Draft Pick Swap Between New York And Chicago Oddly Involves Vegas

Photo from NHL.com

On May 5th the Golden Knights reign as Stanley Cup champions officially came to an end. With the first round exit, and the lackluster regular season performance that saw them as the 8-seed in the playoffs, Vegas locked in the 19th overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft.

It’s set to be one of the most premium picks in the history of the franchise. In 2017, the first draft, they selected at #6 (Cody Glass), #13 (Nick Suzuki), and #15 (Erik Brannstrom). Since, just once have the Golden Knights made a selection prior to #29, when in 2019 they picked Peyton Krebs at #17.

Weirdly, there’s been some movement around the Golden Knights’ 19th overall pick. The New York Islanders held the 18th pick and the Chicago Blackhawks (via Tampa) held #20. On May 25th, 20 days after Vegas secured #19, the two teams swapped selections.

Chicago got #18 and #50 in exchange for #20, #54, and #61. That’s right, Chicago spent a 2nd round pick in order to jump over Vegas. The question is, why?

The first idea would be that they covet a player they also expect the Golden Knights to be keen on. If they are aware Vegas likes a certain player, they can make the move now so their planning can be a little more concrete with the pick in front of VGK as opposed to behind them.

There’s also been some suggestion that the Blackhawks may be setting themselves up to make another, even bigger, move getting them even further up the draft board.

Either way, someone other than the Islanders is going to make the pick before the Golden Knights at The Sphere on June 28th.

Vegas is intrinsically linked to that 18th pick now, the one right before their own. Elias Pettersson, Martin Necas, Alex Newhook, and Ridly Grieg are currently part of the group of NHL standouts who were selected one pick before the Golden Knights. There will soon be another one, and there’s a strong chance he’s a guy Vegas was interested in.

G are swapable., but true they need scorers, too many set up men, hope Hertl recovers his scoring touch.

Im still guessing there will be a BIG move at the draft, moving up for a hogh pick? Swapping out D for a scorer?

In a bold move, House Republicans have pressed for criminal charges against Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden, and son, Hunter Biden. The recommendation is based on charges that the two blatantly lied in their testimonies during the impeachment trial of President Joe Biden. Republican congressmen James Comer, Jim Jordan, and Jason Smith have accused Hunter and James of making “materially false statements” under oath, and have insisted that these statements link to Joe Biden’s “knowledge of and role in his family’s influence peddling.”

The three committee chairs referred to testimony about the Bidens’ overseas financial gains, saying that the congressmen “has no reservations” about their “charged statements.” They have found enough evidence “from just the last year” to call for “a criminal investigation into the Bidens’ outside sources of income.” These congressmen further state that the Bidens used “a tangled web of shell companies and family money to grow rich beyond their means,” and suggest that Joe Biden was well aware of their actions.

The committee heads accuse Hunter of lying, “not once, not twice, but three times,” during his testimony. His lies revolve around his relation to a business that has allegedly helped him funnel in money from overseas dealings. The letter addresses his role with Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC, claiming to be the “corporate secretary,” and mentions threatening text messages he allegedly sent to a Chinese businessman. The congressmen also argue that Hunter told two different accounts of the recipient of these messages – one with “the same surname” and one with the intended receiver. These text messages, however, show that Hunter was “not afraid to wield,” allegedly using his father’s name as a motivation.

The letter also targets James Biden, Joe Biden’s brother, who they accuse of lying about meeting Hunter Biden’s business associate, Tony Bobulinski. While under oath, James Biden stated that he did not attend a meeting with Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Tony Bobulinski at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on May 2, 2017. However, Republicans claim that James did attend this now-infamous meeting, pointing out a “contradiction.” In their minutes-long testimonies, the Bidens allegedly make a “calculated,” “clumsy attempt,” to “insulate Joe Biden from the duly authorized impeachment inquiry.” This calculated offense is what the letter says will surely “lead,” whoever supported the Big Guy to believe they have “something to hide.

It’s time once again for the debut of a new Star Wars series on Disney+, which means it’s also time for Star Wars fans to be horrified and despondent over what Disney has done to their beloved space opera franchise. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your own point of view), Disney has a lot more Star Wars in the hopper.

The Babylon Bee has obtained the following list of new Star Wars characters coming soon to Disney+:

The Transdalorian: He was once a proud Mandalorian but now lives as a female warrior fighting to bring all cis-villains to justice.

Boba Fetish: This bounty hunter’s armor is outfitted with every outlandish toy and adult accessory you can imagine.

C-3PLGBTQ: A droid that is fluent in over six million genders.

4Hannah Solo: Following in the proud Disney tradition, the boring, overly masculine Han Solo character will now be replaced by a strong female who is better than everyone else.

Jar Jar Kinks: A character designed to appeal to children of all ages, this Gungan will introduce your kids to the “grown-up” side of the Star Wars universe.

6Drag Queen Amidala: Once a bearded smuggler named Bork Thandar, he now spends his time wearing fabulous dresses and reading stories to the galaxy’s children.

7Lando Palestinian: A refugee from an oppressed planet, this character will receive the sympathy of every other character… or else.

8Admiral Allahu Akbar: Everyone will know “it’s a trap” when they fall victim to this character’s suicide bomber vest.
9 (slmzzH-)omo the Hutt: He’s here, he’s queer, and you don’t want to be chained up as his slave.
10Shebacca: Born a Wookiee but identifying as an Ewok, this character dominates all Endor sporting events.
Just think of the amazing stories featuring the characters listed above that will be enjoyed by a dwindling, apathetic audience!

Officials with the Oakland (for now) A’s squandered a prime opportunity to connect with the Las Vegas market when they announced recently that they would play home games in Sacramento rather than Southern Nevada beginning next year until the completion of their proposed stadium on the Strip, scheduled for 2028. They’re stumbling again by making noise about potentially playing a handful of home games away from Las Vegas each season even after the new 33,000-seat ballpark is open for business.

As part of the stadium process, the Major League Baseball club has presented a proposed 30-year non-relocation agreement to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, which will oversee the operation of the new facility on the southeast corner of Tropicana and the Strip. A draft copy of the document reveals that the team seeks permission to play as many as eight home games a season somewhere else each season. That’s nearly 10 percent of the home schedule.

A’s President Dave Kaval told the Review-Journal’s Mick Akers this week that such games could include “gem” events, such as the annual contest held at the Field of Dreams park in Iowa or international games scheduled by the league to promote the growth of the game in growing markets.

This would be “a huge way to promote the brand, to promote the city with Las Vegas on the chest in Korea or Japan,” he said.

Maybe. But those games are few and far between for most teams. They’re rare events, with MLB officials choosing the participants in advance for maximum draw. Suffice it to say that if the A’s don’t improve their on-field product, they’re unlikely to be considered for special neutral site games or series. But it sounds as though the A’s may have something additional in mind. A handful of “home” games each year in Northern California or Salt Lake City, perhaps?

Would not bother me in the slightest if McDavid and Draisaitl never win the Cup in Edmonton. Now if McDavid does not win there in the next two years I could see him moving on. In a sit down conversation with Gretzky that is on YouTube he refers to Edmonton as not a very pretty town. Frankly if I were him I would not say that about the place my fans call home but then perhaps he has never liked it there. No never mind what one might think I am tempted to suggest, nah it could happen. I am slightly luke warm when it comes to McDavid’s demeanor actually but then maybe he really does not like being in Edmonton and on a team that has basically sucked the whole time and it affects him. They are good now though. We’ll find out how starting Saturday.

An not a big fan of McDavid slamming his stick on the boards 2022-23 when he missed #60. That showed he cares about his stats perhaps more than leading his team to a Cup. Same for Draisaitl. Both entitled it seems. Both are pitching in defensively now though. I give them credit for that. Have to to go all the way.

edmonton is an industrial town driven by oil industry mostly, lib tards hate it.

and try everything in their power to regress

to cave man living. Back to nature bull shit, tree hugger bull shit.

they are not progressive in any name, way or fashion, they are truly regressive. Today it came out that Biden campaign pushed the “Russian conspiracy” lie regarding Hunter’s laptop, and their own (today ) DOJ is not confirming that. Talking about major election interference in 2020, this is what BIDEN’s campaign did. Everything they accuse Trump of doing , is what they do themselves. Sickening and pathetic. Party over country.

      • Alex

The party is over for you superstitious religious racist losers! Real socialism, the only responsible way to run a society, a family or any group of people, is here! Hooray! The evil white lower middle class angry closeted Americans are done!

  8. Tim

Lackluster season Ken that’s heresy telling it like it is. All year I beat the drum about a lackluster season of non- entertaining hockey and got roasted for it. Your the bean counter Ken as I requested many times how many Knights games were there where we scored 2 goals or less win or lose.
On a much more exciting note my Guardians are 40 and 20 playing exciting baseball while you all figure out who will take #19th in the hockey draft. Oh by the way by the luck of the ping pong balls the Guardians have the #1 pick in the baseball draft. So #1 in baseball or #19 in hockey which one do you think gets me excited?

    • knights fan in minny

no one gets excited about boring baseball

    • ThG

      what’s a guardian ?

and when a team like indians get a #1 draft pick, that tells you they have been sand bagging all last year.

I liked the indians when they had sudden sam mcdowell, luis tiant, lee stange, rocky colativo, Max Alvis, Chico Salmon, Leon Wagner, Davillio etc. man that team could hit, but they couldn’t field a lick. Strat had their OF at 4s, CF was 3. Whitaker was power hitting 1b a 4, larry brown short stop a 4 , Joe Azcue catcher a 4, Howser was ss/ 2b a 4/3. Their defense was horrid. Rocky in RF was a 3. They had a decent reliever, I forget his name- Don Mcmahon I think. Gary Bell, Sonny Siebert. Oh yeah they had Chuck Hinton in outfield. Another masher.

      just a little bit outside

    Go Florida! Fuck Edmonton! :0

    • knights fan in minny

      go oil fuck florida

      • Pistol Pete

You don’t think McDavid will switch teams if the Oilers don’t win a Cup in the next two years? And next year is the last of Draisaitl’s contract.

        • Pistol Pete

I would say if McDavid does not win a Cup in Edmonton he’ll want to go to where it’s most likely he’ll win one. It could happen this year though. Edmonton is deeper and more defensively minded than before. Skinner is looking decent too.

          • Pistol Pete

A huge series for McDavid. Huge. One way or the other.

          • knights fan in minny

skinner needs to play out of his mind i have never thought much of him he wins lots of gams because his team scores a lot florida will get in his face
