DALLAS STARS 3 VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 2 (VGK 3-1)

Recap: The Golden Knights aimed to sweep the Stars with a clinching victory in Dallas. William Karlsson got Vegas off to another strong start, scoring the game’s opening goal 4:17 into the opening twenty minutes. Ten minutes later Dallas took advantage of a Brayden McNabb high-sticking penalty and evened the score.

Dallas came out firing in the middle frame, quickly outshooting Vegas 6-0. Later in the period the Golden Knights top line sustained pressure in the offensive zone and Jonathan Marchessault tapped one in to give his team a 2-1 advantage. With under three minutes to play in the period Dallas jumped on a rebound to tie the game. The game was locked 2-2 after 40 minutes.

Both teams had chances throughout the final period but neither could find the back of the net. After 60 minutes the game needed overtime to decide a winner for the third time in four games. Three minutes into sudden death the Stars scored to win 3-2 and force a Game 5 in Las Vegas.

The Golden Knights will try and eliminate the Stars with a Game 5 win on Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 5PM. (Recap by Jason)

Analysis: The Golden Knights got off to the perfect start by scoring quickly. Then, the pushback that was expected came from Dallas and they started to take over the game. Adin Hill was tremendous in keeping the game close and VGK in the lead for a lot of it. Vegas looked its best in the 3rd, nearly finding a way to win it in regulation. McNabb takes a penalty in OT and the Stars made them pay. See ya Saturday. (Analysis by Ken)

I’m just going to park this right here. I put it on the previous thread when F-ing McNabb took his *first* stupid penalty:

Can someone explain to me why we run F-ing McNabb out there for 20:00 a night game after game after game? How many times is this that he has provided a major screwup in the first period of a playoff game? And don’t start with “how consistent” he is. He consistently sucks. We have three D-men–Hutton, Miromanov, and Pachal–that don’t get to play much who either are better than he is (Hutton) or would be with a little work (the other two).

How many more years are we going to have to watch this? (I know, two because, unbelievably, we RE-SIGNED him for three freaking years last off-season.) He is slow, he can’t skate, and he makes poor decisions slowly. I would really like a tutorial on why the VGK brain trust think he’s an NHL-level talent.

    • Rob S.

I also notice that Jason in his “recap” didn’t even mention that it was F-ing McNabb’s *second* stupid penalty of the game that was the reason the Stars won in OT. In fact, he didn’t even mention a power play.

    • Rob S.

And here was my thought right after the game before this article came up:

How ’bout that f-ing McNabb? A good argument could be made that he single-handedly lost that game. (And that’s saying something since nobody other than Hill, Marchessault, and Karlsson showed up tonight.)

    • Pistol Pete

Agree the high sticking was avoidable and in hindsight did end up costing the game in OT however let’s not not give McNabb credit for that incredible pass to set up Marchy’s goal. McNabb is a really solid big-bodied D who blocks shots and is an integral part of the VGK D corp which is widely regarded as the best in the NHL. Smart move by McCrimmon to extend him. We’re on the cusp of making another Cup final and McNabb has played his part.

    • Arnold Rothstein

Anyone blaming a player is clueless dumb ass hat, the Stars clearly out played the VGK, putting VGK players in untenable positions.

      What about the PK?

Or fact the Hill lost his stick on PP OT goal.

crickets…chirp…chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp , Yawn.

Most unsophisticated and dumbest fan base in history of NHL.

PDB clearly out coached Cassidy in this game, the look on cassidy’s face for most of the game was clearly discerning and one of consternation.

Now Stars have all momentum, with each passing period Panthers odds go down, and they are chomping more and more at the bit. Giving Barkoff, and others, time to heal their wounds, and rest.

Meanwhile the STars have all the momentum, coming into home arena the pressures is all on the home team. If Stars win next game, then series easily goes to seven games. And Stars get Benn back. A rested Benn.

Then we have the posters counting their chickens before the eggs have hatched. Much like when the VGK took game one against the Caps in the finals.

VGK Veterans from that series say “we learned our lesson”. Well so far that has not been the case. Subsequent series say otherwise.

Will the VGK retain the “nomina” they have gained over the years ( as the Vegas Golden Choke your Chickens (from the Shark, Habs, Caps, series, etc) ? Or will they find a way to finish the cornered “animal”. All the pressure is on the home team now.

unlike some hellspawn demons with multiple personalities and his/her fellow devil worshipers followers and minions who say “they have spoken “but they are just sick psychopaths needing an intervention. Where is ThG and his holy army of exorcists when they are needed to banish these demons from the sinbin. The sin bin, ha, where else would you find such evil luring and in great need of the almighty and holy cleansing? Where are you ThG ? Where ?

    • DMR

Agree…better options available but they keep trotting him out there!

  2. They were a sorry ass bunch tonight and gave Dallas every chance to win which ultimately was the case. Two PP goals thanks to stupid play by one who should know better. They took Dallas off life support and let them back in the series. This BS about winning the series at home very well might not happen. Obviously, Dallas wasn’t going to roll over which is understandable, what isn’t acceptable or understandable is for Vegas helping them which they did with some of their plays.

  3. Jailbird

Look, it wasn’t our best effort, but why all the over reacting, AGAIN? You can’t blame one guy for this. We played with no emotion at all, and still could have won the game. We had won 5 in a row and came in up 3-0 in series. This kind of game happens under those circumstances. Just settle down. Like I have said so many times, there are just to many one game over reactors on this blog. It’s the same people who did the same thing after game one vs the Jets. Have faith and shut the BS!

    • Jailbird – l am not over reacting l simply am staying the fact the team tonight allowed Dallas to get off life support. Two penalties by the same individual didn’t help. Was that the only reason we lost of course not. Teams win or loose as a team so all need to shoulder some responsibility. You could see the goals coming when they can’t get the puck out of their zone – that’s not one guy that’s whoever is on the ice at the the and that happened more than just the three goals they scored. Bottom line they didn’t play well enough to win and gave Dallas life and that is never a good thing. They know better as they have been down that road before which makes it unacceptable that’s all that was said.

like ferraro said vegas played the game dallas played to win

    • Michael

Brilliant post! All season, every time Vegas lose a game it is like “We won’t make the playoffs and our window has closed.” Evidently only going 82-0 and 16-0 is enough.

Vegas will win the cup, but a significant portion of the fickle, flakey, disloyal fan base do not deserve it.

  4. Pistol Pete

Possibly w/o the two McNabb penalties Vegas holds on to close the Stars out with a close playoff game 2-1 win. Oh well no point in whining about it. It happened, move onto Saturday.

    • B-Rad-Lee

Without Nabber’s primary assist on the second goal the States would not have needed OT.

  5. Brian Scro

I would just like to not have another Deboer/Pavelski/refs screwjob.

  6. Vic

Give Dallas credit as their key scorers and goalie won the game. Quick and Martinez remember very well beating the Sharks in the playoffs after the Sharks were up 3-0. Discussing the Panthers is nonsense until this series is over. Get er done Saturday and take no prisoners.

  7. Frank

Take-a-way…. They played their best game and we played our worst (arguably) and they needed an OT power play to win…… We got this!

    • TS

Frank, exactly. We played ONE bad game out of 4, and fans PANIC. it’s a damn good thing that fans aren’t PLAYING, cause their attitudes and would no doubt BENCH ‘EM!!

  8. Pistol Pete

A game 5 is more revenue for the team right? Besides Ken now has a shot at Vegas in five lol. Low scoring playoff hockey. Only game three was a blowout, other three OT, Like the east, two closely matched team battles.

  9. Pistol Pete

An absolutely beautiful drive the net tip-in goal by Karlsson from Smith to open the scoring. Per above the two careless penalties by McNabb may have cost the Knights a win in this tightly fought battle. Great stats for both goalies.

Whoever will claim Vegas did not “show up” does not understand this team or NHL hockey not to mention the playoffs. You work this hard all season, this postseason and you don’t show up for every game? Sounds like postgame whining to me.

    • Pistol Pete

So fine there was a lucky bounce aspect to Karlsson’s goal but it was a good rush and when you go to the net as he did good things tend to happen. Still a well earned goal imo.

  10. Pistol Pete

After not being all that great games 1 & 2 and horrible game 3, Oettinger (37/39) pretty much stole game 4 including robbing Stone in period 1 preventing Vegas from going up 2-0. Hill (39/42) was not far behind. Had the VGK won in OT, Hill’s performance could have been called a steal. Good goaltending that game and I would say good defending by the skaters on both teams. Tightly contested hard hitting playoff hockey. Saturday is going to be a battle.

    • Pistol Pete

And Brayden, please buddy, appreciate your shot blocking and big-bodied defending but please be more careful on the high sticking!

  11. Pistol Pete

Ken’s Vegas in five lives to see another day!

  12. Pistol Pete

And Ken made a good point in the Periscope. Let’s lift the Conference Cup at home not in Dallas!

    • TS

Pp, I want the clincher at home, too. The FANS are soooo ready to Celebrate!!

  13. knights fan in minny

bad penalty game over close it out on home ice saturday

  14. Dylan

Dallas didn’t mean to…win. It wasn’t like it was…intentional. They just…fell forward. And decided to brace their fall with their sticks. It’s unfortunate. Maybe they’ll do it different…next time.

  15. Rashaad

When I hear comments from Rob S. and hdbiker I sometimes think that this fan base doesn’t deserve the success it has had. Hdbiker saying that this amazing team played like a sorry ass bunch. I’m sorry, but I gotta say this. What a couple of assholes you are!

You do realize the Dallas Stars are not just a professional team, but one of the great teams in the NHL. They want to win too. I thought Vegas play just fine yesterday, actually better than fine. They were quite good especially in the third period against an elite opponent that was fighting for their lives.

Anyways, I’m sure the fans of this team are not representative of Rob S and hdbiker.

I’m gonna help you out, rob s, on your difficulty understanding why Brayden McNabb plays on this team. He plays on this elite team, because he is an excellent player, and better than Hutton, Miromanov and Pachal. Also, shithead, if mistakes are made, every game would end 0-0 and go into several overtimes. Pistol Pete, who is actually one of the good friends, and knows what he is actually looking at when he watches, astutely pointed out that Brayden McNabb made an exceptional pass to Marchessault on his goal.

Rob S., the reason why nobody was actually answering you when you kept going on about McNabb in several posts is because you are clueless.

Tomorrow will be a new game and Vegas will send out their best lineup, which is the same one they’ve had for a few games. Mistakes will happen but Kessel, Amadio, Dorofeyev, Pachal, Miromanov and Hutton or not going to play, unless there is serious, under performance or an injury. When fully healthy, they are not part of the lineup.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!!! They were on an 11-3 run before last night and people are calling this a story asking and complaining.

Some of you make me physically sick.

    • TS

      Rashaad, YOU TELL ‘EM!!!

    • Rashaad – If some of us make you physically sick stating the facts then I would suggest stop posting or reading what others post. They were outplayed plain and simple. To lose when giving your best effort is one thing – to lose not doing so is unacceptable.

      • Frank

In stretches of the game – especially the second period, yes we were outplayed. Again, we had arguably our worst game of the series and they had their best. Still needed PP goals and overtime to beat us. Come out, play our style in game 5 and we win! At this point I am not concerned. Odds are in our favor that we will win this series.

    • Walt

      All good until the blasphemy.

  16. TS

So, one letdown game. Bound to happen. It doesn’t DEFINE this team, guys! We’ve got 3 in the basket, just need ONE more! Yes, last night was low energy, lower desire, little motivation it seemed. We got our Mulligan this series, NOW WE FINISH IT OFF!!!!
BTW: every player has a BAD game…Mcnabb has HIS. HE’S HUMAN. Forgive him and know he WON’T have ANOTHER!!

  17. Ok, this is for all the conspiracy theorists out there; the fix was in from the get go, from the start of the coverage from the analysts the talk was game 5 on ABC Sat nite prime time. As the game went on into the 3rd period, more and more talk of game 5 Sat nite prime time on ABC. I watched the Canes Panthers game Wed nite and I don’t remember any such talk of a game 5, just throwing it out there!! Go Knights go!

Arnold , whatever you say, THG. I confess: I’M the Hand of Justice. I post pages and pages of extracurricular Bullshit, and then pass judgements on every poster i disagree with. . I see.
