In the second deal right before the Expansion Draft roster freeze the Golden Knights have acquired 23-year-old center, Brett Howden, from the New York Rangers in exchange for a 4th round pick in 2022 and Nick DeSimone.

Howden is a former 1st round pick (2016, #27 overall) who is 6’3″ and 200 pounds. He’s a center that has shown limited scoring prowess in his 178 career NHL games. Last season he scored just one goal in 42 games but was able to score nine in 70 and six in 66 the previous two seasons.

Wow, this is NOT the answer. Brett Howden in 178 games since 2017 has a total of 16 goals, 33 assists, 49 points and is a -29 plus/minus. His average TOI is 13:40 over that time span.

We gave up picks for this guy?

What does the FO know that the stat sheet isn’t telling us?

    • George L.

This is exactly the answer. We don’t need overpriced talent. We need affordable talent. We’re close. Not rebuilding.

      • Richard Santomauro

I agree George. Our top 3 lines are set even if Smith is moved. Out of the two acquisitions I think Patrick has the highest ceiling. If Patrick plays up to his draft pick and Krebs does too we will have solved the Center question for all 4 lines and still have plenty of talent with Roy and Marchy who can also play C.

      • I agree 100%, we don’t need an overhaul !

wow they are piling up the center position today

    roll the dice baby !

Brett Howden C, Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights have gotten Brett Howden from the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2022 fourth-round pick and Nick DeSimone.

Howden had a goal and seven points in 42 contests last season. He signed a one-year, $885,000 contract for the 2021-22 campaign.

Looks like the elusive big deal is news of day , so far.

You want to read what Rangers’ fans think of this guy, go read Blueshirt Banter. They are having a party that they got a fourth round pick for this guy.

      • Contact Tracer

        Damn Right!

I go to In-N-Out solely to watch the dishwashers perform. Just like going to NHL games. I just watch the refs, that’s all.

Howden and Patrick do not necessary need to stay in Vegas.
They could also become trading assets in a trade with Seattle.

I am almost sure that one if not both are not playing in Vegas next season.

  5. Mike StG

Howden could be an effective C4. Put Roy at RW and leave Carrier at LW. Pretty decent 4th line with limited scoring potential. They’d score some greasy goals though.

NONE of these guys showed up on ANYONES blabber here, the past weeks.

Now, why did I expect THAT! ha ha

the AVs appeared to have found a path to avert the expansion draft, will they take it ? Will the KRAKEN be deterred ?

    Gabriel Landeskog LW, Colorado Avalanche
According to a league source, Gabriel Landeskog won’t be protected by Colorado for the Seattle expansion draft.

The Avalanche will be able to protect someone else as a result, but Landeskog will be able to negotiate a contract with the Seattle Kraken. If he comes to terms on a new deal with the Kraken then he will count as the team’s selection in the expansion draft from Colorado. Landeskog will still be eligible for unrestricted free agency on July 28 if he remains unsigned, but a return to the Avalanche would conceivably be an option.

  9. THE hockey GOD

wow Price could come west to haunt VGK

    Carey Price G, Montreal Canadiens
Carey Price has reportedly agreed to waive his no-movement clause so that the Montreal Canadiens could expose him in the upcoming Seattle expansion draft.

That way the Canadiens could protect Jake Allen instead. The thinking is that Seattle won’t claim Price because he’ll come with a $10.5 million cap hit for each of the next five seasons and he’s about to turn 34-years-old. Still, this is a bold move by Montreal. Price was a huge part of the Canadiens run to the Stanley Cup Final and if Seattle actually decides to take him then the Canadiens will be without their franchise goaltender. It’s worth noting that Price only waived his no-movement clause for the purposes of the expansion draft, so Seattle can’t simply claim him and then attempt to trade him elsewhere.

    Yea baby!

  12. Richard Santomauro

An aging AO (WSH) is unprotected and available. Interesting. Possible deal to bring Ovechkin to Vegas with a deal with the Kraken?
