Need to remain hungry and motivated. I savor the cup victory, but last year’s stats no longer mean much to me, and I ignore the needless trivia from Dave G (which is not easy).

Vegas34 air channel rocks! Watching the HSK game. Free hockey!! By the way, those CUDA SJ sweaters look better than the Sharks ones lol.

    • THE hockey GOD

the D Backs baseball jerseys have to the one of the coolest in all of sports !!

yes Cuda sweater looks ok, but their team logo with shark-cuda looks a bit too “duckish” to me. And we can’t have copy cats, let the mighty ‘ducks’ keep their childish emblem to themselves.

Sorry for all the repeat posts. Malfunction with the moderators and I thought it didn’t publish/post? My previous posts disappeared only to show up again.

    • TS

David, fyi: there is no moderator..trust me!! Your post no doubt resonates with many VGK fans….I never get tired of hearing and seeing CUP Highlights!5

      • David T

Thanks. It is moderated though. It even said, “Awaiting moderation”. Than it completed disappeared. The 2nd time, my WiFi was running slow so I hit the send twice. Oh well, at least I managed to get my post out, lol.

Let’s take a moment to thank George McPhee, Kelly McCrimmon and the rest of the FO for the amazing job they did building this team, this organization and delivering A Stanley Cup to Las Vegas in a remarkable six years. Not to open old wounds but some readers may recall that I was one of the fans to support the FO through thick and thin. I could just never understand the bashers when this was an FO that took a team to the Cup Finals in their inaugural season and then went on to make key player acquisitions to build on that first season shrewdly recognizing that it could not be replicated going forward without acquiring additional player talent. Well, they proved the naysayers wrong in the biggest way. So here we sit today with a team and organization eager and ideally positioned to win another Cup. It just does not get any better.

    • TS

Absolutely, PP! BTW, were you ever a diplomat?? It would been a good fit for you!!

    • Sorvino

Pistol Pete, it always baffled my mind as well. How people would trash the front office and then hiding behind it calling it constructive criticism. How the fuck do you constructively criticize all of this success? I never appreciated it because it sounded unintelligent and made the fan base sound like spoiled brats. Not making the playoffs was probably helpful and instrumental in eventually winning the cup. You’ve got to stumble a little bit. Even this year it would probably benefit the team to go on a little bit of a losing streak in the middle of the season. Don’t want to be Boston who had absolutely no adversity in the regular season last year and then when the first bit of adversity came to them against Florida in the first round, they couldn’t handle it.

      • David T

I so agree. Lots of “Negative Nancy’s” out there. Never happy with anything. Hockey and watching the NFL brings me joy. Battling cancer and other health problems (and winning) keeps me exhausted, but I still enjoy watching games on TV, or, on the radio while I work (Uber). So, when these unhappy people look for reasons to complain, I can’t help but to laugh. Be happy and live for the moment and root for your favorite team, whoever that might be. The “Negative Nancy’s” have no clue about how to enjoy and savor the moment. It could all be gone at the snap of the fingers. Enjoy the VGK. They are such a moral boost to this city after the Mandalay Bay incident. People have such short memories.

      • Pistol Pete

I got as much or more from this the second viewing. The picture of competence.

A way above average youth player in Canada (he was good enough to be drafted into the WHL, played a couple seasons and opted for a college education at Michigan where he played all four years captaining his final year…I played prep school hockey in Connecticut and know how elite you have to be to make NCAA Division 1). I recommend “It Hurts To Win”. He writes well.

    • THE hockey GOD

“I could just never understand the bashers when this was an FO ”

you will see that their name is mud, their foot permanently stuck in their mouths, and most of them don’t post here any more.

  9. Jailbird

We will have some up and down stretches. To be expected. I just feel our team is so deep and balanced we will keep bad times to a minimum. For now, let’s keep this streak going against the hawks tonight. These wins/pts mean just as much now as they do in March. Keep it going boys!

    • David T

Absolutely. This team is deep. Let’s enjoy the moment and ride the wave. Nothing lasts forever, but the VGK is primed to have success for a good amount of time. Go, Knights, go!

  10. Tim

It seems like were all on the same page the league reeks of jealousy. We accomplish one first after another and it bothers the hell out of them, First season make the Cup finals we cheated in the expansion draft not really you other GM’s got snookered. In 6 years second most wins only Tampa has more. 5 playoff appearances in 6 years. Voted loudest and best show in the NHL at T-Moble. There are many more first and tonight will be another. Tonight we break the 1985-86 Oilers season opening win streak to further piss off people. We’ll have a good year whether we win the Cup or not but we’ve been to the mountain top and all you Mapleleaf fans who have waited since 1967 to win the Stanley Cup good luck with that. The bias Canadian media is another joke but that’s a story for another day.

    • David T

I have my fingers crossed for tonight’s game. Living in Vegas has been great. Driving Uber has been fun during home games. I get to pick up fans to and from the games. Some are rooting for the other team, but the friendly bantering is great. Truly enjoyable times when the VGK are playing at home.

  11. THE hockey GOD

mini knights off to 3 and 0 start.

Cormier needs to step up his game

catch the highlight reel goal for 12 of mini knights !

  12. Tim

THG seems like you watch a lot of Silver Knights Games. I which I could but I don’t have cable so I don’t get channels 34 or any regular TV cable provides. The good news is I pay 40 dollars every 6 months for all the sport channels, movie channels etc. so we get every baseball game and hockey games of every team but not always our hometown announcers. By the way some announcers from other teams are fair when there calling the game and then some like Colorado and the other night Winnipeg are such homers.

    • THE hockey GOD

      Tim
the mini Knights are not on cable as far as I know, they televise a few games on local TV but most are on the radio in Vegas. One way to watch them if via THEAHL website.

Not even streaming services cover them. In regard to NHL games, I like to watch TSN the canadian hockey sports channel. They televise all the canadian nhl teams. They have homers, too, but they are very skilled at covering the game. If you can find a streaming box or service that covers all the NHL games , this is definitely the way to go (of course you can pay a lot more if you go directly to NHL website). The Hockey Night in Canada game is usually tops. I find Toronto announcers to be most arrogant. Ottawa are pretty good. The Calgary and Edmonton games are good. I don’t have much of opinion on HABS or Canucks. Only issue I no control over is when the games are broadcast in FRENCH.

I am not happy at all with the Canadian – India political spat going on right now, both sides need to show some maturity and stand down.

  13. Jailbird

Don’t overlock the hawks tonight. This is their home opener. Fans will be going crazy . Get thru the first period then take over!
