Cassidy Reveals First Look At Remade Forward Lines

All eyes were on the forward groups as each of the three “teams” took the ice on the first day of Training Camp. Around 9:00 am when the first team kicked off the day, Jack Eichel was matched with Ivan Barbashev and Victor Olofsson. A few hours later, William Karlsson skated next to Mark Stone and Pavel Dorofeyev. Then, in the final session, Tomas Hertl was flanked by Alex Holtz and Nic Roy, while Brett Howden centered the final line with Keegan Kolesar and Tanner Pearson.

After months of contemplation, and admittedly “a lot” of playing around with line combinations over the summer, Bruce Cassidy revealed his first choice solution to what will likely be a season-long puzzle.

Barbashev-Eichel-Olofsson
Dorofeyev-Karlsson-Stone
Holtz-Hertl-Roy
Pearson-Howden-Kolesar

He explained the thought process allowed him to arrive at this mix.

Jack and Barbashev have played well together, so ok who is the piece that might be best suited for them. Olofsson, he’s played with Jack, so let’s see how that looks. Karlsson has played with Dorofeyev, so now we’re looking at Stone over there because he lost his centerman that he’s played with a lot. Tomas, we don’t know. Where does Holtz play, right or left, he’s played both. And then Pearson’s in, we gotta take a look and see. He hasn’t played a lot of hockey the last little bit, so we’re not sure if he’s a complementary guy. -Bruce Cassidy

Cassidy tries to simplify the process to get the ball rolling.

I’ve always said I like to work in pairs, find pairs that complement one another and they’re really good together, and then find complementary pieces at the end of the day. -Cassidy

This year’s group was particularly tricky because it wasn’t just key pieces missing from the last two seasons’ teams, they were spread out across the lineup.

We almost lost a piece on each line, so are we just going to put a guy in on each line or are we going to move pieces around? I think it will be both. -Cassidy

While this is the combination that may make the most sense to start the season for Cassidy, he’s well aware experimentation will be necessary to ultimately find the perfect mix.

That’s what you’re thinking in your mind. But listen, the lines come together and sometimes it just fits and sometimes it doesn’t, you know? There will just be more (moving pieces around) this year probably than last year. I think that’s okay. I’ve always been a coach that if you remember the first year I moved a lot of pieces around and eventually they kind of find their way. More importantly, the team has to find their way and to their identity no matter where the pieces are and hopefully you get it right as you go along. -Cassidy

The Golden Knights head to San Jose on Sunday for the first preseason game of the year. By rule, Vegas has to send at least eight veterans to participate in that game. So, maybe it’ll be the first look at one of the lines in action. Or, maybe the tinkering begins.

Extended Thoughts On First Choice Lineup

Can’t wait to see these lines/pairings in actual action. A few quick thoughts:

    – I think Stone/Karlsson creates a good shut down line, and allows Doro to score without a larger defensive burden.

    – Hopefully Butch gives Roy a long look as a top 9 winger. His offensive skill set is worthy of helping him drive toward being a 20 goal scorer. Hopefully he and Hertl can form some Chemistry.

    – Liking the projected D lines, assuming health. Need a rebound year from both Hager and Whitey……if not let’s try Korczak!

    • Emmanuel

Flip Roy & Doro and THEN you got your shut down line (with scoring) & a 3 rd line with 3 potential 20G skaters.

  2. Jose

    Barbashev-Eichel-Olofsson
    Dorofeyev-Karlsson-Stone
    Roy-Hertl-Holtz
    Pearson-Howden-Kolesar

I love these lines but I would have a short leash on Olofsson who was just terrible last year. I hope he seizes the opportunity to play with an elite set up guy like Eichel. If not, I like the 22 year old Alexander Holtz to get a good look with Eichel. Like Olofsson and Machessault, Holtz is a pure shooter and has huge upside. Check out his goals in this video. Very quick release. Looks like Marchy but 11 years younger.

Pavel, Stoney and Wild Bill together could be a dangerous and lethal recipe, as the captain is so adept at poking pucks loose, and Karlsson’s two-way prowess allows for their to be less risk for him or Dorofeyev to commit to being quick on the draw to get open and available to pick it up on a breakaway.

Also love moving Royzee up. He gets gritty in the crease and makes things happen. Of course, he’ll do that no matter what line he’s in, but he’s more than earned the chance.

Hopefully some chemistry can happen between old friends in the top line, but if not, there’s plenty to play with. Also, a lot to mess with in the PP (& PK). Hopefully we can shore that up before too long. I’d like to hear Bruce address his insights on the PP.

    • TS

Drublu, agreed on Roy– move him up in.lines– he HAS earned it! He deserves it more than our NEWBEES!

  4. Emmanuel

He finally had the “Come to Cassidy” moment and knocked off the “we roll 4 lines” BS! Forwards to the Cup!

I predict a hot start until the peanut brittles get hurt.

    • ThG

I predict the opposite, there is no reason to say this team will click right off the bat, with lines that have not ever played together.

Would rather have them rolling at end of season, than fading like they did last year.

    • TS

      Peanut brittles–too funny!!

  5. NAM

I still say Karlsson is the most important line to get built up. Eichel will carry people and make them better, plus some history with Olofsson. I think Stone is the right fit for Karlsson line and not with Hertl. I don’t know what to make of the 3rd line. Roy is a solid player, but never done great as a winger on this team. Maybe it is time for him to make that work. However Roy is a much better center than Howden so it sucks to lose depth there. We’ll see how it all shakes out in a month or so.

  6. JB

I like the fact that 3 of the 4 lines have two players on them that won our cup. And the other has Roy and Hertl. Not bad to start with I think!

I’d like to see how the following lineup would play out.

    Holtz-Eichel-Stone
    Barbashev-Hertl-Dorofeyev/Brisson
    Roy/Howden-Karly-Olofsson/Brisson
    Pearson-Howden/Roy-Kolesar

Don’t have the most confidence in Olofsson tbh besides being a powerplay guy. I think Holtz has the highest ceiling from the new guys and think being with Stone and Eichel would allow him to unlock his offensive potential.

I think having Dorofeyev’s sniping ability paired with two guys who can do the dirty work near the net will be tough and I like Karly with Roy as a Karly is a shoot first center with Roy being a more of a distributor. I like Howden as an energy guy but besides the Cup run with Stone & Stephenson, hasn’t shown that he should be in the Top 6.

I would think there will be a number of combinations tried before it gets sorted out!

      • ThG

first there was Ted Healy and Moe Howard (born Moses Horwitz) paired together.

Then they were joined by Moe’s Brother, Shemp Howard (born Samuel Horwitz).
Then those three were joined by Larry Fine (born Louis Feinberg) ). Those
        four played together.

The four appeared in one feature film, Soup to Nuts, before Shemp left to pursue a solo career. Shemp had a serious acting “career”. **
**After a disagreement with Healy in August 1930, Moe, Larry and Shemp left to launch their own act, “Howard, Fine & Howard”, and joined the RKO vaudeville circuit. They premiered at Los Angeles’s Paramount Theatre on August 28, 1930. In 1931 they added “Three Lost Soles” to the act’s name, and took on Jack Walsh as their straight man. Moe, Larry and Shemp continued until July 1932, when Ted Healy approached them to team up again for the Shuberts’ Broadway revue “Passing Show of 1932”, and they accepted the offer. In spite of their past differences, Moe knew an association with the nationally known Healy would provide opportunities the three comics were not getting on their own.

On August 16, 1932, in a contract dispute, Healy walked out of the Shuberts’ revue during rehearsals. Three days later, tired of what he considered Healy’s domineering handling of the Stooges’ career, Shemp left Healy’s act to remain with “Passing Show”, which closed in September during roadshow performances and after pan reviews in Detroit and Cincinnati. Shemp regrouped to form his own act and played on the road for a few months. He landed at Brooklyn’s Vitaphone Studios for movie appearance opportunities in May 1933. When he split from Healy, Shemp was immediately replaced by his and Moe’s younger brother Jerry Howard, known as Curly. Curly Howard (born Jerome Horwitz),

After leaving the Three Stooges, Shemp Howard, like many New York City-based performers, found work at Vitaphone. Originally playing bit roles in their six two-reel Roscoe Arbuckle comedies made from 1932 to 1933, showing off his comical appearance, he was given speaking roles and supporting parts almost immediately. He was featured with studio comics Jack Haley, Ben Blue and Gus Shy; then co-starred with Harry Gribbon, Daphne Pollard, and Johnnie Berkes, and finally starred in his own two-reel comedies.[citation needed] The independently produced Convention Girl (1935) featured Shemp in a very rare straight role as a blackmailer and would-be murderer.[citation needed]

Shemp preferred to improvise dialogue and jokes, which became his trademark. In late 1935, Vitaphone was licensed to produce two-reel short comedies based on the Joe Palooka comic strip. Shemp was cast as Knobby Walsh, and although only a supporting character, he became the comic focus of the series, with Johnnie Berkes and Lee Weber as his foils. He co-starred in the first seven shorts, released in 1936–1937. Nine of them were produced, the last two done after Shemp’s departure from Vitaphone.[citation needed]

Howard unsuccessfully attempted to lead his own group of “stooges” in the Van Beuren musical comedy short The Knife of the Party. In 1937 he followed his brothers’ lead, moved to the West Coast, and landed supporting actor roles at several studios, mainly Columbia Pictures and Universal. He worked exclusively at Universal from August 1940 to August 1943, performing with such comics as W. C. Fields, and with comedy duos Abbott and Costello and Olsen and Johnson. He lent comic relief to Charlie Chan and The Thin Man murder mysteries. He appeared in several Universal B-musicals of the early 1940s, including Private Buckaroo (1942), Strictly in the Groove (1942), How’s About It? (1943), Moonlight and Cactus (1944) and San Antonio Rose (1941); in the latter of which he was paired with Lon Chaney Jr. as a faux Abbott and Costello. Most of these projects took advantage of his improvisational skills. When Broadway comedian Frank Fay walked out on a series of feature films teaming him with Billy Gilbert, Gilbert called on his closest friend, Shemp Howard, to replace him in three B-comedy features for Monogram Pictures, filmed in 1944–45. He also played a few serious parts, such as his supporting role in Pittsburgh (1942), starring Marlene Dietrich and John Wayne.

From 1938 to 1940 and again from 1944 to 1946, Howard appeared in Columbia’s two-reel comedies, co-starring with Columbia regulars Andy Clyde, The Glove Slingers, El Brendel, and Tom Kennedy. He was given his own starring series in 1944. He was working for Columbia in this capacity when his brother Curly was felled by a debilitating stroke on May 6, 1946. Curly had already suffered a series of strokes prior to the filming of If a Body Meets a Body (1945), and in January 1945 Shemp filled in for Curly at a week-long appearance at the St. Charles Theatre in New Orleans.[citation needed]

Shemp agreed to fill in for Curly in Columbia’s popular Stooge shorts, knowing that if he refused, Moe and Larry would be out of work. [citation needed]He intended to stay only until Curly recovered, which never happened as Curly’s health continued to worsen. Curly died on January 18, 1952, at the age of 48. Shemp agreed to remain with the group permanently.

Shemp’s role as the third Stooge was much different from Curly’s. His characterization was more relaxed as opposed to Curly’s energetic persona. Unlike Curly, who had many distinct mannerisms, Shemp’s most notable characteristic as a Stooge was a high-pitched “bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-bee!” sound, a sort of soft screech done by inhaling. It was a multipurpose effect: he emitted this sound when scared, sleeping (done as a form of snoring), overtly happy, or dazed. It became his trademark sound as the “nyuk nyuk” sound had become Curly’s. Because of his established solo career, he was also given opportunities in the films to do some of his own comic routines.[citation needed]

During this period, The Three Stooges ventured into live television appearances, beginning on Tuesday, October 19, 1948, with Milton Berle on his Texaco Star Theatre program.

Shemp appeared with Moe and Larry in 77 short subjects, four of which were produced posthumously using stock footage. The trio also made the feature film Gold Raiders (1951). Shemp suffered a mild stroke in November 1952, but recovered within weeks. The medical episode had no noticeable effect on his remaining films with the Stooges, many of which were remakes of earlier films that also used recycled footage to reduce costs.

Curly suffered a debilitating stroke in May 1946. Shemp returned, reconstituting the original lineup, until his death of a heart attack on November 22, 1955, three years and ten months after Curly’s death of a cerebral hemorrhage. Film actor Joe Palma stood in (shot from behind to obscure his face) to complete four Shemp-era shorts under contract. The procedure of disguising one actor as another outside of stunt shots became known as the “fake Shemp”. Columbia contract player Joe Besser joined as the third Stooge for two years (1956–1957), departing in 1958 to nurse his ill wife after Columbia terminated its shorts division. The studio then released all the shorts via Screen Gems, Columbia’s television studio and distribution unit. Screen Gems then syndicated the shorts to television, whereupon the Stooges became one of the most popular comedy acts of the early 1960s.

Comic actor Joe DeRita became “Curly Joe” in 1958, replacing Besser for a new series of full-length theatrical films. With intense television exposure in the United States, the act regained momentum throughout the 1960s as popular kids’ fare, until Larry’s paralyzing stroke in the midst of filming a pilot for a Three Stooges TV series in January 1970. He died in January 1975 after a further series of strokes. Unsuccessful attempts were made in 1970 and 1975 to revive the act with longtime supporting actor Emil Sitka in Fine’s role, but they were each cut short—the first by a movie deal falling through and Moe’s wife persuading him to retire, the second by Moe’s death.

        So in summary:
        Ted Healy and Moe Howard
Ted Healy , Moe Howard, and Shemp Howard
Ted Healy, Moe Howard, Shemp Howard, and Larry Fine (and in film
from Soup to Nuts comedian Fred Sanborn joined them, not to be
confused with Fred G. Sanford and altogether different character played
by Fred Foxx decades later in TV showed called Sanford and Son)
(note on Film from Soup to Nuts-The film was not a critical success, but the Stooges’ performances were singled out as memorable, leading Fox to offer the trio a contract, minus Healy.[4] This enraged Healy, who told studio executives the Stooges were his employees, whereupon the offer was withdrawn. Howard, Fine, and Howard learned of the offer and subsequent withdrawal, and left Healy to form their own act (billed as “Howard, Fine & Howard” or “Three Lost Souls”).[5] The act quickly took off with a tour of the theater circuit.[4] Healy attempted to stop the new act with legal action, claiming that they were using his copyrighted material. Accounts exist of Healy threatening to bomb theaters if Howard, Fine, and Howard ever performed there, which worried Shemp so much that he almost left the act; reportedly, only a pay raise kept him on board)
        Shemp left
so Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard was formed.
(***With the onset of World War II, the Stooges released several entries that poked fun at the rising Axis powers. You Nazty Spy! (1940) and its sequel I’ll Never Heil Again (1941) lampooned Hitler and the Nazis at a time when America was still neutral. Moe was cast as “Moe Hailstone”, an Adolf Hitler-like character, with Curly playing a Hermann Göring character, replete with medals, and Larry a Joseph Goebbels-type propaganda minister. Moe, Larry, and director Jules White considered You Nazty Spy! their best film.[10] Yet, these efforts indulged in a deliberately formless, non-sequitur style of verbal humor that was not the Stooges’ forte, according to Okuda and Watz.)
        Curly had a stroke.
        So they returned
        to Moe, Larry, and Shemp
        Shemp died in 1955
So it was Moe, Larry, and Joe Besser (as Curly type character however,Besser had observed how one side of Larry Fine’s face appeared “calloused”,[23] so he had a clause in his contract specifically prohibiting him from being hit beyond an infrequent tap, though this restriction was later lifted. “I usually played the kind of character who would hit others back,” Besser recalled.
After Besser left, Curly Joe Rita replaced him
        forming
Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe Rita

While together as Moe, Larry, and Curly; Moe managed the three money and would pay out small sums of money to Larry and Curly so they could just get by, and saved the rest for their retirement. He did this because Curly was wild and loose with the women and booze, while Larry liked to spend his free time at the races, losing more often than winning. Larry was grateful for this in his later years.

Shemp Howard is interred in a crypt in the Indoor Mausoleum at the Home of Peace Cemetery in East Los Angeles. His younger brother Curly is also interred there, in an outdoor tomb in the Western Jewish Institute section, as well as his parents Solomon and Jennie Horwitz and older brother Benjamin “Jack”. People often leave trinkets and pennies on Curley outdoor tomb.

Those are all the line combinations of the Three Stooges.

God Bless you all for getting this far.

  9. Donald J Trump

President Biden convened his Cabinet on Friday for the first time in nearly a year – this time with First Lady Jill Biden joining him for the meeting.

It was the first time the Cabinet has met since Oct. 2, 2023. Jill Biden spoke about a White House initiative on women’s health research before the president fielded a question about the escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

“We’re continuing to try to do who we’ve tried from the beginning. To make sure that both the people in northern Israel, as well as southern Lebanon, are able to go back to their homes and go back safely,” Biden said. “And the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, our whole team is working with the intelligence community to try to get that done. We’re going to keep at it till we get it done. But, we’ve got a way to go.”

I think we true AMericans need to ask for a refund, because these putz’s have not been doing their jobs, and train wreck after train wreck after train wreck backs up this claim.

Fos News is a biased right wing, Trump loving news organization, this is surprising breaking news. Now you all know why Heels-Up quickly wanted a re match, and Trump said bull shit, because he really lost.

The media may be singing Kamala Harris’s praises, but if you actually take a look at what voters are saying, it’s clear her performance during the debate was outstanding.

Sure, Fox News might say she “performed better,” but the real takeaway? Trump scored lower in the areas that truly matter: the economy, immigration, and leadership. In fact, after the debate, Trump lost 20 points over Harris on the economy alone—a glaring sign that voters do not trust him more to fix what’s broken.

Thee gap between media spin and voter sentiment does not exist. Out of 10 undecided voters, six swung toward Harris after the debate. They found Trump vague, particularly on key issues like the economy and the cost of living, which are front and center for Americans right now.

People remember when their wallets were worse off under Trump, and Harris gave them plenty of reasons to believe she’d change the course set by Biden. In fact, four of those six voters outright said they can see how Harris would be better then Trump, whom they largely blame for inflation and the high cost of living.

BREAKING: Harris wins the undecided vote post-debate with 60%, according to the 10 Fox News Analaysts interviewed.

    Harris – 60%
    Trump – 30%
    Unsure – 10%

    — Leading Report (@LeadingReport) September 11, 2024

In short, Trump didn’t deliver. Instead of laying out his own vision, he chose to attack Harris and dodge the tough questions. This tactic didn’t go unnoticed. As Mark Kadish, a voter from Florida, bluntly put it: “I still don’t know what he is for.”

And that’s the crux of the issue. Trump had one job—convince voters he has a better plan. But by spending more time throwing punches at Harris than detailing policies, he left voters, like Robert Wheeler from Nevada, wondering if there’s any substance behind the soundbites. He went into the debate leaning toward Trump; now, he’s on Team Harris. Why? Because he didn’t hear anything from Trump about how he’s going to fix the economy or make life better for regular Americans.

REPORT: As the media rushes to crown Kamala Harris the Debate winner, a different story is unfolding among undecided voters.

Reuters spoke with 10 voters who hadn’t made up their minds—and 6 of them are now voting or leaning toward Trump.

One voter bluntly said, “I still don’t… pic.twitter.com/nzqtoTzovK

    — The Vigilant Fox (@VigilantFox) September 11, 2024

So, while the media may be ready to declare her the winner, the voters seem to have other ideas. And in the end, that’s what will really count.

America needs a strong leader. Harris runs on “joy”, how much joy did she bring with all illegals killing and committing crimes? Wars started on her watch. She doesn’t want joy, Her record is one of misery, disgust, and defeat. Going in opposite direction.

Harris’s main accomplishment is doing willie brown, and making up sentences called word salads. Harris is least competent DEM nominee since the Civil War times. Only way DEMS win if they cheat massively again, like they did in 2020.

GREAT overall view!! As more time passes, and voters hear and see more, they are moving into Kamala’s camp.Yrump.is running on his past grievances, Harris is looking past all the chaos and to the future. Voters are worn-out from 10 years of chaos, controversy and provocative rhetoric, and they are ready for new ideas, new solutions, new ATTITUDE.

Biker, my own question is: do we want A Democracy for EVERY American , or 4 more years of Dictator Trump as he tramples our constitution, our rules of Law, our Federal apparatus, incl.
The FBI, DOJ, and all his plans in Project 25. Trump means exactly what he theatens and rages about. He wants his revenge and retribution, but the majority of Voters don’t want what he’s selling anymore. It is unreal that a lifetime faud, criminal, sexual predator could occupy the WH not just in 2020, but, knowing what we all know about Trump, voters STILL support him now. Reminds me of the Nigerian cons who catfish gullible Americans for their money— these cons are outright STEALING from people, and most victims know they are being ripped off..yet they keep on giving their money to these cons! That is the Trump Grift, folks. At his recent .Vegas rally, he actually told the audience that ” i don’t care about YOU, i j ust want your VOTE!”. This man openly admits he’s USING people to get elected, that he couldn’t care less about ANY of them! He is telling us all how he REALLY feels, yet the Repub Party has laid down and let him destroy their Party and all it has stood for for years. His desire to allign himself with our enemies should be a HUGE RED FLAG to all of us. His hatred for the “OTHERS”, may not be an issue for Repubs, but it sure as hell worries ME. I am NOT one of his ” Chosen Ones”. I am one of the ” Others” —Like women everywhere. Like teachers, election workers and state officials. Like LEGAL immigrants. Like former Repubs who have left that party BECAUSE of Trump.
As so mamy Americans now say: ” We are NOT going back!”

In the debate, he NEVER answered a single question asked of him— instead, he used his time to attack Kamala for HER responses to HER questions! Over and over. He had NO answers of his own.

I think the reason Kamala looked so polisbed, so rehearsed in tge debate was because Trump did NOT rehearse his answers. He did NOT prep for the debate like all candidates for office do
. That debate was to be the introduction.of Kamala, and Trump showing his Chops against a woman, a woman of color, a ” liberal” from.the hated state of CALI. Instead, he aired his tired grievances, and he stood there, refusing to even LOOK at Kamala as she repeatedly blasted his policies, his criminality, his lack of responsibility for what occurred Jan 6. He had NO answers for ANY of it. Hust stood there, staring forward, eyes darting, worry on his face bevsuse he KNEW be was getting taken to the woodshed!

The UTAH sweaters are incredible. Lettering reminds me of the beautiful Rangers sweaters.

They have amazing NHL prospects, and they have what is likely a strong D core.

BTW Utah was the better coached team in El Segundo first game. LAK players were better skilled, VGK goalies won this, and power play. Fleming is a goon. Stirring up trouble and fighting a LAK goon two feet taller then him. Demek (spelling) got hurt early. The two centers for VGK played well no. 25 and no 77. One of the VGK d men was repeatedly beat at the defensive blue line. I would be surprised if he plays in next game, unless they are short staffed.

The El Segundo facility is really nice. The crowd was polite and into the game.

Watch out for Utah as a potential Stanley Cup contender. I am as sure of this as I was when I said that Marchessault should have been a healthy scratch in the 2023 championship run.

    God bless

As a Bruins fan since 1962 — I have (for the first time ever) adopted a second favorite team when Sweeney & Neely mistreated Cassidy.

I’m looking forward to goalie Swayman joining Coach Cassidy in the coming weeks!!
