Eichel Cracks NHL’s Top Ten Best Players For 2025-26 Season

It’s plausible that we spend too much of our attention on VGK superstar Jack Eichel. Our answer is, why shouldn’t we? His unsigned extension is one of the bigger storylines around the league and he happened to be named one of the top players in the entire NHL. Even surpassing one of the game’s all-time greats.

Sportsnet’s 2025-26 Top Ten Players

  1. Connor McDavid
  2. Nathan MacKinnon
  3. Leon Draisaitl
  4. Cale Makar
  5. Nikita Kucherov
  6. Quinn Hughes
  7. Auston Matthews
  8. Kirill Kaprizov
  9. Jack Eichel
  10. Aleksander Barkov

Last season Eichel couldn’t crack the Top 20 as then 37-year-old Sidney Crosby remained among Sportsnet’s ten best. Surprisingly, Eichel was ranked 26th overall last season which was unfairly low. Now, Sportsnet super boosted the Golden Knights top center 17 spots higher. It appears Eichel’s high 2025-26 rankings were also an omission for placing him so low last year.

Sportsnet mentions Eichel’s top ten point total as well as his fifth-place finish for the Hart Trophy (5th Place) and Selke Award (5th) last season. Whereas in the past, the star center wouldn’t have received any praise for his two-way play. Now, there’s no doubting his high-end skill on both sides of the ice. Since his move to Vegas, many consider him a complete player.

The top ten rankers also highlighted that Eichel dressed for more games last season than he averages over his career. His 77 appearances in 2024-25 tied for the second most games he’s played in one 82-game period. Considering he’s healthy entering this season, the expectations for the 28-year-old are once again very high.

There’s a chance that Sportsnet’s 2026-27 Top 10 rankings have Eichel even higher than ninth overall. Certainly, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Leon Draisaitl and Cale Makar will round out the top four, but Nikita Kucherov is four-years older and Auston Matthews has dropped two years running. It’s possible after another top five Hart Trophy finish, Vegas’ superstar could leapfrog one of the two. Sooner or later, he’ll hop over both in AAV as well.

    Ovechkin?

Well following that meaningless last of the preseason games loss to the Sharks, the sky is falling for some fans with one even predicting 50/50 that Cassidy is gone by January. I would like to remind the board that Bednar is still coaching the Avs following rounds one, two and one exits after winning his Cup. It is true that Cassidy needs to push his team to score more in the playoffs. Hopefully he is successful.

The same idiots have been saying that about Butch the past couple years!

      • Pistol Pete

His team scores a lot in the regular season and not so much in the playoffs McCrimmon knows it’s not the coach per se. A veteran group has to figure it out. Basically EDM was the better team that time around. It happens.

        They are clueless

        • Emmanuel

Theyre going to win, but the only question is “can they win the Cup after losing the best D in franchise history”.

Another VGK on waivers, VGK may put in a claim on some of these late players if they can’t get jump on teams ahead of them. These are last second waivers before season starts. Some on bubble.

  6. Donald J Trump

Senate DEMS voted down three more stop gap measures to keep the government open. In Senate you need 60 votes for these measures. All GOP voted for keeping the government open.

When Shutdown schumer says it is the GOP, he’s is lying. The HOUSE also voted to keep government open.

Dems and Schumer own this shutdown.

  7. VGK fan

It would be great if they signed Eichel now before he has a 100 point season this year and his price tag goes up even more.
